- How to protect yourself from Dox or DDos(Denial of Service) as a Twitch streamer, or just another person.
- How do people get my IP?
- -Peer to peer services, such as some games or Skype.
- -Honeypots, also known as sites that are made to get people's IP.
- How do I protect myself from people getting my IP?
- -For Skype, do the following: In skype, at the top there should be settings. In there, go to Advanced > Connection > Check "allow direct connections to your contacts only" if its not already.
- Now, if you want to add people like viewers, you can use a proxy.
- -In the advanced>connection settings, there is "proxy settings" which should be automatically set to "Automatic Proxy Detection". The information you need to enter depends on the proxy you chose. There are online proxies available online for free. https://streamapps.tv/proxies.php
- WARNING: You need to change the proxy settings in the proxy's settings. The Skype settings are not fully functional and still leaves you vulernable.
- -Honeypots: People will try to bait you to open their link, some will be IP grabbers. There are millions of honeypots sites. Most look like forums or imagehosting, so only click links you know you can trust. Always think twice.
- What do I do if someone gets my IP?
- -The first action you want to take is HOW the person got your IP, if it was because of a honeypot site, just don't do it again and you're fine. If it's not, check if your proxy still exists on skype and research any of the recently used programs that could leak IP.
- -Change your IP on your router config(There are tutorials for every single router, trust me.), if that's not possible to do contact your ISP.
- Note: If you have a dynamic IP adress, you can turn your router on and off to change your IP.
- What do I do if I get DDos'd?
- -Contact your ISP immediately and tell them you are being DDos'd, they might be able to get the person that is attacking you in trouble if he's not using a VPN/Proxy.
- How do people DOX?
- -DOXing is literally one of the easiest things to do. You're especially vulnerable if youre in the US, since most sites containing personal information are US only.
- What information can make DOXxing me easier?
- -Do not share your full name, like, ever.
- -If you ever release a site for your stream, make sure it has DNS protection so people can't use WHOIS to see personal information.
- -Even your IP being leaked makes DOXxing much easier due to IP tracing.
- How can I prevent getting DOXxed?
- -As I said, do not share your full name and use common sense.
- -Make sure (if you have a PayPal) it's set to Business Account. If it's not people can send you minitransactions to get your personal information. If you ever see donations that are 1 cent or a little more, someone is trying.
- -If you share images of yourself, or any other image, be careful it isn't on any private social media or any other site of yours that contains personal information either. Reverse image search is scary.
- -Remove yourself from whitepages, there's a full guide here > http://crashoverridenetwork.tumblr.com/post/108387569412/preventing-doxing
- -If you own a domain, get DNS protection so people cannot use WHOIS on your domain and gain personal information.
- What do I do if I have been DOXxed?
- -There's not much you can do, the person that has the information will always have it.
- -If the person is spreading the information in Twitch, make sure you report them with evidence(Chat logs).
- If you have any questions or want advice, feel free to PM me.
