On his own, Doug has a genius-level intellect. Well, maybe not by Marvel universe standards, but he DID build a self-contained suit of powered armor outfitted with advanced sensors. He's also picked up enough programming to make the suit work.

The real star of the show is the Grasshopper suit, a suit of power armor Doug designed for disaster relief and search and rescue. Its main draw is the obscene amount of strength it can put out, able to lift over 70 tons. Though the systems used for lifting don't work very well for quick force like striking, those are seldom important when saving people from a collapsed building. For striking, he has to use the incredibly powerful servos in his legs. Originally designed to let him jump up to ten stories, that same force can be applied to kicks- though he usually dials it down a great deal. Additionally, after an incident in prototyping where shrapnel from a collapsing timber pierced the suit's helmet, the suit's material has been modified to resist small arms fire.

Though they're still in the prototype phase, Doug has constructed a pair of leg extensions designed to augment the leaping abilities of the suit. Theoretically, these jet-assisted legs could launch a user into space- but he has yet to come across a situation where that seems remotely like a good idea. He mostly keeps them around because he thinks they're awesome.

The helmet and suit have a number of sensors built in, including:
Danger-Detecting Insectroid Sensors: So named to shut up investors who he got tired of explaining the mechanisms to, these sensors detect carbon dioxide, movement, provide thermal imaging, and X-ray vision to aid in finding disaster victims. More practically, the lenses on his mask double as variable-zoom binoculars.
Gas Mask: A detachable rebreather and gas filter, this mask has the unfortunate distinction of looking like a grasshopper's mandibles- not a very comforting sight. Doug's working on some less menacing prototypes. He carries around multiple masks for victims

Antennae: Across the suit are a number of trailing segmented tendrils with a dual purpose: The first is as antennae, picking up and transmitting shortwave radio and cellular signals to aid in communication. Secondly, they can pick up the slightest vibration caused by sound, giving him increased hearing ability.
