  4. Subject: Petition for ReReferendum
  5. From: Andrew Bolster <me@andrewbolster.info>
  6. To: ian.paisley.mp@parliament.uk
  7.
  8. Mr Paisley.
  9.
  10. I've lived and grown up in the Ballymoney and Coleraine area, I worked in
  11. the Republic for a high tech company HQ'd in Sweden, I then undertook my
  12. PhD research as a partnership between two EU nations and NATO's marine
  13. research centre based in a third EU nation.
  14.
  15. I do not dispute the results of the Referendum. The people spoke for what
  16. they could say and understand and what they believed. But the margin for
  17. changing the status of the UK was made with less than the population of NI.
  18. This was a campaign built on lies and fears.
  19.
  20. For relevant contrast, the GFA referendum had a 71% majority that we could
  21. confidently build the Belfast Agreement on top of. Part of that, like the
  22. Scottish Referendum result, was based on the idea of common trade and
  23. travel between EU nations.
  24.
  25. I understand and respect that you have your views with respect to CAP and
  26. the impact of the single market on our agricultural heritage, but for a
  27. question this big, a 1.2% margin isn't enough for us as a country to unite
  28. behind the decision in the way we did under GFA (even if SF didn't bother
  29. showing their faces for a while).
  30.
  31. As such, I've signed this parliment.gov.uk petition on a rejuniated
  32. refferendum. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215
  33.
  34. It's already well past the "Needs Parliamentary Response"number, but I
  35. guess I just wanted to let you know that as someone from a protestant
  36. background in your constituency, if we're being dragged out of the EU by
  37. England under margins this small, I want a border poll, and as a lifelong
  38. unionist, that realisation pains my soul.
  39.
  40. Anyway, may as well scream at the wind on the record. Have a good week. I'm
  41. sure it's bedlam.
  42.

  51. Andrew thank you for your email it is very considered and I respect the points you made. I don't believe it will be as you fear. In fact this is a positive revolution for change
  52. I agree it was a narrow margin but I doubt if the margin was the other way I would be hearing from you!
  53. My view is that we must now all pull together and make this happen for the entire benefit of the entire country.
  54. Best wishes for the future and please do keep in touch.
  55. Regards
  56. Ian Paisley
