- All of these notes were written during or after Kokoro route, but before Satoru route. I list down the Day numbers for the entries before I finished the route, but otherwise, watch out for spoilers. There are no spoilers for anything beyond Kokoro route, only speculation.
- ---
- Terminology:
- Kotoru - Satoru in Kokoro's body
- Satkoro - Kokoro in Satoru's body
- CYuni - Cabin Yuni
- FYuni - Facility Yuni
- =====
- Day 1
- =====
- - Day 1. Satkoro gets visited in the bathroom. If Satkoro does not take the sleeping pills prior to that, it leads to a Bad End. Why?
- =====
- Day 2
- =====
- - Day 2. CYuni knows that Kokoro hates cucumbers even though she didn't tell him that. Satkoro only told FYuni about it at breakfast, so CYuni should not have known.
- - Day 2. FYuni mentioned that Kokoro asked him about whether he was a twin, even though that was to CYuni. However, FYuni does not seem to recall how CYuni was talking about the newspaper being real.
- - Day 2. So, what was Utsumi really doing in Satkoro's room? Also, I highly doubt she did touch Satkoro's bloody wound with both her hands, since that would be very odd. Her hands may have been bloody from before.
- =====
- Day 3
- =====
- - Day 3. Hotori mentions a red room. Could she possibly be going through a personality exchange just like Satoru and Kokoro?
- - Day 3. What year is it? Satoru and Utsumi think it's 2012, while everyone else, in both places, seem to think it's 2011. FYuni's radio kept mentioning that it's 2011 (which is pretty suspicious too). I suspect that it's 2011 in the cabin, but 2012 in the facility. If Hotori is going through personality exchanges, it makes sense for her time to be off. Yuni is already really sketchy for various reasons. Dunno about the radio but Yuni could've tampered with it and played recordings.
- - Day 3. FYuni said he never let either Satoru or Kokoro touch TB, despite CYuni explicitly hugging Kokoro with TB in the cabin. It could be that FYuni was only referring to Kokoro as a personality within Satoru, while he did not acknowledge her to be the same as Cabin Kokoro.
- - Random thought: What if Yuni actually experienced the Facility events before the Cabin events somehow? It would explain a lot of his behavior, though not all of it. And of course, the theory itself lacks substantial basis.
- =====
- Day 4
- =====
- - Day 4. Junichi is the name of both Yomogi's and Utsumi's son(s). Probably the same son, i.e. the child of Yomogi and Utsumi.
- - Day 4. Why didn't Yomogi mention the second child, which caused Junichi to become an Onii-chan? Utsumi explicitly mentioned it, but Yomogi did not. In fact, Utsumi didn't seem to be aware that Junichi already passed away...
- - Day 4. Satkoro mentions that the broadcasts in SPHIA might have been controlled to ensure they are suitable for the patients. So the radio broadcasts claiming that it was 2011 could have easily been staged for deception.
- - Day 4. When Satkoro is outside and pursued, breaking into Utsumi's room causes Satkoro to get stabbed in the bathroom. Why would the killer go to Utsumi's bathroom...?
- - Day 4. When running from the pursuer, Satkoro encountered someone with a knife in the basement. This knife looked distinctly different from Yomogi's. Which doesn't mean much, but well, there must be some relevance for Yomogi's knife being portrayed before.
- - Day 4. Some unknown dude was stabbed. Who was he? And who stabbed him? Yuni insists that it wasn't Hotori. But it likely wasn't Utsumi either because she arrived later and she'd have no reason to pretend like she was away since Satoru was there the entire time and only Kokoro would've missed her. So that leaves... Satoru?
- - Speaking of Yuni and Hotori, there was that one scene pre-OP where a girl with short black hair (the timing of the scene implied that it was Keiko) was in some room and she said she was worried she would hurt herself and the people around her, and there was another boy with her who said he would save her. Could that have been Yuni?
- - Day 4. Utsumi's insistence of accusing Hotori of murder is abnormal. It's likely that she bears a grudge against Hotori for killing her son. In fact, her "plans" that she keeps slipping out (to Satoru) might be related to Hotori, possibly revenge?
- =====
- Day 5
- =====
- - Day 5. FYuni ran away from Satkoro. My guess is that the "Pain, pain, fly away to Andromeda" thing reminded him of Kokoro, or that he realized that Kokoro really is inside Satoru's body, which incited him to run away and sort out his thoughts.
- - Day 5. Kotoru ate all the hard tacks and was away from the cabin, what? Was he trying to run away? Even then, why would he eat ALL of the hard tacks? This isn't the first time Kokoro found herself outside the cabin after a switch. Just what is Kotoru up to...?
- - Day 5. FYuni and Hotori being so friendly despite Hotori/Keiko slashing him on the earlier day further implies that they're connected somehow. It is very likely that the pre-OP scene with an unknown boy/girl pair was on Hotori/Keiko and Yuni.
- - Day 5. FYuni received the charm from Utsumi in the Facility, eh? This seems to be consistent with the idea that Yuni experienced the Facility events BEFORE the Cabin events, though there are still inconsistencies.
- - Also, that part pre-OP in the plane where Yuni figured out that Kokoro is 20 years old. His reasoning was flawed but could it have been a coincidence that he got the age right? Or did he actually know more about Kokoro already even back then?
- - Day 5. FYuni accused Satoru of being the one to stab the dude. That seems consistent with his earlier reactions, but it raises the question of why Satoru would kill the dude.
- =====
- Day 6
- =====
- - Day 6. No switching, why? Did something happen that disabled the switching?
- - Day 6. Though Satoru's connection with Lin was blatantly implied ages ago, the extra confirmation made me notice that there's a bijective mapping between the Cabin and SPHIA. Kokoro wanted to meet Hotori/Keiko, Utsumi and Yomogi are married, Satoru and Lin are lovers, and Yuni is the same person. Hotori is further connected to Utsumi and Yomogi as the murderer of their son. I'm pretty sure these connections are not a coincidence.
- =====
- Day 7
- =====
- - Day 7. Still no switching. It may have already ended sometime in Day 5 or 6.
- - Day 7. There were no rescue supplies in location X. Why did they go there then? It better not be some silly time-travel thing where they go to Location X solely because they read that they'll go to Location X while Location X has no actual significance.
- - Day 7. Who was the blonde corpse that Kokoro found? Kokoro didn't recognize it so it couldn't be anyone from the Cabin or the Facility. And I can't think of any female characters that anyone referenced who Kokoro/Satkoro did not meet.
- ===============================
- Epilogue / Post-Kokoro Thoughts
- ===============================
- - Epilogue. Ocean what? They were in a freaking mountain. And Kokoro supposedly crossed the area of the ocean when heading to Location X and there was no ocean. Were the Cabin experiences all some kind of fabricated scenario (like all the other Uchikoshi stories I read)? Still pretty farfetched, given that they went outside multiple times and saw the wreckage and never really got anywhere. It's not as simple as N7, E17, or 999 this time. My guess is that either Kokoro's actual perceptions were altered, or she jumped across time/space to a place that appears to be very similar to the mountain cabin (with Lin and Yuni) while actually being a different place.
- - Epilogue. And then the encounter with Satoru. Despite being in his body a lot, we don't really know much about Satoru. The Satoru in the Epilogue definitely seems to know a lot more about this situation. Whether this was after or before his experiences with body-switching is unknown though. Either way, Satoru's appearance there wasn't a coincidence. He didn't seem to expect to see Kokoro though, so the results of whatever they were plotting probably differed or surpassed expectations. Satoru did say he has to get away, which kinda reminds me of how BlickWinkel told You-haru that the Kid needs to be deceived and must not figure out the truth too early, in order for BlickWinkel's apppearance to not be a paradox. This is probably something similar to that.
- - Trigger for the Good End.
- Kokoro pushed forward at first and then turned back afterwards. Any other option leads to a Dead End. The only significance to this decision set that I can think of is that she completely missed Yomogi. Somehow, by not encountering Yomogi at all after she left, the Good End was triggered and the ocean was revealed.
- - Could the ocean have been fake?
- Not likely, since it makes no sense to toss in a fake component at the very end while it never surfaced throughout the story early. Satoru's behavior seemed legit too, so I'm pretty sure the Epilogue, with the ocean and all, was all real.
- - So what was fake then?
- Rather than "fake", I'd say the experiences weren't exactly as what we might be thinking. Of course, it could be a case that Kokoro is experiencing some fabricated world created by externally messing with her brain, but I doubt that's what it is. I think the key to solving this is to break down the assumptions on time and location. Even when she sleeps in the cabin and wakes up in the cabin, there is no guarantee that those two moments are in the same location (cabin) and within the same timeslot. This would raise inconsistencies with other characters, but they might be faking it, or they might be deceived as well.
- - Is there any physical teleportation then?
- Likely not, since it would complicate things too much and there's very little evidence supporting it. The story seems to suggest that characters' experiences can jump between different bodies and possibly in different timeslots. Stuff like Yuni's knowledge could be due to transferences of that nature too. Hotori might be going through it too.
- If other people also experience some kind of transference, there is no reason to suggest that they transfer within their own bodies. After all, Kokoro and Satoru switched into each other's bodies. Yuni and Hotori may be switching to other bodies too. ...or maybe even each other's bodies?
- - Wait, could Yuni have been meeting himself?
- Possible. For example, CYuni's self might be awakened at Hotori's body, where he meets FYuni, which is himself from the future (or the past, maybe). It would explain some stuff, at least.
- Another possibility is that Yuni might be switching with himself. That is, a Yuni from the past switches with a Yuni from the present. This way, they naturally preserve the same behavior patterns, while each of them can be aware or unaware of events in the other time/place. So it makes sense for CYuni to know about Kokoro's cucumber dislike, or FYuni to know that Kokoro asked him about being a twin/clone, while FYuni doesn't know about the newspaper that CYuni mentions.
- - Speaking of the newspaper, how do you explain that?
- The newspaper is the only evidence imo in which teleportation is a stronger explanation than transferences. With no physical teleportation, the only guesses I have is that the newspaper is either fake (but possibly accurate, set up by someone with future experiences) or that the actual time in the cabin is not Jan 2011. I'm leaning towards the latter. The other characters may have been acting or were also deceived, wrt the date. The Epilogue further suggests that the cabin experience contained some deception to some extent.
- - Could the blonde corpse have been Yomogi?
- ...what? Well, Yomogi left before the corpse was found (probably), and they never saw Yomogi since. Maybe Yomogi's appearance and voice was an illusion that broke upon his death outside, revealing him to be a blonde woman. As crazy as it sounds, I don't have much better ideas about the blonde corpse. It was likely there from very recently, since the snow would have covered it otherwise. Yomogi's complete absence from the Epilogue is definitely suspicious too. It should be worth noting that neither Lin nor Kokoro recall their experiences before they woke up in the cabin, when Yomogi and Yuni supposedly saved them. Also, relating to Yomogi being odd, he was the one who claimed to see the supposed helicopter in Day 5.
- - Is it really Kokoro's perspective that we're seeing in her route?
- Sounds like a dumb question, but it could be a third entity like BlickWinkel who simply believes herself to be Kokoro, while switching between Kokoro's and Satoru's body. She has some memories too, as indicated by some of her reminisching moments. I can vaguely recall a scene where somebody mentioned that they don't have a clear recollection of something in the past but I can't remember if it was Kokoro. Then the real Kokoro's fate is actually unknown. If it's like N7, E17, or 999, then the whole scenario might be set up for the purposes of saving a single individual, which might be the real Kokoro in this case. Yuni would likely cooperate with such an operation.
- - Is it just Kokoro that needs saving?
- Aside from Lin and Yomogi, there's also somebody trying to kill Satoru in SPHIA. All this stuff might also serve the purpose of saving Satoru as well.
- - So who is Satoru?
- Dunno but he seems to have a namecard that lets him access the clock tower in SPHIA. So maybe he works at SPHIA or something. Either way, I'm pretty sure there's more to him than meets the eye.
