Neena and Aruru Short Story

Forewarning:  This story is from the perspective of Neena, and her thoughts will be expressed in italics.  Dialogue will be in a script style (Aruru or A: Hewwo Everynyan!) and narration will be in normal text.  This is my first attempt at writing a short story, so sorry in advance if anyone is out of character or I miss some lore details.  Enjoy!
*Sidenote - feel free to add excessive giggling to the Aruru dialogue

It was a normal day for Neena Makurano, everyone’s favourite gaming kitsune.  She was refining her Apex Legends skills in preparation for the new season.  On her home planet of Velorium, however, this would be seen as anything but ordinary.  You see, Neena was a bit of a recluse who found more comfort in the presence of her best friend Kuma than in other kitsune.  Being an old ha- *ahem refined young lady (not a day older than 122, as she would commonly say), she should be out exploring the multiverse and forging her own path, as her mother would say!  Instead of following that advice, Neena was content to play games on her “borrowed” dimensional technology.  Of course, she was once a bright eyed kitsune ready to explore, but the planet known as “Earth” was just so exciting!  Why travel the universe when one planet contains everything she could ever want!  This planet was particularly advanced in its computing and video entertainment areas, so she might as well take advantage of it.

Neena: Damnit!  Bloodhound is so busted, why won’t my teammates help me out!  Did you see that Kuma!
Kuma: ….
N(=Neena):  Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Ugh, this is getting a bit old, maybe I should take a trip to “Earth” and “borrow” some new games.  Of course, I will return them… just not right now!

N: Hey Kuma, what are you thinking we should do for dinn- *CRASH

What was that?!  I should have sensed if anything got near my home with the field of protection!  No matter, this invader chose the wrong kitsune...wait, is that knocking?  What kind of intruder knocks on the front door!

N: I’ll deal with this Kuma, you better start thinking up what we can eat, I’m thinking fried chicken, extra crispy.

Neena quickly makes her way through her home to the front door, preparing herself for the worst.  She was confident enough in a fight, but she knew she would not be able to handle multiple magic users.

I knew I should have installed that peephole last month, this is the last time I take advice from Kuma on “unnecessary expenses.”  Okay, I guess I’ll just open it, this is my house after all!

What Neena saw when she opened the door was definitely not what she was expecting.  It was a young looking girl...cat...catgirl?  She was dressed in a black and red lolita style dress, with cute paw print designs.  Not exactly the monstrous villain Neena was preparing to face.

Okay, she’s adorable, I want to pet her! Oh my god, is that a custom bell? ...Control yourself Neena, she is still an intruder!

N: Who are you, and why have you entered my domain?

Aruru: H-H-hello!  I-I’m Aruru Gray, it’s n-nice to meet you!

Is she holding out her hand?  She wants me to shake it, I presume.  Okay...Damn her hands are sweaty...is she shaking?  Ugh, I guess I scared her, I need to lighten up.

N: My name is Neena Makurano, though I’m assuming you already know that.  You still have not answered my question.

A(A=Aruru):  O-oh, sorry, I’m a bit nervous.  I’m here on behalf of Kawaii Productions, as the representative of the second generation.  You’ve been accepted, congratulations!

N:  Kawaii what now?  Also, how did you even get here, I’m assuming you're not a Velorian?

A:  Well, Ms. Witch used her magic to teleport me here!  She’s really talented, she taught me everything I know!  And Kawaii Productions?  Shouldn’t you already know that, you sent in an application silly!

Kawaii Productions… wait a minute I remember now.  I got a recruitment email from my PC, I thought it was spam, but Kuma disagreed.  I filled it out on a whim...no way they accepted me, I’m not even from Earth.  Though, this cat girl doesn’t appear to be from Earth either.  She seems nice enough, I’ll let her in to discuss this further.

N:  Well, I guess you can come in so we can sort this out, it is getting cold around this time of year…

A:  Really?  Yay!

Too...cute…must resist the urge to headpat…

Neena leads Aruru inside her rather modest house.  She isn’t used to many visitors, so the only extra seating would be her gaming chair in her room.  Neena sits on the bed and directs Aruru to take a seat in the chair.

A: Woah!  Are these ULTRA WIDE monitors!  Ms. Witch only lets me use normal size!

Heh, I know right, ultra wide monitors are the best.  No wonder she’s so impressed by their greatness!  Clearly, only real gamers could understand the importance of having multiple ultra wide monitors to immerse myself fully in the tactical experience!  It took forever to find a house to rob-*ahem “borrow” these from.  That WoW troll clearly didn’t know what I was capable of...

N:  Yeah, they’re alright I guess.  Anyway, be aware that my familiar Kuma doesn’t warm up to strangers quickly, so don’t be surprised if he hides from you…

As Neena was speaking, Kuma walked right over to Aruru and jumped into her lap…

Traitor!  Forgetting about me just because some new tail (heh) showed up!  We will be talking about this later!

A: UwU, who’s the cutest, you are!  Oh yes you are!  Ms. Neena, Kuma is the best!

N:  Anyway, what’s all this about me being the newest member of Kawaii Production?  I think I get the basics, but where do we go from here?

A:  Well, I wasn’t giving all the details, but should you accept, you’ll be joining me and a group of others in the second generation.  You’ve watched the other members, right?

N:  Yes, I remember enjoying a bratty blue haired imouto and another blonde haired princess who played a lot of Apex.

A:  Well then, the details and contract are in this letter, so I hope you decide to join me...I’d be very sad if you didn’t…You’re the first new member I’ve  met and you seem cool...

Okay, this girl is officially my new weakness.  Those eyes...who could resist?

N: Okay, okay, I’ve been meaning to try new things recently, and this doesn’t sound like the worst use of my time.

Plus maybe I can make enough money to replace the things that I “borrowed.”  It’s a win-win!

N:  You can tell Kawaii that I’ve said yes, for now.

Aruru quickly puts Kuma on the floor and jumps out to hug Neena.

A:  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  You’ve made my day!  Ms. Witch will never believe that I was able to successfully recruit a cool onesan like you!

Oh my god, she’s so soft!  Control yourself Neena, just because you can pet the catgirl doesn’t mean you should!  Wait...now that she’s a coworker, we can do that right!  Ugh, I’ll look this up later.

A:  Well, that’s one down, three more to go! ...but I’m drained, that’s enough social interaction for today, I’ll find the other members tomorrow.  Wait, how am I supposed to get home, Ms. Witch didn’t include a return spell!

N:  Baka!  How did you not see this coming!  Fine, I guess I can take you back to your realm, just grab hold of my hand and we should be able to travel between dimensions together.

A:  Wait!  Ms. Witch says that holding hands is only allowed for married couples!  I-Is this a p-proposal!?

N:  WHAT!?  O-of c-course not, get your mind out of the gutter!  That’s clearly a joke that she’s made up!

At least I think it is...I mean, of course I have experience in these so called “romantic endeavors.” Don’t look at me like that Kuma!  Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating...

A:  W-well, if you say so!

Neena quickly grabs Aruru’s hand and looks away to hide the blush on her face.

How are her hands still this sweaty?  Underneath all that sweat, however, they’re very...very soft… Anyway!  Let’s see what the future has in store for me with this catgirl and my new genmates!

For the first time in years, Neena has something to look forward to that she has no experience in.  While she may be nervous (I’m not!), she will soon see that this new adventure with Kawaii Productions will change her life and allow her to meet some lifelong friends!  The End
