background: SEN MAIYA's childhood was once a normal and dull one, until one day her whole neighborhood/district/village had burned down because of a fire caused by some rebels. it had accidentally spread farther than intended. luckily for maiya, she wasn't home then and was over at her aunt's. the fire both got her house and her parents. she had been 9 then, and too young to really understand what lost felt like. she had a close relationship with her parents, but she was 9, it didn't really hit her that much. she had been living with her aunt ever since. as she got older, she started to fully understand the whole story and got mad at the kingdom for not taking responsibility over her home and other losses.

personality: SEN MAIYA tends to be too lost in her own world. she's a dreamer and a complete bookworm. often, you'd find her daydreaming or too absorbed with the novel in her lap to actually pay attention to the people coming in and out of the library she works in. she tends to be unaware of the situation around her. however, with the amount of books she has read, maiya is considered to be pretty smart. she just needs someone to knock some sense into her sometimes. maiya is slightly closed off, a girl who likes to stay in her comfort zone. she doesn't engage that much in fear that she wouldn't fit in. that's why she spends most of her days holed up in the library (and she doesn't really mind). she doesn't warm up to people easily and it makes her seem a bit dismissive, even if it's not her intention to be that way. her silence and somewhat resting bitch face get her misunderstood all the time. but inside, maiya is just a sweet girl who loves books and dreams of things that she knows would never happen. she's kind, but never get on her bad side or, like, burn down her book collection. you'll be in for a ride. she's also very cautious and careful. she doesn't like anything that screams trouble. she's the type of girl who wouldn't dare stay out after curfew despite being a young adult (yes, she still has a curfew) or doing acts of rebellion. so definitely don't count her in if you're planning a protest against the royal family. or sneaking into forbidden territory. maiya's a bit too mature for her age. her sensibility is useful, yes, but there are times where the girl just needs to loosen up a bit. when it comes to her opinion on the royal family and royalty in general, maiya is torn. she would be lying if she said she had never dreamed of living in the palace, waking up and having breakfast in bed and walking down the hallways in dresses prettier than her aunt could ever make. but she's heard of controversies, their reputation and how they handle things (more specifically: how they left her town/village/district unattended after the huge fire), and that's where the distaste comes in. the only noble she's met and have a relationship with is yoojung, and maiya loves yoojung, but she's not going to let one noble change her perspective. yoojung just happens to be nice, that's all.

reason to ball: a local at the library whom she is very friendly with was the one who asked her to go. the lady is none other than duchess KWON YOOJUNG (31) who is one of the queen/king's (you decide) secretary. even if they differ a lot in age and lifestyle, maiya and yoojung have a tight relationship. the woman treats maiya like her own daughter, despite maiya's difficult attitude at times. she would never admit to it, but she's very thankful of yoojung for keeping her company in the library and tending to her needs whenever necessary. that's exactly why maiya couldn't say no when yoojung asked (read: forced) her to be her plus one even if balls had never been maiya's ideal way to pass time. also, yoojung is very persuasive. and also, yoojung promised to treat maiya out for cake and knowing how much of a cake enthusiast she is, the girl simply couldn't turn the offer down.

how did you meet: they were at the masquerade ball for two completely different reasons. maiya because she couldn't say no to her friend and him because he felt like sneaking in and cause a ruckus or two, despite him despising everything about the kingdom and royal family. royals and nobles were mingling, classical music played in the background with the sound of clinking glasses were present. everyone was in motion. except for maiya, who had taken it upon herself to bring a book with her knowing that she wouldn't know what to do when she got there. so maiya calmly read (while standing up) by one of the buffet tables. everything was fine until some guy bumped into her and spilled his drink all over her dress AND the book she was reading. maiya, being the book lover that she is, obviously got angry. so angry that she set it down on the table, forgot all about it, and was about to full on yell at the guy's face. but before she could say anything, she realized the stain on her dress and how her aunt's to scold her for this later. he was lost for words, looking at how pissed she was even if her eyes were the only things he could see. his intentions were to mess up the ball, not piss off some girl. he wasn't sure if he should apologize or stay silent. he didn't get the chance to. maiya left him before giving him the meanest glare ever. unlucky for her, she left her favorite novel on the buffet table. lucky for him, maiya signed her name on the first page.

the only thing he knew of her was her likes toward science fiction novels and her name (which he only got because she wrote her name on the first page). he had meant to return it but he couldn't find her all night, so he kept it with him ever since just because. until this one day he was in the market, decided to sit down and actually read the book (he never reads) just because stealing apples was starting to get boring. coincidentally, maiya was there at the same time he was. she spotted her peach dog ears bookmark immediately, and figured out that he was the guy who spilled wine all over her dress during the ball. from the on, he kept running into her everywhere and even started to come to the library, which she didn't know how on earth he found out she worked there.

interactions :
  ♥ beginning | they're nothing more than strangers. he striked her as someone who stays true to his beliefs, albeit a little reckless. she's not a big fan of his mischievous ways so she tries to steer clear of him. she thought it's going to be easy but it's not, for fate or whatever else keeps making them cross paths. he just wants to mess around a little, and she looks like someone who could use a little spice of fun in their life. in the beginning, what maiya feels is pure distaste. and him? he's just glad that he's finally seeing a full face, not just the eyes of the girl he spilled wine on (maiya hates him for it).

  ♣ middle | suddenly he's always there. maiya doesn't know how but his presence is becoming a constant thing in her life. she figures out that he is a boy of bright ideas and opinions, even if the way he expresses them aren't really ideal. this is something she's grown to like, for hearing him talk is like  reading a novel. the reason why he keeps coming back to her is because he wants to, and maybe his little crush is starting to show just a little bit. he tries really hard though, because maiya seems to be only in love with books and paintings. they get along over their dislike towards the kingdom and royal, although he seems to have a stronger hatred compared to her. i feel like their relationship would progress really quickly in the middle. they would grow fond of each other, and soon she even starts to harbor feelings for him. something that confuses her because she has never felt this way before for a guy, has never really had an actual relationship with a guy prior to him. she starts falling for his big heart and big smiles and determination. she even sets aside his rebellious ways.

  ♦ end | i don't really see them getting together in the end. maybe stuff happens and he finds out that he is the lost heir and he doesn't know how to feel about it. and he tells maiya about it but she also doesn't know how to feel about it, other than the fact that it's overwhelming. it gets complicated with his newfound realization and status. they obviously like each other, but it's bound to get in the way at some point. he can't stay hidden forever, right? he gets confused by everything, and that leads to him kind of neglecting his feelings (and her) to sort out everything. in result, maiya feels a little abandoned as well.

   + in which he tries (forces) to get her to come with him to sneak into the palace library, because he knows that place is huge and he knows that she'll love it. and then they do sneak into the palace but run into several… obstacles (this can be whatever you want or maybe something from another character's plotline).
   + in which there's a parade in town and it's one of the rare occasions that the king comes down to the villages. he and maiya happen to run into his royal highness, and maiya blurts out "you know, you kind of have his eyes"
   + in which he drinks too much (i dont know what type of alcohol people drink during the medieval times lol) and stumbles into the library wasted off his ass, so she rushes him to the attic/storage room (you pick) because she doesn't want him to cause a scene. he ends up talking about random shit, trashtalking the kingdom, spilling out his life story and how much he hates that he has no idea who his parents are or if they're alive. at some point, he starts leaning in and they almost kiss or do kiss, you take the pick (;
