Blue - Queen vs. Drone

One of the x-rays comes whipping around the Spiral like a greyhound, headed right for the Javaher. Becker tenses his grip, but before he can fire, the Marsalis specimen pounces onto the monster’s back. Claws flashing and clacking, the two creatures tangle and hiss in the hallway while Becker stands back, too stunned to do anything.

The specimen jams a claw under its foe’s chin and rips off its jaw. Acidic smoke fills the air in a spray, tinting it with sour rot. Not contented with the result, it grabs its foe’s toothy tongue and rips it out with a halting set of yanks. A slop of yellow blood and gray muscle emerge from the beast’s maw, then it hits the ground like a broken toy. Two more of the x-ray’s packmates arrive, zipping around their downed ally without a millisecond of hesitation.
