- This is a bit rough translation of the description to the video: https://youtu.be/OWJEwuvK4Rc
- (sorry for the rusty future tense)
- ---
- Murloc be outside, Yoll be slow, Pancake be chewing, crested gecko (in Russian known as the Banana Eater) be walking, the seal be patient.
- Today's chosen question:
- Aang An18 asks:
- "A question for you, Nika: when you finish building your owl shelter, would you keep your job at the airport? Or will you have to resign? Or will you do both things somehow? I mean, either way you'll have to relocate quite far away..."
- Answer:
- I can't tell for sure right now, since I won't know until I try. In any case the building process would require more than one year, as well as I won't be able to move there right away. I would like to keep my job. Perhaps we would figure out some kind of a schedule with short-term stays if I find a helping hand to look after the animals. Either way it's quite early to think about it yet. But, just in case, my boss is willing to find a common ground.
- Since the answer to this question came out to be short, I'll answer another one, which is actually three. It was written in English and conveys naive assumption that my answers won't be long.
- Drowning in Tea18 asks:
- "Hi Nika, my questions aren't as interesting as the other ones, but I would be grateful if you can answer them :) Since they are just very short questions, you don't have to type long answers in the description. Just a reply would be fine :) 1. How much money do you spend on the animals each month? (Food, vet visits, medications, supplements...etc) 2. How do you make time for so many animals and still have time to make videos and play WOW? 3. Which kind of bird of prey do you like the most?"
- The answers:
- 1. Quite much. (Currency rate: $1 = 64₽)
- 1000 crickets twice a month - 2000₽
- Morio worms (Zophobas) 500 gramms - 1000₽
- Mices for the small owls: 90 per month, 40₽ each, 3600₽ total
- Quails or rats for Yoll: 30 per month, - 3500₽
- Murlock's catfood: 2 kg. - 1000₽
- 11100₽ total ($174). This is the minimum per month.
- Not including ocassional purchases like UV lamps for the reptiles, supplements, vitamins, calcium, - approx. 10000₽ ($165) per year.
- Vet visit with a bird usually costs 3000-5000₽. If the bird would require treatment, that will lead to purchasing medicines including the expensive ones meant for humans.
- For example, when Murlock got sick, his hospitalization and treatment costed me 15000₽.
- When I get to shelter wild birds, even more food is spent.
- 2. There's a joke:
- - When do you get enough sleep?
- - Where do I pour down to?
- (Russian pun joke, where the word "высыпаться" may mean "get enough sleep" or "pour down" (passive voice) depending on the context)
- In other words, I sleep very little. Usually 5 hours a day, 6-7 hours on weekends. It's enough for me, since I've got superpowers that protect me from suffering from getting up early. So I go to sleep after 1 AM and get up somewhere at 6 AM. Sometimes I manage to force myself to sleep extra couple of hours.
- Actually I'm still missing many things I want to do. No time for handcrafting, other hobbies, visiting workshops or friends living in the countryside, attend the gym and many more.
- So no, I do not have enough time for all the things I need.
- 3. I don't have "the favorite ones". There's no context where I could answer this question.
- Every kind of birds is unique and has its pros and cons.
- There are birds I like more or less, but there's neither the best nor the worst ones.
- I like hawks more than falcons, and magpies more than crows. The day birds are more fit to train and hunt with, but for talks and cuteness I prefer owls.
- Among the owls I like those with golden eyes rather than those with black, but every species have their own attractive features.
- I got to handle a golden eagle and my dream is to meet with a harpy eagle, but I won't ever choose a favourite between them.
- They are all awesome.
