  1. (12:58:49 AM) ventricularPipefitter: ((We good for audience? Let's get started.))
  2. (1:00:08 AM) ventricularPipefitter: (( http://pastebin.com/4cTRv81g -- When We Last Left Our Intrepid Heroes ))
  3. (1:00:58 AM) ***serpentLinguist chuckles rawly, pulling out the second bottle-- a flavored something-or-other in pink. She hands it to him, taking the last half of the bottle and tossing it back with a practiced air. "She made me trust her. Even if I hadn't, she would have found some way to make me do it."
  4. (1:04:43 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Guilted. 'You owe an old friend that much.' Feh." He tries for a drink--what /is/ this?--sets it aside. "Or goaded. The Strife is awful cooperative for a Ward."
  5. (1:08:57 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter flips through the stack of cards, retrieves a second scumble--traditional, really--and pours a glass.
  6. (1:08:57 AM) ***serpentLinguist hands him another bottle -- clear, probably vodka -- as he sets the second down. "She. Got me to help get everyone on her side, before any of us /really/ knew what she wanted. All we knew is it was going to be big, and we had to be thorough about it."
  7. (1:10:22 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Thorough."
  8. (1:12:24 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Lovely."
  9. (1:12:26 AM) ***serpentLinguist shrugs, looking at the vodka, and shrugging before she unscrews the cap. "Ruthlessly-so. Though, I have to be fair to her. She... she was relieved, that she didn't have to manipulate anyone into agreeing to help, in the end."
  10. (1:13:24 AM) ***serpentLinguist downs a healthy swig, and grimaces momentarily at the burn.
  11. (1:15:27 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "How'd it sit on everyone else's conscience?"
  12. (1:16:27 AM) ventricularPipefitter: Scumble sears the back of your throat like fire, and you can smell the alcohol fumes trying to waft up the nasal passage and kill brain cells. For all that, it's sweet enough to go down easy. Ross pours another glass.
  13. (1:16:43 AM) ***serpentLinguist snorts "We didn't let it. It would have been horrible for them. So I stole those memories from them and sent them through into the next session."
  14. (1:19:29 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter stops playing with the half-empty bottle that he's been pushing idly about the table-top. "Unasked-for?"
  15. (1:26:04 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "...no, pro'lly not." Ross answers his own question. "Well. I can see Ruby asking for it. Delicate flower, a bit."
  16. (1:29:49 AM) ***serpentLinguist shrugs. "They didn't ask after, but. We alluded to it before. It was part of the plan. And we can even say they'd all agreed beforehand, if 'what-ifs' can be taken as preemptive permission."
  17. (1:32:37 AM) You are now known as SMITH_OF_HEART
  18. (1:36:42 AM) You are now known as ventricularPipefitter
  19. (1:38:21 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Hn. Hn."
  20. (1:38:41 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "You still feel scummy keeping secrets."
  21. (1:40:36 AM) serpentLinguist: "I feel scummy keeping /these/ sorts of secrets. Let's be honest here, I am not against not telling the truth all the time." She pauses, mentally resaying that in her head for a moment, before she nods. The sentence works.
  22. (1:42:47 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Whatever." Ross pushes the empty scumble bottle aside, clinking as it hits the first. "Let's rewind this. Didn't want to talk about how she died."
  23. (1:44:39 AM) serpentLinguist: "Mmm." She nods. "Much better to remember how she lived."
  24. (1:45:21 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Spare me the platitudes. I want to know what she was doing with the last months of her life. Pregame. How she contacted you."
  25.
  26. (1:46:44 AM) serpentLinguist: ((23:44 serpentLinguist "Mmm." She nods. "Much better to remember how she lived." ))
  27. (1:47:02 AM) ventricularPipefitter left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
  28. (1:47:55 AM) You are now known as ventricularPipefitter
  29. (1:48:35 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Spare me the sweet nothings. I want to know what she was doing with the last months of her life while hiding from her family."
  30. (1:53:06 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Pre-game, first meeting, all that good routine shit."
  31. (1:53:19 AM) serpentLinguist: "Preparing for her death. Keeping us all alive and helping us realize our greatest potential so we could more effectively remove her in the end. Manipulating us over the course of an entire session so we all /liked/ and /trusted/ her." She frowns thoughtfully at the warped refraction of him casted by the bottle.
  32. (1:53:38 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "She was your server player, wasn'she?"
  33. (1:54:22 AM) ***serpentLinguist curls her shoulders in as she leans against the table. "Yes."
  34. (1:56:43 AM) ventricularPipefitter: Too-quickly, he pushes back the chair, and flips through his wallet 'dex for, ah, yes. Ice and coke. For the rum.
  35. (1:56:56 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Skye's, too."
  36. (1:57:54 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Goddamn scariest motherloving Union you ever saw."
  37. (1:58:02 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Nigh-silent."
  38. (1:59:38 AM) serpentLinguist: "Yeah. And /two/ /cataclysms/ together, at that." She nods. "And with me she was my mentor in all things Mind. And also in how to more effectively be a thief. And everything else."
  39. (2:02:23 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "My sisters didn't talk much if they didn't have to." Ross nods, nursing the rum-and-coke. Variety is nice. "Yeh? What else. 'M looking for *stories* here, 'Cho."
  40. (2:02:43 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Do I have to tell you one first to show you how this works?" He tries to smile.
  41. (2:05:33 AM) serpentLinguist: She casts him a withering glare. "First session meeting. First item of business. As soon as she had made sure we were all there and no one had any pressing issues. She explicitly advertised that neither she nor her dreamself were interested in romance of /any/ kind, at all. You can imagine the fourteen and a quarter seconds of awkward silence that followed."
  42. (2:06:26 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter slams his palm on the table and begins laughing and sobbing hysterically.
  43. (2:06:43 AM) earthenElemental: ((Admit it, I laughed at that one too.))
  44. (2:09:15 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Did - ahaha, oh god, Myr, I miss you so much - did she ever tell you - [bawl, snot all over face, swallow] - about what I did?"
  45. (2:13:00 AM) ***serpentLinguist nods curtly. "She said 'Not /again/,' And threw you out a window. As her dreamself. Her realself was much more ...diplomatic about it." Her tone is painfully neutral.
  46. (2:15:39 AM) ventricularPipefitter: Ross's expression sours.
  47. (2:15:53 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Fine, be, like that."
  48. (2:16:06 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Story is funnier when I am telling it anyways."
  49. (2:17:39 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter clumsily fishes an ice-cube out of the empty class and crunches.
  50. (2:18:50 AM) serpentLinguist: She makes a derisive noise. "Pardon me if I'm not particularly razzed by memories of you trying to kiss her."
  51. (2:21:37 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "..."
  52. (2:21:41 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "..."
  53. (2:22:16 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "so right so enough of eberheart telling stories where the punchline is i'm an idiot.'
  54. (2:22:51 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "The joke is too true to be funny if that makes any sense."
  55. (2:23:14 AM) ***serpentLinguist nods. "Sure. Let's go with that."
  56. (2:24:33 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Let's see. Let's see. Let us see."
  57. (2:24:45 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter mentally casts about for something else topical.
  58. (2:28:15 AM) ventricularPipefitter: Somewhat slower going. It's getting harder to think.
  59. (2:29:14 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "The first time she dissappeared."
  60. (2:29:18 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Went dark."
  61. (2:29:27 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Whatever."
  62. (2:29:31 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Fell off the map."
  63. (2:30:02 AM) ***serpentLinguist nods, settling in a bit.
  64. (2:31:23 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "We heard from Vee more those days and Myra less."
  65. (2:32:08 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Maybe you know perhaps we should have seen it coming Myr cooped herself up in a battleship closet for weeks to code"
  66. (2:32:48 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "But three weeks we don't hear, nary a tweet or ping"
  67. (2:33:00 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Six."
  68. (2:35:24 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Four-bloody-months."
  69. (2:36:22 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "She comes back *happy*"
  70. (2:36:53 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Sorry she worried us, sure."
  71. (2:37:40 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Had the craziest damn stories about the worst fucked sessions and how they done got unfucked and refucked until straightforward."
  72. (2:38:34 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Told us when she'd go, sometimes."
  73. (2:38:45 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Never when she'd be back."
  74. (2:39:34 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "And it'd be all smiles and oowoos and a new security patch I have to learn to install right now this is time sensitive YES middle-of-the-Reckoning."
  75. (2:40:15 AM) ***serpentLinguist giggles. "Of course."
  76. (2:40:49 AM) serpentLinguist: "You... uh. You know why she never told you when she'd be back, right?"
  77. (2:42:01 AM) ***serpentLinguist fiddles with the vodka bottle some, before tossing back another swig of the stuff. Straight out of the bottle. Da would laugh.
  78. (2:42:25 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "She didn't know."
  79. (2:42:48 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "That's it right"
  80. (2:42:51 AM) serpentLinguist: "'zactly. And Why's that?"
  81. (2:46:40 AM) serpentLinguist: ((strike my last?))
  82. (2:47:24 AM) serpentLinguist: "That's it, yeah. Can you guess why she didn't know, though?"
  83. (2:50:15 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter very, very, carefully pours out a glass of whatever's handy into the glass of melting ice-and-water, and sips. Furrows his brow.
  84. (2:57:31 AM) ***serpentLinguist takes another swig. Looks at the bottle disparagingly. Pushes it away. "Take your time. We have aaaaall night."
  85. (2:57:54 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Shit, 'Cho, she couldn't have been feeling like - feeling like - /that/ the entire time."
  86. (2:58:05 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Right after Founding, we"
  87. (2:58:19 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Nothing felt better."
  88. (2:58:33 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Not quite true. Next session after was hell."
  89. (3:00:17 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter thinks. Shuffles off to get water from the faucet. Wobbles back.
  90. (3:00:29 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Headache."
  91. (3:01:17 AM) serpentLinguist: "We've been drinking like a couple fishes. You had some mixed drinks. Not surprising."
  92. (3:01:55 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Pro'lly good to stop for a while."
  93. (3:02:13 AM) ***serpentLinguist nods.
  94. (3:03:02 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "She was on break."
  95. (3:03:10 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Came back when she felt better."
  96. (3:03:14 AM) serpentLinguist: "Yeah."
  97. (3:04:04 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Yeah?"
  98. (3:05:06 AM) serpentLinguist: "She'd have come back when she felt she could be happy and normal around you. Or, well. Whatever-the-hell passes for 'normal' here." She makes air quotes around the word.
  99. (3:06:54 AM) serpentLinguist: "It was a relief, to... well. To stop having to feel obligated to anyone else. She could stop /worrying/ and just... Do whatsoever she pleased, really."
  100. (3:08:17 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Didn't put her on a pedestal."
  101. (3:09:37 AM) ***serpentLinguist turns. "What do you mean by that?"
  102. (3:10:35 AM) stanzicApparati left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
  103. (3:14:00 AM) ventricularPipefitter: Oh dear the saline factory's cranking up again. "She. She. Myra--" He stops. Composes himself. Continues with careful pronounciation on every word. "Myra LeJean was a god-damn, Skaia-blessed, genius. There was no way around amazement at what she could accomplish. But I didn't."
  104. (3:15:15 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "I didn't ask for more than she could bear? We. We were family. Are."
  105. (3:15:45 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Just. It was just good to have everyone together. And to have people that could /stay/, Together. After all that."
  106. (3:16:52 AM) ventricularPipefitter: He tries again.
  107. (3:17:22 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "She couldn't be herself with us."
  108. (3:17:30 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "That."
  109. (3:18:17 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter puts forehead to table, resting on his folded arms, and cries more.
  110. (3:27:35 AM) serpentLinguist: Echo puts her hand on his shoulder. "It's not that. Shit, Ross. She wouldn'f have kept coming back to you if she couldn't be herself around you all. It's just. She got run-down at times, right? Just being around people was a stressful thing because of the self-imposed baggage and implied responsibilities she put on herself that felt /daunting/ after a while."
  111. (3:32:16 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter whispers, still face-down. "So why'd it get so bad she had to kill herself."
  112. (3:41:01 AM) serpentLinguist: "Because she was hurting, and jumpy as hell, and was convinced she was going to end up doing something about it at the worst possible moment. She... Well. She'd preffered the thought of doing it, herself, on her own terms, to leaving you all sometime and immediately running off to do something drastic. Or just being around you and..."
  113. (3:41:42 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "immediately running off to do something drastic" feels wrong, somehow.
  114. (3:42:08 AM) ventricularPipefitter: Rest comes off well. There was a phrasing that OJ used once..
  115. (3:42:24 AM) earthenElemental: (?)
  116. (3:44:09 AM) ventricularPipefitter: (( oops, wrong channel. disregard. ))
  117. (3:46:52 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "She was scared of herself."
  118. (3:53:18 AM) serpentLinguist: 01:49 serpentLinguist "...yeah. In a lot of ways, she was. She was... Was jittery. Nervy. Triggery as fuck. She'd be companionable one moment and then say the wrong thing and she'd sort of... Well. Close herself off."
  119. (3:53:53 AM) serpentLinguist: ((ignore the pretag. Typo-catch fail.))
  120. (3:59:02 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "That kind of thing was always harder to catch in text."
  121. (3:59:32 AM) serpentLinguist: "Yeah."
  122. (4:00:14 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "We knew she wasn't well."
  123. (4:00:55 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "We'd always be there for her, and always were, same as anyone of us to any one of us."
  124. (4:01:07 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "But, /shit/."
  125. (4:01:15 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "You can't stop someone."
  126. (4:02:13 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "They're five hundred years and one yard and millions and millions of Horrors away, in another session."
  127. (4:02:27 AM) serpentLinguist: "No, you really can't. Not once they've made that decision, /knowing/ how many people they're going to break by doing it."
  128. (4:05:24 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "I feel so powerless."
  129. (4:05:38 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "And I'm going to miss her so much. I already was."
  130. (4:09:12 AM) ***serpentLinguist nods. "Well, aren't we all? Isn't that what this game's supposed to teach us? That no matter... No matter how hard we try, no matter how skilled we are, we're weak and we constantly need to strive for more, better, stronger?"
  131. (4:13:30 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Everyone that died wasn't good enough.'"
  132. (4:13:42 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Sure, that's reassuring."
  133. (4:14:37 AM) serpentLinguist: "S'not supposed to be reassuring. That's still what the game, well. What it seems to want to beat into people."
  134. (4:19:10 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Fffuck. That."
  135. (4:20:15 AM) serpentLinguist: "Yeah. Whatever."
  136. (4:20:36 AM) ***serpentLinguist shakes her head.
  137. (4:20:45 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Game doesn't want us to build forums and communities out in the black, either."
  138. (4:21:01 AM) serpentLinguist: "I'm just going to go to sleep now."
  139. (4:21:45 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "G'wan, get."
  140. (4:22:00 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Game doesn't want us in contact with our loved ones after we play with them. Fuck that too."
  141. (4:22:52 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Game doesn't want you /killing yourself/, and Myra found a way around that."
  142. (4:23:16 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "And it probably wants to know if I'm going to roll over and die from grief at this."
  143. (4:23:56 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Sorry, Sburb. All I have for you tonight is spite."
  144. (4:24:57 AM) ***serpentLinguist chuckles, giving him a real smile. "If you did, I would personally have sought you out in the bubbles and soundly thrashed your ass for keeling over all easy-like."
  145. (4:25:21 AM) serpentLinguist: "An... An' I hope you'd do the same to me."
  146. (4:26:04 AM) ***serpentLinguist hovers at the door, looking like she's about to say something.
  147. (4:26:14 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Yeah?"
  148. (4:27:06 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "'Course I'd do the same for you, 'Cho."
  149. (4:27:17 AM) ventricularPipefitter: ((And put that between 'hope you'd do the same' and 'hovers' ))
  150. (4:29:44 AM) serpentLinguist: "Don't drink alone, okay?" She comes over and hugs him, before straightening again. "And... come to bed soon, okay? You want a head start on sleeping so you can get as much in as possible before you have to wake up feeling hung over in the morning."
  151. (4:32:07 AM) ***ventricularPipefitter hugs closely, half-nuzzling. "C'n do that. Jus' going to have summore water, first."
  152. (4:32:56 AM) serpentLinguist: She smiles at him. "Mmm. Should probably have some water myself."
  153. (4:34:59 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "'S go get it now, then."
  154. (4:35:45 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "No point in being 'wake if I can't drink by myself and you're passing out for goldentown."
  155. (4:36:54 AM) serpentLinguist: She smiles. Nods. "Fair 'nough."
  156. (4:37:47 AM) ventricularPipefitter: "Lesgo."
  157. (4:38:02 AM) ventricularPipefitter: [ And so they do.]
  158. (4:38:08 AM) ventricularPipefitter: [ Scene End.]
