Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator? |
- | A: No, I play on a Gamecube through a Gameboy Player using a Gameboy SP as a controller.
+ | A: No, I'm playing on a DS with a capture board from 3dscapture.com/ds
|
- | Q: So does this run have glitches in it?

- | Q: When do they show up/what are they?
+ | Q: Why do you choose Skitty?
- | A: After I beat Bugsy I do some regular cloning of Croconaw. This is to setup Bad cloning later (and also makes Rival 2 much easier). Once I get to the daycare I will attempt to make a bad clone. This is a frame perfect trick (and also very random whether that frame even exists) and is basically the entire run. Once I have a Bad Clone I will do a really long elaborate setup with it, that will allow me to first underflow my items in the Ball Pocket, and then Execute Arbitrary Code.
+ | A: Skitty is fucking great. Tail Whip is a great Link move, Double Slap is fucking OP for late game, an Attract/Sing makes bosses trivial with good play (I also might have to reset a bit to get Skitty from the questions, some times it's not possible)

- | Q: What is a Bad Clone?
+ | Q: Why is your partner Charmander?
- | A: A Bad Clone is what it sounds like, a clone that's bad. It's identifiable by having a long ass nickname that looks like this "???????????????????????????" is level 0 (and also the opposite gender) - if it isn't level 0 but has the name it probably means I hit the right frame but the game decided to be mean. If I only get one level 0 it almost certainly won't work, as it is the wrong type of Bad Clone, but if I get 2 level 0s, the second one (and any subsequent one) should work no problem
+ | A: I like Charmander. Most people use Squirtle as partner, I honestly don't know which is better. I routed Charmander, so here I am

- | Q: Are there any other difference in the run?
+ | Q: Where do you expect to make up time?
- | A: Minor ones, like not getting slaves, using up all my money, not getting Przcure, and probably having harder fights because my stats will prob be worse, but mostly it's pretty similar.
+ | A: Everywhere, and for 2 reasons. 1) My previous run was done on Red (the GBA game) which is slower, and also because I'm manipulating the dungeon maps
|
- | Q: Why do you choose Totodile?
+ | Q: How are you doing that?
- | A: Because the Totodile evolution family is the best for the speedrun, without it, my time would not be nearly as fast.
+ | A: By quicksaving in a dungeon and reloading, the maps become predictable in their nature. It matters from what floor you do the quicksave, so on some Dungeons you might see me do it more than once, to manipulate a better pattern. After that, the floors are generated at the same point, so you might see me doing some funky things like going backwards and forwards to manipulate enemies that you can't actually see
|
- | Q: Do you really need to use Totodile specifically, couldn't you use some other Pokemon?
+ | Q: So is there still RNG in this run?
- | A: Yes. Yes I do. Otherwise I will not challenge the World Record.
+ | A: Yeah, there is. The first floor of every dungeon can't be manipulated, which means your PP, Experience, and also obviously the first floor itself are still not consistent. And neither the missions that you have to do, or their rewards. Tiny Woods also isn't manipulated at all because it's slower on average to do so.
|
- | Q: What stats are good and what stats are bad?
+ | Q: But this run is a lot more execution heavy now?
- | A: I don't actually check my stats in this run, since it's a lot shorter they are a lot less relevant. Honestly I'll only reset if they are absolutely horrible and my encounter rate at the start is awful. I'll look at 6, 14 Attack is really good, special attack being 11 would be nice too (12s are fantastic), speed being 11 is a nice bonus, as is defence being 14.
+ | A: Yeah, very much so. In fact I'm going to have to do multiple runs of this game just to get myself to be better at the execution, because it's fast, and there's a lot of it. To memorise all the patterns at high speed will take some time. There's still a lot more routing that can be improved, I'm sure (at least backup strats for missions anyway), but I want to start doing some runs to see what does and doesn't work, and also just get used to the feel of doing runs.
|
- | Q: You didn't even get to his stats, why did you reset?
+ |
- | A: Totodile was a female, so it's attack DV was 0 or 1, aka the worst.
+ |
|
- | Q: Do time and date matter in this run?
+ |
- | A: Nah not at all. Default time is day, which means less Rattatas and Poliwags which can keep you from escaping, the only relevant thing based on time in this run, so just use default.
