Pokemon Stadium 2 Challenge Cups FAQ:
2
3
Q: So what's your goal?
4-
A: Just doing a run of all the Challenge Cups. This isn't an official category or anything, just doing this for fun. I wanted to run something but haven't had any time to route, so this is the perfect run thing to just jump in and do since...you can't really route, since it's all random!

A: I'm really just trying to refamiliarise myself with Challenge Cup, to prepare for a full game run I'm planning on Nov 12th (will start on the 11th for a lot of timezones). Best way to get in form with Challenge Cup is to simply do runs.
5
My PB is actually quite solid, so any improvement is good. However I am playing on the Switch and my PB was N64, so there being less lag makes it far more likely I do PB.
6
Switch is roughly ~7% faster (pure estimate, it's about lag and the amount varies every run)
7-
A: So since individual cups are now tracked as ILs on the leaderboard ( https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnstadium2/individual_levels ) I'm making sure I do my absolute worst one first, to try and cheekily improve them. After that I'm just going in some weird circle, doing the Ultra/Pokes and Master/Greats together since they have the same pattern.

Q: What is this run?
9
A: Just doing a run of all the Challenge Cups. When I want to run something but don't have anything fully routed, this is the perfect run thing to just jump in and do since...you can't really route, since it's all random!
10
11
Q: What is with the order you're doing?
12
A: I'm starting with Ultra since it's the hardest to get a good team in. Then I'm doing all of Round 1 before Round 2 and then doing Round 2 in order because I've only just unlocked it so I have no other choice atm.
13
14
Q: Is that Pokemon Shiny?
15-
A: Uhh, I guess there isn't one. My splits are just pulled from the times I got in my complete game PB.

17
It is actually possible that a Shiny Pokemon will show up in Challenge Cup, as everything there is randomised. However, it will actually sparkle, like seen in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKx37qF79TA
18-
A: I don't really have one? I guess try to get sub 5 hours?

19
Q: What is with the capitalisation in the names?
20
A: As mentioned above, Pokemon having nicknames alters their colours. In Challenge Cup, they did this just by having half of the name in lower and upper case (so you still know what Pokemon you are using, they keep the same spelling).
21
There are two exceptions to this, that I know of. Togetic is incorrectly spelt as 'Topetic', and Tangela for some reason gets full caps.

23
Q: What is the record?
24
A: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnstadiumext?h=Challenge_Cup_Stadium_2-All_Challenge_Cups&x=9d83yy62-rn10k2o8.4lxwnrj1 | See: Splits
25
26
Q: How does Challenge Cup work? Are all the Pokemon and moves random?
27
A: Yes and no, there is randomisation of moves and Pokemon both on your and your opponents, but the follow reasonable rules. GMS made a fairly in depth write up about it that you can read here: https://genericmadscientist.github.io/posts/challenge-cup/
28
29
Q: What is Infinite Continue Glitch?
30
A: Basically if you already have a suspended (saved) battle, and then go to suspend another battle it'll ask whether you want to overwrite your previous one, or continue without suspending. If you choose the latter, the game allows you to restart the fight as if it was using a continue, but your continue is not used up. To have this option you must first have a continue however, so especially in the harder cups I'll specifically be playing for a continue in the first or second fights, because restarting the cup all the way from the beginning is a ridiculously long amount of time
31
32
Q: Why do you reset after completing a cup?
33
A: This is just to skip the small cutscene that shows all the Pokes you used in the cup. Saves just a few seconds each time.
34
35
Q: What is with those split icons? What does A and B mean?
36
A: This is a grading system for all of my splits. I'm sure you are familiar with grades, A+ being the best then going down from there. So the idea is, if the split has an A+ next to it, my time there was really good and would be very difficult to beat. If it's a C though for example, it was quite poor, and I should be able to save time there pretty easily.
37

38
This way, everyone watching has more accurate information on where I can save time, and where I should be making up time. Also that all time loss is not equal, as losing time vs an A+ split isn't really that bad, whereas losing time vs a C split is really bad. It'll probably take a while for a lot of people watching to pick up the meaning so I will appreciate everyone who explains how this works (correctly) in chat to new people.
