optimistic. he's very optimistic and doesn't think negatively towards anything and anyone. he would always try to see the good first in anything or anyone rather than the bad and try to focus more on the good and neglect the bad.
he's not the type to be direct. he likes to keep his words simple but understandable. he's sort of shy but that's because he didn't have a lot of friends to talk to before because he was too focused on his studies. he always finds it hard to start a conversation and would prefer if someone starts it and tries to continue it.

background:
he was born and raised in gwangju, south korea. his father's a police officer and hoped chaehwan would follow his step in the future, resulting countless trainings done by his father with him. he has two younger sisters, chaejung and chaeyoung.
as a student he was strict to himself and had always studied in his room in order to become a police man like his father wished him to. though later on, in a music period at school where the teacher tested for everyone's voices and see who would fit the center part, he was chosen to be the center and somehow, decided by himself that he wants to become a singer. his father was obviously against it at first but his mother had always been encouraging and tried to convince his father. it did take a lot of time before his father agrees to let him chase his dream, even though he wasn't completely agreeing to it yet, he still tried to let him do what he wants to do.
at school, he was only friends with soojung (now known as baby soul), who is his senior. the two would practice singing together and join singing competitions together. the two also promised that if they were to debut, they will one day sing on the same stage.
he joined the company later when he was in 2012 when they held the first audition. he found it hard to connect with other trainees at first because he's the oldest out of all the existing trainees. he would practice by himself by coming early in the morning and leaving very late at night. later though, he met up with soojung again and she gave him advices and he managed to get close to the younger trainees. since a lot of groups these days debut at such a young age, he often has worries about not being able to debut because of his age.
