@YourDailyMario - Discontinuation Notice

Five years ago, I started a Twitter account with one simple mission - to post a different image of Mario every day. And now, 1,827 Marios later, that mission has come to an end.

When I embarked on this quest, I had no lofty goal. It was just a tiny thing to do each day at a time in my life when I needed that. I never sought a following but I was pleased to see one form over the years and share in the response to each new Mario. This is no credit to myself, but to the artists who have brought him to life for over forty years and the archivists who have kept their work alive for just as long.

Having spent half a decade accumulating images of one character, I have had a lot of time to reflect on what makes Mario MARIO - the constant through his many guises, the essence of his enduring appeal. And the closest I have come to a thesis is that Mario represents "heroism through joy". This is something the world will always need, and something I hope you continue to find each day.

Your Daily Mario may be over, but Mario is not going anywhere - and I can't wait to see what new adventures he has in store.
