- Subject: Petition for ReReferendum
- From: Andrew Bolster <me@andrewbolster.info>
- To: ian.paisley.mp@parliament.uk
- Mr Paisley.
- I've lived and grown up in the Ballymoney and Coleraine area, I worked in
- the Republic for a high tech company HQ'd in Sweden, I then undertook my
- PhD research as a partnership between two EU nations and NATO's marine
- research centre based in a third EU nation.
- I do not dispute the results of the Referendum. The people spoke for what
- they could say and understand and what they believed. But the margin for
- changing the status of the UK was made with less than the population of NI.
- This was a campaign built on lies and fears.
- For relevant contrast, the GFA referendum had a 71% majority that we could
- confidently build the Belfast Agreement on top of. Part of that, like the
- Scottish Referendum result, was based on the idea of common trade and
- travel between EU nations.
- I understand and respect that you have your views with respect to CAP and
- the impact of the single market on our agricultural heritage, but for a
- question this big, a 1.2% margin isn't enough for us as a country to unite
- behind the decision in the way we did under GFA (even if SF didn't bother
- showing their faces for a while).
- As such, I've signed this parliment.gov.uk petition on a rejuniated
- refferendum. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215
- It's already well past the "Needs Parliamentary Response"number, but I
- guess I just wanted to let you know that as someone from a protestant
- background in your constituency, if we're being dragged out of the EU by
- England under margins this small, I want a border poll, and as a lifelong
- unionist, that realisation pains my soul.
- Anyway, may as well scream at the wind on the record. Have a good week. I'm
- sure it's bedlam.

- Andrew thank you for your email it is very considered and I respect the points you made. I don't believe it will be as you fear. In fact this is a positive revolution for change
- I agree it was a narrow margin but I doubt if the margin was the other way I would be hearing from you!
- My view is that we must now all pull together and make this happen for the entire benefit of the entire country.
- Best wishes for the future and please do keep in touch.
- Regards
- Ian Paisley
