# Privacy Policy

**catbot7** ("the Bot," "we," "us," or "our")

## 1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what data catbot7 collects, why, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have. catbot7 is a Discord game bot operated by sneezeparty. It is not affiliated with Discord Inc. By using the Bot, you agree to this Policy.

We collect only what we need to run the game. We do **not** sell your data, and we do **not** use it for advertising.

## 2. What we collect

### 2.1 Discord identifiers
- **Discord user ID** — the numeric ID of each player. This is the primary key for your game data.
- **Discord username** — stored to display in profiles and leaderboards.
- **Server (guild) IDs** and **channel IDs** — to scope game state per server and to know where cats spawn. Cat collections are tracked **per server**, so the same user has separate progress in each server.

### 2.2 Game data
We store the data needed to run the game, associated with your user ID (and, for per-server progress, the server ID). This includes, for example:
- Cats caught (counts per rarity), packs, prisms, and discovered cats.
- In-game currency ("coins"), battlepass level and progress, achievements, trophies, and streaks.
- Stats for game systems such as catnip/mafia levels, jobs/heists, the simulated stock market (orders, holdings, price/portfolio history), and casino minigames (amounts bet and won — all in-game currency only).
- Per-server and per-channel settings configured by administrators (such as spawn channels and feature toggles).

### 2.3 Profile customization (optional)
If you use customization features, we store the values you provide, which may include custom profile **text**, an **emoji**, a **color**, and a **custom image URL**. You choose whether to provide these. Do not submit content you do not have the right to use, and do not submit personal or sensitive information here.

### 2.4 Purchases / entitlements
If you make a purchase, we store a record of your **entitlement** (which item/SKU you hold, and supporter or cosmetic status). This comes from Discord's monetization system. **We do not receive or store your payment card details, billing address, or other payment information** — Discord and its payment processors handle all of that.

### 2.5 Direct messages and reminders
If you opt into DM-based features (such as reminders), we store your **DM channel ID** and your DM preferences so the Bot can message you. The Bot reads message content in a channel only to detect game actions (for example, catching a cat by typing in a configured channel); it is not used to monitor unrelated conversation.

### 2.6 Technical/diagnostic data
If error reporting is enabled, limited diagnostic information (such as error messages and technical context) may be processed to help us fix problems. See Section 4.

We do **not** intentionally collect special categories of sensitive personal data (such as health, biometric, or precise location data).

## 3. Why we use this data

We use the data above to:
- Operate and provide the game (track collections, currency, progress, leaderboards, settings).
- Deliver and reconcile purchases and supporter/cosmetic perks.
- Send DMs you have opted into (e.g. reminders).
- Maintain, debug, secure, and improve the Bot, including detecting and preventing abuse, cheating, and exploits.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

**Legal bases (where the GDPR or similar laws apply):** performance of our agreement with you (providing the service), our legitimate interests (running and securing the game), your consent (for optional features like DMs and customization), and compliance with legal obligations.

## 4. Third parties and sharing

We do not sell your data. We share data only as needed to run the service:

- **Discord Inc.** — The Bot runs on Discord, so Discord necessarily processes your interactions, and Discord handles all purchases and payments. Your use is governed by Discord's [Privacy Policy](https://discord.com/privacy).
- **Our hosting/database** — Game data is stored in a database we control, hosted in [HOSTING REGION/COUNTRY].

The following services are used **only if we have enabled them** — delete any that do not apply to your instance:

- **[Optional] Sentry** — error/diagnostic reporting, to help us identify and fix bugs. See [Sentry's privacy information](https://sentry.io/privacy/).
- **[Optional] Wordnik** — used by the `/define` command to look up word definitions; the queried word is sent to Wordnik. See [Wordnik's privacy policy](https://www.wordnik.com/privacy).
- **[Optional] top.gg** — bot listing/voting integration. (Voting is currently disabled on this instance; remove this line if you do not enable it.)

We may also disclose data if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others.

## 5. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as you use the Bot, so your progress persists between sessions. Some game data is **reset by design** at the start of each season (for example coins and battlepass progress), while other data (such as caught cats and certain cosmetics) persists across seasons.

If you stop using the Bot or request deletion, we will remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Backups containing your data are overwritten or deleted on our normal backup cycle.

## 6. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise these rights as follows:

- **Access / export / deletion** — Contact us at [email protected] or in the support server, using the Discord account you want the request to apply to (so we can verify it). We will delete the game data associated with your user ID on request.
- **Stop DMs** — Turn off DM features in the Bot, or block the Bot on Discord.
- **Remove all data quickly** — A server administrator can remove the Bot from a server; you can stop using the Bot at any time and request deletion of your stored data.

We do not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. If you are in the EEA/UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

## 7. Children's privacy

The Bot is not directed to children under **13** (or the higher minimum age required to use Discord in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone below that age. If you believe a child below the minimum age has provided us data, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.

## 8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the data we hold, including restricting access to the Bot's database and administrative interface. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your own Discord account secure.

## 9. International transfers

Your data may be processed in [HOSTING REGION/COUNTRY] and in other countries where our service providers (including Discord) operate. These countries may have data protection laws different from those in your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

## 10. Open-source note

catbot7 is open-source software (AGPL-3.0, with the `catpg.py` component under MIT), based on [milenakos/cat-bot](https://github.com/milenakos/cat-bot). The source for the instance we run is available at https://github.com/sneezeparty/. The source code describes how data is handled in the software; this Policy describes how **we**, as the operator of this hosted instance, handle your data.

## 11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, make reasonable efforts to announce them (for example in the support server). Your continued use of the Bot after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
