Pokémon Sword Any% w/ DLC F.A.Q.
1+
Chrono Cross Good Ending Speedrun F.A.Q.
2

3
Q: What are you trying to do?
4-
A: I am trying to complete Pokémon Sword as fast as possible using any content available in the game or the DLCs
4+
A: I am trying to complete Chrono Cross as fast as possible
5

6
Q: What is your best time?
7-
A: My best time is 4:03:18
7+
A: My best time is 7:23:45
8

9
Q: What is the World Record?
10-
A: The World Record time is 4:01:11 by Wh0misDS
10+
A: The World Record time is 6:36:57 by ConnorCordell
11

12-
Q: That's not you!
12+
13-
A: I know :(
13+
A: I've only completed one run, so I can save time pretty much everywhere. The sections that I lost the most time on are: Lynx 1, Ghost Ship, Fire Dragon 1, Three Devas, Garai, Dario, El Nido Triangle, and Terra Tower
14
15
Q: Why is the category called Good Ending?
16-
A: A lot of time can be saved in the DLC section, and then small timesaves everywhere else
16+
A: There are a few different endings in Chrono Cross, and the ones that are available outside of New Game+ depend on how you play the final fight. You can either brute force kill the boss (Bad Ending), or perform certain requirements in fight to use the Chrono Cross element (Good Ending). Bad Ending is traditionally used in Japanese, but Good Ending is the main English category
17
18-
Q: What separates this category from just Any%? Do you have to beat the DLC too?
18+
Q: Do stats and grinding levels matter?
19-
A: No, we just have to beat the game, but we're allowed to go to the DLC areas if we want; normal Any% does not allow for accessing the DLCs at all
19+
A: Yes to stats, no to grinding. Rather than a traditional leveling system that a lot of RPGs have, Chrono Cross gives you "star levels" whenever you beat a boss. These levels apply to the whole cast of Characters, and count as a "level". You don't gain star levels from normal fights, so it makes (almost) all optional encounters useless
20
21-
Q: What Pokémon do you use in the run?
21+
After every fight, you gain some stat points typically. After a normal encounter, it's usually just HP that you gain, and for star level fights, there's a chance for some of your other stats to grow. What stats grow, and how much, is determined by the Character using a weighted-random system. This means that physical Characters, like Serge, will gain more Strength than magic... typically. It's still random, and you can still get bad stat ups, which makes some fights very challenging
22-
A: I start with Sobble, which I use until we can access the Crown Tundra. Once we go to Crown Tundra, we search for a new main in the Dynamax Adventures and then use that until the end of the game. Sometimes, we switch to Eternatus for the final fight, but it's not required
22+
23
Q: What stats are the most important?
24-
Q: ...what?
24+
A: Serge/Lynx's Strength is by far the most important stat, and you'll hear me reference it a lot. In addition, Glenn's Strength is pretty important, as are Leena and Marcy's Magic
25-
A: So the way that this run looks is basically this:
25+
26-
	- Blitz through the early game
26+
Q: What Characters are used in the run?
27-
	- After getting the Corviknight Taxi, go back to Wedgehurst and access the Crown Tundra
27+
A: The game has 40+ Characters, however we only use a handful of them. Sometimes, the Characters we use influence our choices in the run as well:
28-
	- Die to Peony at the entrance, because it's allowed (and also he's 60 levels higher than you are)
28+
- Serge/Lynx: Main character so we have to use him. He's the main damage dealer throughout the run
29-
	- Head to the Max Lair and start a Dynamax Adventure
29+
- Kid: We have to use her through a small section of the game
30-
		- There are over 200 Pokémon available in the Dynamax Adventures, and which ones appear are random. This means most runs are going to be different than the last. To see a list of all available Pokémon, look here: https://serebii.net/swordshield/dynamaxadventurespokemon.shtml
30+
- Poshul: Not a required Character, but for the very short (1 fight) section we use them, they're the next best damage dealer after Serge
31-
	- With your new Level 65+ main, wreck the game
31+
- Pierre: Mostly used because his path into Viper Manor is the fastest. Absolutely useless Character
32
- Glenn: Big physical damage dealer for the end game, but can be very useful earlier on as well. Only obtainable if you choose not the Save Kid
33-
Q: Do you have every Pokémon routed?
33+
- Leena: Decent Magic stat, which is nice for Mt. Pyre and Fort Dragonia, but the main utility here is her Blue Innate, allowing us to use *FrogPrince
34-
A: Nope! Pretty much all of my runs will be figured out on the fly. I have resources to help me route as I'm playing, but for the most part nothing will be planned
34+
- Sprigg: Kind of gimmicky, but her Dopplegang tech allows us to gain access to WightKnight: a very powerful physical attacker
35
- Harle: Decent Magic user. Mainly used because of the lack of Characters we have access to at the start of the Lynx section
36-
Q: What are the best Pokémon to get?
36+
- Karsh: Madatory for the fight on Isle of the Damned against Solt & Peppor
37-
A: I don't have a ton of experience with the category, so aside from a couple of well known S/A tier Pokémon (Krookodile, Starmie, Mr. Mime, Galvantula, Raichu-Alola, etc), I don't have a great handle on it. In general though, we're looking for the following stuff in a main Pokémon:
37+
- Riddel: Mandatory for the fight against Dario
38-
	- An ability that doesn't hinder the Pokémon speedwise (e.g. Intimidate or Pressure)
38+
- Marcy: Okay Magic user that is Blue Innate so she can use *FrogPrince
39-
		- These abilities are slow as they proc every battle
39+
- Fargo: Decently powerful Character that is Blue Innate so he can use Vigora
40-
	- A spread move (e.g. Surf, Dazzling Gleam, Earthquake)
40+
- Starky: Doesn't actually ever attack, but is used for one fight since they're required to get to Terra Tower
41-
		- There are a number of double fights, especially late in the game, so having a move that hits both opponents is huge
41+
42-
	- Good coverage and STAB moves
42+
Q: What are the hard fights?
43-
		- A lot of the run you can just spam your best move over and over, but there are a few places late game that require tighter move choices, so having a nice variety is nice
43+
A: I'm not exactly the most equipped to answer this yet as I don't have a ton of experience with the game, but this is my initial take on the question (in order of appearance):
44
- Lynx 1: Not terribly difficult, but Lynx has a tendency to attack a LOT which can be dangerous depending on who he attacks
45-
Q: Can you do this run on Shield!?
45+
- Fire Dragon 1: Awkward fight usually, and while you can run away from this (and every fight) to heal, he doesn't let you menu so you have to run away multiple times if someone died
46-
A: You can! I did it once and got a 4:11:00 with Alolan Sandslash. That's the World Record over there
46+
- Three Devas: Not an awful fight, but it can go downhill fast if you don't KO one of them quickly
47
- Taurusoid: Very important to follow the script to get the *FrogPrince off without interruption
48-
Q: What Pokémon is used in the WR and your PB?
48+
- Garai: Low AP means this fight can be tough if you start missing your attacks
49-
A: Raichu-Alola is used in the WR and Swampert is used in my PB. Here's my personal leaderboard (all runs on Sword unless otherwise noted); it shouldn't be used as a list of which Pokémon are better than others, as there are factors outside of just the Pokémon used to consider:
49+
- Miguel: One of the hardest fights in the game from a casual standpoint. The speedrun uses a cool strategy, but it's always dangerous
50-
	*. Dragonite - 4:03:00
50+
- Dario: Optional fight, but the reward is so good that we do the whole sidequest to get it. This fight is gimmick-able with how his AI works, but again if something goes wrong it can be very dangerous
51-
	1. Tyrantrum - 4:03:18
51+
- Fire Dragon 2: One of the only ways you can truly gameover (without playing risky) is through AOE attacks. Fire Dragon 2 has one that HURTS
52-
	2. Swampert - 4:05:33
52+
- Fate: Not too hard, but has a very important opening that you need to get off
53-
	3. Wigglytuff - 4:06:25
53+
- Dragon God: The "final" boss has 8 phases, and if everything goes right, you won't get attacked after the first one. It's very important that your stats are good to make it through this as well
54-
	4. Dugtrio - 4:09:15
54+
55-
	5. Hitmonlee - 4:09:18
55+
56-
	6. Basculin-Red - 4:10:18
56+
A: Sub 7 for now. I don't know how much I'll like grinding the game, but I think 7 hours is a good milestone to strive for!
