Name: Donatien "The Winged Knight" Chevalier |
Age: 28 |
Personality: Devoted, Iron-willed, Loyal, Remorseful, Silent |
Appearance: tl;dr 6' tall, deep brown hair, tan skin, brands covering arms and legs |
I. Donatien stands at about six foot tall, and is rather well-muscled, clocking in at approximately 230 pounds from his muscle-mass. His hair is a dark brown, nearly black, and is swept up and away from his face, cut short on the sides though rather long on top. He stands regally, hands folded behind his back, head tilted up, and stoic. |
- | II. His arms and legs are scarred immensely, wrapped in the remnants of white hot brands. They have long scarred and healed, though their insidious presence still holds true on Donatien's flesh.
+ | II. His arms and legs are scarred immensely, wrapped in the remnants of white hot brands. They have long scarred and healed, though their insidious presence still holds true on Donatien's flesh. He has three studded earrings in either ear, a bar at the top of both, nipple piercings, and four studs around his sternum.
- | III. His travelling clothes help to hide his identity from the people that once trusted him, in the hopes that he can return home without needing a widespread explanation: a masquerade mask, bearing the image of an eagle, a simple black jacket, a pair of silken pants, and a pair of leather riding boots. He wears metal choker and a single belt that holds one of his artifacts, the Throne's Blade.

IV. His armor, the Seraph's Flesh, is a family artifact, given to him by his mother. When active, it sheathes his body in pearly, plate armor, a close helmet, and a thin, crimson tabard bearing his family crest, hanging from both hips. Small silvery wings rest on either side of the armor's helmet, and on both ankles. Beneath the full plate is chainmail, namely at the joints of the armor, that is as black as the night sky. |

Background |
Donatien lived a quiet life of nobility and honor. He was the first son born unto his parents, the fourth child. His older sisters were all marked for lives of royalty, of socializing and pushing the family forward both financially and politically. However, when Donatien was born, war was on the horizon, he was trained to be a knight. |
Every day he would train his body and his mind, to protect his country, to protect his family. By the time he was old enough to join the war, he had to defend his home. He only slayed a handful of Apostles before the war ended, stragglers that he found deep in the hillsides and woods of Floria. |
When he returned home, he was greeted with a happy hello, a warm meal, and his family's love. He stayed the family knight for several years, ushering in renown for his family in tourneys and duels (all for show really, the era of knights has long passed). |
However, in the dead of the night, he was awoken by his second oldest sister, Gwenavyre, screeching. When he arrived in her room, he was greeted by several Apostles. They had already made off with Donatien's two other sisters, but one stepped forward. They were clearly a superior, and left the Winged Knight's insides twisting. They promised a compromise, none of Donatien's family would be harmed, his home would remain untouched, his people would stay safe, but only with one compromise: Donatien's service. |
With two sisters already in their clutches, and who knew how many townspeople, he had no choice but to accept, held tight under their tyrannical thumb. He stays with the Apostles, clenching his teeth and fists at every opportunity. His sisters' safety is all that he can fight for at this point, his honor and his reputation now cleanly chopped apart. |

How would your PC react to a fellow PC killing an innocent?: He would be outraged, but if there was even a chance that an Acolyte would hear of Donatien's retribution, he'd bite his tongue. |
Confronted with a fight?: In self-defense, Donatien would fight smartly (avoiding using his armor if at all possible) until the foe was exhausted, then offer it an ultimatum: death or a life debt. (The debt would be clarified when I return) |
You're left to your own devices, and have plenty of free time to do as you please?: Donatien doesn't speak to anyone associated with the Acolytes, he will only answer the most basic of questions. Otherwise, he is either training his body, or listening in on conversations, trying to learn about the higher ups. |
How would your PC react to a close friend's death?: First step, vengeance. Second step, mourning. Donatien will not rest until his close friends are avenged, especially in death. He has no time currently to mourn, but will make time when he is alone. |
A random person's death?: An acolyte, he'd silently celebrate; an innocent, he'd slay or calm whatever caused the death; a wildcard, he would likely be nonplussed. |

Contacts |
Lance Vernon: One of the local winery owners! Lance sells high-quality wine that he claims to be unique to only him; while most of the people know by now this is due to him and his brother’s ability to use Thaumaturgy, they generally don’t care due to the taste and high-quality of his product. Lance’s wine is a bit expensive due to it only really being found in one place and placed through a special aging process that takes a while to finish, but he does his best to distill all the wine he can among the city of Taslien. Lance’s brew is mostly appreciated by thaumaturges, as he and his brother imbue a small dash of mana into their drinks to provide an extra boost towards anyone that drinks it. |
|
Sebastian Vernon: Lance’s brother. The Vernon twins own the winery together, with Lance being in charge of most of the magical processes of things while Vernon actually acts as a mix of a security guard and manager. Sebastian himself is a vastly superior magus to his brother, and during the war he’s actually known for using that power to keep anyone from ransacking the vineyard. |
|
Simon Cronauer: The current mayor of Taslien. Simon inherited his position after the death of his parents (Edgar and Makayla). While the position of mayor was a lofty one, he was able to properly reconstruct Taslien to its former glory thanks to several thaumaturges. Simon himself isn’t that skilled at magecraft, but his charisma is all he needs to win over the people. |
|
Thaddius “Ted/Teddy” Finch: Thaddius served during the war as one of the many thaumaturges of the golden circle. During the war, he was directly trained by a well-known thaumaturge among the circle (Freya Wolf; one of the direct apprentices of the Valmastran Archmage). For the most part, Ted supported the army by using his druidic magic to create unique plants, help with man-made artifacts, and often helped command assaults from the back, using his powerful magic to handle things from a distance. |
|
Varick Albanesi: Like Teddy, Varick was one of the Thaumaturges trained directly beneath Freya during the war. Varick himself was known for manipulating a branch of Thaumaturgy that allowed him to create explosive sludge. Able to mold this slime in any way he pleases, he used it to blast holes into either the enemy lines or the front lines of the Apostles, and was notorious for his carpet bombing. |
