  1. Q: What is the point of this speedrun?
  2. A: Beating Pokemon Black in about 3 and a half hours. It's essentially Glitchless with one very minor trick in Icirrus Gym to skip 1 trainer
  3.
  4. Q: What made you want to pick up this game?
  5. A: A few reasons:
  6. 1. Seeing a few people like Werster and GarfieldTL running White 2,and Vulajin+Ryosotis running this gave me the inspiration to consider picking this up
  7. 2. The RNG Manipulation in this game is MUCH easier than in most of the other DS games(particularly White 2 imo),because there are no moving NPCs that'll advance the RNG more than I want it to,unlike in White 2
  8. 3. The Unova Pokemon games are a staple of my childhood to me as they are what introduced me and got me into both the games and the anime in the very first place
  9. Basically speaking: Nostalgia
  10.
  11. Q: What are you manipulating with RNG Manipulation?
  12. A: I am manipulating Tepig's nature to be Adamant with these stats at Lvl 5:
  13. 23 HP,13 Attack,11 Def,9 Sp Attack,11 Sp Defense,11 Speed
  14. I do this by setting the clock at a certain time and date, and starting the game at a specific time, then finally holding a certain button combination until the"The Pokemon Company"screen shows up
  15. Currently I run on emulator and it's done a little differently on emulator but it works the same way
  16.
  17. Q: What dangerous fights are there in this run?
  18. In my opinion:
  19. Cheren 4
  20. N 3
  21. Elesa
  22. Clay
  23. Cheren 7
  24. The two spinners right before Victory Road on Route 10
  25. Saving and quitting is now allowed compared to when I ran this game previously,so I'll save at the above fights
  26.
  27. Besides the above listed trainers a lot of the fights are pretty straightforward, while I don't exactly steamroll the game the current strats make most of the fights pretty tame
  28.
  29. Q: Why Black instead of White?
  30. A: Zekrom is faster to defeat as he has a weaker Sp Def. compared to Reshiram(3 turns instead of 4-5)
  31.
  32. Q: What pokemon do you get/for what in this run?
  33. A: Tepig(starter): Main fighter
  34. Pansage: Cut slave+backup fighter for a few early game fights
  35. Ducklett: Fly slave
  36. Reshiram: Getting a little bit of damage off N 5 and Ghetsis's first Pokemon
  37.
  38. Q: Why Tepig+its evolutions instead of any other starter?
  39. A: The other 2 starters are pretty crappy to use in runs as they have a lot more tough fights.
  40.
  41. Q: Why do you still run on emulator(as well as not show the border on stream)?
  42. A: The current rules for emulator runs require that any run submitted to leaderboards(on emulator)have the entire border of the emulator window to be shown. The problem with that is that if I try to do that in OBS Studio,it only displays the video at a mere 7 FPS,which is annoying af and just makes the video look terrible because of that low framerate. Since I have a cart of the game now as well as a DS Phat capture,I can find a seed for console runs, which would be the obvious solution. The problem with that is it can take quite a while to find a seed given the extra setup the gen 5 RNG manip requires, and at the current moment I don't think I would have the patience for that. Streaming it like I am now would mean going against current leaderboard rules regarding emulator runs, and as such no future runs of mine of this and white 2 will not be submitted to the leaderboards. I think finally not worrying about being acceptable for leaderboards will allow me to enjoy all speedruns.
