  11. I was lucky. The Princess knew there was to be a celebration, with singers and musicians and many wealthy traders. 'My cousin will also be there,' she told me. 'But no one must know. He is not trusted, especially by my father. But I need to speak to him.'

  13. We listened to the music, and I edged closer to the Princess and her cousin. It was not a love affair, as I suspected, but urgent business. I overheard the words 'army' and 'overthrow', but could not be certain whose army, or who was to be overthrown.
