- ####Starsight vs Extreme-Tactician:
- ###Starsight 1:
- * Tariq hears the voices of angels whose god's eye POV sees for many miles. Makes him aware of things "through many layers of stone and wards." Also some element of precognition.
- * Specific feat of him using divine guidance to find good hiding spots and moving unseen.
- * Tariq has magic blasts that incinerate armour and flesh. Person who considers him a peer in a "shooting war" can snipe from mile and a half distances.
- * With longer incantation, can create AOE blast that incinerates opponents or divine smite.
- I think as a quibble that could greatly improve the legibility of your arguments, there is way too much in some of these pastebin files. In this example for the divine smite I had to scroll aaaaaaaaaall the way down through a bunch of prose to the bottom to even see the smite in question happen, and without doing this, you don't give me any clear indication describing the level of damage it inflicts in your description of it.
- Rather than leaving it at "He can smite people" it might've been better to link to specifically that bit at the end where the smite turns half a room to glass and specify that level of damage. "[With a longer incantation, Tariq can call down a divine smite that turns half a room into molten glass.](link)" or something like that
- * Tariq in character is primed to do whatever it takes to protect his VIP.
- * Yuu lacks antistealth capabilities, and even if he did, Tariq blocks scrying.
- * Tariq is supernaturally lucky.
- * Tariq has means of both hiding Cordelia very well, and finding the enemy team very quickly.
- * Yink being characterised as "courageous" and prone to attacking with improvised weapons makes Tariq's job much easier.
- ###ET 1:
- * Yink has experience with escort missions, Yuu is a "tactical operator." Both would pick a good hiding spot to fortify in the aquarium or theatre.
- * Yink has experience with stealth missions and will use noises as a distraction to lead Tariq astray. Isn't stupid enough to charge into danger for no reason.
- * Yuu and Yink stay in cover until they can ambush.
- * Yuu has good senses.
- Wiki pages are not permissible substitutes for feats. You need to link like an in-game description of these abilities or game footage of him using them.
- Even ctrl + f searching this wiki page, nothing comes up for 'Muted.'
- * Yuu has experience with urban warfare and has commanded snipers.
- Again, wiki pages are not substitutes for feats. This doesn't tell show or tell us how he's commanded snipers in urban environments in the past it's just a character bio.
- * Tariq is a frail old man ill equipped for melee, where Yuu fights superhuman monsters.
- * Yuu could dodge the magic blasts.
- * Pier 39 doesn't have many good hiding spots for Cordelia. Yuu could use his hearing to find her.
- I need to see scans for how good his hearing is.
- * Yuu could blast apart all the buildings to get Cordelia.
- * Tariq's angel whispers don't give him precise enough intel to pinpoint the enemy team immediately. He's also stuck waiting for his angels to tell him, giving time for Team ET to hunker down and fortify their chosen hiding spot.
- * Yuu or Yink could use supernatural senses to feel them coming.
- No citation on Yuu's senses, and Yink doesn't get to have supernatural powers per tier rules on equalising VIPs.
- * If Tariq tried to start a chant for an AOE blast Yuu's gunfire would throw him off.
- * Triforce would protect Yink from magic
- See above, he doesn't get magic as a VIP.
- * Cordelia doesn't have stealth abilities, only Tariq.
- ###Starsight 2:
- * ET is relying on Yuu choosing a very specific chain of action without showing evidence he'll reliably do that.
- * Yuu has poor situational awareness---blunders into ambushes, wanders into the open without cover in a battlefield.
- * Tariq's blasts wreck buildings so hiding in a building is insufficient protection.
- * Tariq's angels freely share information and tell him where to go. Can read minds.
- * The description of Yuu's senses is restricted to the energy of a particular type of creature, wouldn't apply generically to magic. Yuu is unprepared for human opponents.
- * Yink's stealth is insufficient.
- * Pier 39 is easier to hide in than ET contends.
- * Tariq is deceptively physically capable for his appearance.
- * Tariq is lucky.
- ###ET 2:
- * God Eater cutscenes aren't reflective of God Eater gameplay.
- You've stipped him to only have his canon weapon set (the stuff I assume he uses in cutscenes), and the cutscenes are the only way of determining how he behaves in character.
- * Tariq's divine guidance is inexact, and he needs to actively seek out guidance without being able to control the information he gets.
- * Yuu is trained to adapt and react quickly
- * Yuu's senses refer to an enhanced perception ability?
- Again if you're just linking wiki pages instead of gameplay or in-game text I can't really determine how any of this practically applies.
- * Yuu fights humanoid enemies too.
- * Yuu's enhanced senses would detect Tariq's magic because it's also physically burning / displacing matter like energy beams.
- I think if he can only sense it by the time it's out and blasting it's of limited utility.
- * Gaps in Tariq's imperfect precog could be exploited by Link.
- * Pier 39 is very open. Hard to hide in.
- * We don't actually know how Tariq fought those opponents, or if it implies physical parity with Yuu.
- * Tariq is unfamiliar with guns.
- * Yuu plays Shogi?
- * Tariq's beams are only effective on unprepared opponents. Yuu is agile.
- ###Result:
- Both Starsight and ET have brought similar characters argued to utilise ranged attacks that shred apart buildings, and super-senses to detect the enemy team.
- However, even if Tariq's divine guidance doesn't offer a perfectly complete running update of events, Starsight still did a much better job evidencing it as a consistent passive advantage Tariq has than ET did at providing evidence for the efficacy of his own pick's senses.
- With just a wiki page and a steam gameplay guide to go off of, I do not know how Yuu's senses work. I do not know if his enemies have something distinct about them that let him sense them, or if it's generically applicable to any opponent.
- ET did provide some evidence Yuu would be able to avoid energy beams targetting him, and I think while I accept Tariq is stronger than he looks, without details on his specific battles against physically powerful opponents (it's unlikely he met them directly in melee given he's a caster who gets into "shooting wars"), it's not fair to say he'd fair well in melee when Yuu has (low for tier but still presently argued) superhuman strength and he doesn't.
- As it stands without much durability for either of them I think a hit from either bodyguard would oneshot the other, but this isn't as important as the status of the VIPs.
- The collateral damage of either bodyguard's ranged weapons mean that the cover available on this map is only minimally effective at protecting the VIPs, meaning that this fight really comes down to a contest of who guesses the right place to blast first.
- Tariq's whispers were more thoroughly evidenced as relevant information gathering tools than Yuu's. I also buy he could logically apply this in the other direction picking places for Cordelia to hide that Yuu would be unlikely to choose first. Tariq's luck advantage on top of that tip him well into the threshold of winning hide and seek first more often than Yuu does.
- **Starsight Wins.**
- Extreme-Gamer---I think you showed some good instincts in this round. You're dead right that the vagaries of Tariq's previous battles mean we can't draw strict conclusions about his physical abilities without knowing *how* he defeated those Named (did he blast them? did he lure them under a cliff and roll a big boulder onto them?). However, I think you need to take some of your own advice and provide more explicit evidence for your own claims.
- For each of Tariq's abilities, Starsight had several quotations from the source material evidencing his ability to apply them in a way productive to her win condition. Conversely, with both Yink's stealth abilities and Yuu's battlefield tactics / senses we're left with only vague wiki page outlines that these are things that do exist, but not in what practical way. Rather than just telling us "Oh Yuu works with snipers, Yuu has experience in urban warfare" show us Yuu applying that experience in ways transferable to this current fight. The shogi digression didn't help you for example, because that only tells us how Yuu behaves when in front of a game board, and not in the middle of a battlefield.
- Coming prepared with direct scans from gameplay, manga, and cutscenes showcasing Yuu's relevant abilities would have been more to your benefit than allowing your opponent to control the pace of the debate.
