kaede is easygoing, and generally has a calm demeanor. it takes a lot to make her angry, and even then it's a quiet sort of anger, and never the type that ends up hurting people. unless you push her buttons, she's quite good at reigning in her feelings, and keeping a leash on her powers.

she's patient with people, but it stems more from her own sense of self-preservation than from a regard for others. doesn't show it outwardly because she doesn't like starting arguments, but is pretty opinionated. she's not very talkative, but likes to think she gives good advice. what irks her is when people think they know what's good for her and try to push her to do things she doesn't want to.

views herself in a bad light because she feels like this whole "motherly" persona she has is just because she wants to feel like she's doing good, and not because she's actually a good person. wishes she could find the strength to confide in someone that won't shun her. not entirely religious but a big believer in fate, and the ideal that there is a plan for all of them. thinks that by helping young witches, she can atone for what she did to her family.

background:

brought up in a family of witches, but was never taught how to harness her powers because these were the type of witches that were ashamed of their heritage, ashamed of kaede's power. they were always on the run, and she was always kept hidden, not allowed to make connections w the outside world because her family was afraid that her powers would go haywire.

when she was around 16 or so, and after a bunch of botched "escape" attempts, she manages to make friends w another kid in the town she was staying in. she tried her best to keep it quiet and on the down low, except her family finds out and freak out. they end up "killing" the kid (this could be a sub-plot just saying) and kaede p much snaps. her power goes haywire and she ends up hurting her family, killing some and hurting others. what she did scares her, and she runs away, surviving by herself. from then on, tries to keep her power under control so she doesn't end up fucking things up again.

pretty much from the beginning. it was never hidden from her; she just had to hide it from others.

how she found the sanctuary:

mostly by whispers on the street during her time in hiding after she left her family. she thought most of the witches were dead/captured for a while, except there was talk of a safe place for them. kaede doesn't outright seek it because she prefers not to be around people. i can see her being discovered by one of the other girls and being taken in tbh.

what is she like when she first gets there? when she settles in?

at first, she's very distant, and doesn't trust anyone. it takes a while for her to grow civil with the other girls and learn to get along with them. probably causes a few "accidents" too. as time goes by, she learns how to gain their trust but still keep everyone at arm's distance. it never fails to surprise her that she was given the task of making sure any new "recruits" learn the deal and start to fit in.

what are the main ways she uses her powers?

she doesn't like using them at all. prefers to fight indirectly and with her brains instead. the few other members that know her power sometimes joke that she keeps the electricity running (she does not appreciate it). sparks and short-circuiting whenever she gets angry. most of the younger witches don't know her power so it's a little bit of a mystery. only uses her power when they're in dire situations.

how do the others view her?

kind of want her to have a little brotp w the dream and mirror mirror. the rest view her as someone integral to the group, because her powers make her strong and she's good at realizing what people want and catering to them. some of them are a little scared because of how unpredictable her power is.

how does she view the others?

she views them as the means to an end. she doesn't hate them or anything, and knows that they have to stick together to survive. has soft spots for certain other girls (mostly the ones mentioned in the previous question) and is nurturing towards the younger ones.

what does she do there? is she active? inactive? why?

mostly a teacher that shows young witches the ropes and helps them with training and controlling their powers (which is ironic because she can't control her own. sort of a contingency plan if things go wrong (use her power and boom)

also in charge of making sure they have enough supplies to last everyone.

    * kaede is the "grocery shopper" of the group, and is known by most store clerks in the places she frequents.
    * i can see her meeting yoongi while going to get something for one of the other girls (a CD for the dream maybe).

[ beginning ] sort of a love/hate bantering vibe, neither of them willing to let the other win an argument. they strike up a friendship for the sole reason that they're bored (yoongi) and because "man for someone who doesn't give a shit about anything, this guy sure is persistent".

[ middle ] tentative middle ground. they discover that they have quite different views and enjoy having "philosophical" debates. yoongi finds himself looking forward to her visits and kaede questions whether this will end up like her last friendship with a normal person.

[ end ] him discovering that she's a witch, her freaking out and pulling a disappearing act before he can even talk with her. by now, yoongi's sure he has feelings for her and doesn't care whether she's actually a fucking care bear, and kaede is struggling with accepting that she wants to be with him (not need, want). you can decide whether they end up together (or whether one of them dies oooh)

does he ever find out about her being a witch? if so, how?

he does. it's either because she fucks up and loses her temper around him and evidence of her power is shown.
or he gets caught up in a showdown between the witches and the hunters and she has to help him bcus she can't just now.
yoongi would highkey be freaked out but lowkey try to keep it cool.
