Name |
Halite, The Berserker |
|
Appearance: |
(There is plenty of Gem fan art online, I'm sure you will find one to you liking.) |
|
Gender: |
Male |
|
Personality: |
Halite is constantly seething with rage. Nobody knows if he has some traumatic event in his past, if he's been hit hard by the betrayal of Homeworld, or if he's just belligerent. While option three IS definitely true, there's a much simpler explanation: Future Shock. His last contact with human and gem civilization was the first parts of the Gem War. Seeing cities where once stood untamed wilderness and blood-soaked battlefields is really disorienting for him. |
|
He's designed to be constantly angry. Other gems know that, and avoid him. Treat him like a weapon incapable of other emotions. And that makes him furious. It makes him miserable. It means his one joy in life is making people as angry and miserable as he is. |
|
Bio: |
Halite was born and bred as a warrior. Though a low-end gem, it's amazing what sheer belligerence can accomplish for a warrior. Many of the earthbound gems preach the value of love and friendship for the strength of a warrior, but Halite's incredible service record was powered by hatred and vitriol. From his birth, he was a powderkeg. As a warrior, he was always treated like crap, and made sure to repay it in kind. He was just as unpleasant, belligerent, and hateful as you'd expect of someone viewed as a meatshield and possible weapon. He ended up getting left behind and corrupted during the Gem War, spreading his gem's influence to a site that would be host to many bloody battles over the centuries. |
|
Then Steven went and healed him. Steven didn't freak out, didn't immediately start barking orders. He wanted to get to know Halite and actually asked him if he wanted to help fight. Halite shrugged and said "Yeah, sure." The rest is history. |
|
Association: |
Formerly Homeworld, switched over to the Crystal Gems after Steven actually bothered being nice to him for a change. |

|
Gem Unique Ability |
Rage. He's constantly angry, and knows exactly how to make others angry, often doing so by accident. |

Covered in scars from the lash, torture devices, and simple combat, he's a battle-hardened veteran of his homeworld's gem war. |
|
- | A bounty hunter come to Earth to kill as many Gems as possible. He doesn't know about Rose Quartz's rebellion against the tyrannical aims of the Gem Homeworld, and if he found out, he wouldn't care- he knows of Gems as an immortal race of sociopath warmongers that does not care for the sanctity of mortal life. Years of fighting for his species' freedom against such alien foes has taught him the true meaning of hatred- particularly of Gem-like organisms. And wouldn't you know, a lot of gems use bodies that look like humans. He knows what is best in life: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.

Fatal Flaw: He knows what is best in life: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women. In other words, he's a tribal warrior who can never go home- and he's fine with that. |
Saving Grace: Has the support of all sentient non-gem aliens in his pursuit- the eradication of all Gems. In fact, he's a bounty hunter who's come to Earth to kill as many Gems as possible. |
- | That was centuries ago. Gurlack's spent much of the journey at FTL speeds or in cryosleep, making him much younger than he should be. His friends and family are long dead, but he is known as a hero on his homeworld nonetheless- Gurlack the Gemslayer. He set out for Earth a few decades ago after hearing of a large-scale gem conflict taking place there.

Bio: |
A reptilian alien from a world where everything is trying to kill you. The biomes are "ocean constantly suffering from hurricanes," "deserts with arsenic sand," "rainforests with amphibians so toxic they blight any plant they touch," and "somewhat more habitable parts of the rainforest." Gurlack's race were a primitive hunter-gatherer culture when the gems invaded. The fight was brief and bloody. The governor was placed and began the effort of turning the planet into a Kindergarden. However, the Gems didn't count on the local sentients being just as dangerous as everything else on the planet. The savage race of lizards used their mucus to destroy key parts of the occupying Gem infrastructure, eventually leaving the governor blind as the armies advanced through the toxic deserts to attack. That was Gurlack's first major kill. However, the Gem fleet had moved on, leaving the lizardmen with a whole lot of technology they didn't understand. Under most circumstances, this meant they would fall to infighting and use the superior technology to inadvertently destroy themselves. The thing is, they had a common enemy: the Gems. Warriors were loaded into Gem ships and sent to take revenge. Gurlack was one such warrior. |
- | His homeworld and his people. No more, no less.

That was millenia ago. Gurlack's spent much of the journey at FTL speeds or in cryosleep, making him much younger than he should be. His friends and family are long dead, but he is known as a hero on his homeworld nonetheless- Gurlack the Gemslayer is hailed as a Warrior God, and his descendants make up a large portion of the species' population. Years of fighting for freedom from such alien foes has taught him the true meaning of hatred- particularly of Gem-like organisms. And wouldn't you know, a lot of gems use bodies that look like humans. |

A spear and shield taken from the late Gem who was in charge of subjugating his homeworld. Has a number of broken gem weapons in his trophy room, but he's not trained with them. |
- | Unique Ability
+ |
- | Can spit a volatile mucus that explodes after prolonged contact with oxygen. Used on his homeworld for hunting. He's also trained to fight Gems specifically- always go for the crystal, get them angry, always keep them off center, mess with the synchronization of Fusions at the first opportunity. He's studied enough gem tech to get it to work for him.

Can spit a volatile mucus that explodes after prolonged contact with oxygen. Used on his homeworld for hunting. He's also trained to fight Gems specifically, developing an entire fighting style for killing gems- always go for the crystal, get them angry, always keep them off center, mess with the synchronization of Fusions at the first opportunity. He's studied enough gem tech to get it to work for him. He's also obscenely strong, able to crush diamonds into powder with his bare hands. |

The others sat around the campfire in the forest clearing. Their societies were far more advanced. They didn't understand the point of this ritual. But the scarred one painting his face with clay did. The hunters sat in awe at the warrior. To the world he called home, he was a "Warrior God" who slew the Gems that once enslaved their world. And who were they to deny the divinity of a creature who had stood against the forces of the Gems for forty millennia? Who had liberated each of their planets centuries ago? Whose name struck terror into the hearts of the Gems and their collaborators? Yes, there was no denying it- Gurlack the Gemslayer, for all intents and purposes, WAS a god of war. If this wardance was good enough for him, it was good enough for any of them. |
|
Gurlack, however, knew a different tale. The tale of a warrior who boarded a strange vessel long ago, not knowing he would be leaving everything he ever loved behind. Of a young woman now aged to dust and of a line of progeny that made him the ancestor of many tribes, who became the ancestors of many people. Of his crusade for freedom for those the Gems oppressed, and death to their collaborators. For they were a race of demons, who sucked the life from worlds, who crushed peaceful hunters and advanced societies with equal indifference in their pursuit of domination. To stop fighting... he might as well lay down and starve. Taking the last of his paint, he drew the stripes under his eyes. The pattern was an old mask that Gems had come to fear, like a child seeing monsters in the night. But Gurlack was quite real, and as he began to move, jumping about and shaking his spear overhead, he sang of ancient wars and soldiers, of battles long-fought and hard-won. This was their warmup. Hearts pounded in chests as they ran through the forest, toward a Gem base. |
