  1. Dragon Quest IX Complete Playthrough
  2.
  3. Dragon Quest IX has a lot of content. We're doing substantively most of what's in the game- buckle up
  4.
  5. This is a full playthrough of Dragon Quest IX, with the following guidelines:
  6.
  7. What we're doing:
  8. - All quests
  9. - All grotto bosses & legacy bosses
  10. - Full bestiary
  11.
  12. What we're not doing:
  13. - Every accolade (in game achievements). Some of these are complete time wasters, like 1000 hours in multiplayer mode
  14. - 100% collection menu (wardrobe, items, alchemy) - playing the game organically without feeling the need to get every item or do every alchemy will make it much more fun. Blue chests in grottos are exciting, and we just play without doing any of the hoimi table/timing manipulation stuff. I'm confident we can do most of everything in the game without it
  15.
  16. This is being played on a 3DS on a real copy of DQIX. Thankfully there is a fan server that hosts the DLC functionality, which enables filling the parlor with guest characters and gives the player access to all quests. I tested on another save file, it works fine. It also does enable the DQVC shop, but it only has one rotation of items, so some stuff will be inaccessible
  17.
  18. Treat this like a first playthrough - even though I know a decent amount about DQIX, I don't know everything about this game, ranging from alchemy recipes to post game boss strategies. The way it'll go down is that I'll organically explore the world as much as I can, including getting recipes and finding everything I can just by exploring & playing. In particular, trying to figure out each super boss without looking strategies up is what appeals to me the most for this playthrough. At some point much further down the road, I'll get into the hoimi table & manipulation side of things to make it all efficient, but we won't be doing that for a long time
  19.
  20. Questions are generally rhetorical- you don't get bonus points for showing off random DQIX knowledge or your ability to look at a yab table, and it's not appreciated for both my sake and the vibe of the stream. We'll get there eventually, and I don't want arbitrary shortcuts. First we explore the game fully, then we do the efficiency stuff, and I'll explicitly ask if I have a question
  21.
  22. There are a few things that are just no longer accessible without the rotating DQVC shop - as a final resort for these cases, near the very end, we can use some Action Replay if we absolutely have to, and we'll make it fair, such as having enough gold for each purchase. But realistically this will be a very small portion
