» sunmi was born in seoul, south korea. she moved to tongzhou, beijing, china when she was 7 years old because her grandma from her mother's side was struggling while living alone. she eventually learned mandarin and went to school there too, making friends and restarting her life there. she took dancing and singing lessons and grew up loving the arts. her family was living comfortably in china until she was 14 when her father died. her family was struggling a lot and couldn't afford to pay for her dance and singing lessons. her mother didn't say anything though because she knew that it's what made her happy. though, sunmi started to take note of her family's struggle and offered to drop out of the lessons and so she did. she occasionally helped her family by doing chores like cooking, doing the dishes, taking care of her grandma, and buying things from the store, etc. her mother worked until late at night just to earn money for her family and once sunmi was old enough, she got a job too. it was hard for sunmi but it payed off. once her family was well enough, they moved back to seoul when she was 16 and started her life there again.
