- Dear Paper Mario speedrunners. I might not be able to attend to the debate due to timezones (EU), so here is my letter instead of my presence. We're all speedruners. We love this game. We stay for the passion we share with other Paper Mario fans in our community.
- My points on the console split debate:
- - Wii U VC requires more skill to run on, example LZS Jump Log Skip.
- - SM64 has camera lag reduction, and many strategies revolve around that takes a lot of skill. Paper Mario only has one such instance and that is a few seconds of waiting before entering the badge shop.
- - There are a few differences. But what console should be default? Since Wii U takes more skill shouldn't it be default?
- - N64, Wii VC and Wii U VC are all official Nintendo consoles.
- - A console split takes credits away from all the VC runners. If you get a good time on VC it sucks and literately makes VC runners play less.
- - Easier to see new runs (without logging in).
- - Ability to compare across consoles with more players. Console records isn't the same as a real category record and same goes with ranking.
- - We aren't ready to switch console just because of the leaderboard page split. Console preference goes deeper then any webpage.
- - Free bonus: Can possibly add a Duplighost RTA tab (best pace before the last battles) instead of console tabs.
- - The console split debate hurts the community and it's a few N64 players that is the cause of this.
- - The idea that N64 is the better console is proven wrong by the amount of skill that it takes to play on a console like Wii U. There is a reason why some top runners are attracted to Wii U VC and that is because of no BS lag. The choice between N64 and Wii U basically comes down to pick your poison.
- - The notion that it isn't fair that a new console shouldn't be able to compete with an old console because it removes lag and adds skill is counterproductive in addition to that it excludes runners.
- - We should have mods that care about the leaderboard.
- - Pushing polls constantly until the opposition gets too tired is wrong.
- - Mods must represent the community.
- - Trust matters because we need to be able to trust each other and not have to second guess the other's intentions.
- - Remove the mods so we can focus on fun stuff instead. We want to have fun and not have to debate this thing every 2-3 months. I got into speedrunning this game in 2010 and I am an active community member, runner and done runs twice at European Speedrunner Assembly. I humbly ask you guys for trust as a super mod and I will spend my time rebuilding trust. I also happen to have more ideas then just Duplighost RTA--but I wouldn't force it.
- - The way GigaDB and Yoshi_Zilla has been treated is unacceptable.
- Thank you for reading.
