  1. It all started back then. The Final Download. The file that ended the world.
  2.
  3. It wasn't a virus. Well, not one meant to end civilization anyway. No, the world ended because some asshat at the US Missile Command went and downloaded porn to his computer. A computer that controlled the launch of America's nuclear arsenal. Soon enough, the US's missiles launched. MAD protocols were activated, the missiles knocking out power and communication grids across the world. The last transmission was not a message of hope or despair. It was an overheard conversation: "Dave did WHAT?!".

  5. To shield themselves from the atomic fire, people across the world went underground- caves, sewers, old bunkers, mines, you name it, people holed up there. Some protected from the radiation better than others, of course. But the important thing was, humanity had survived. It was several generations before it was safe to come above ground, and the new generations were greeted with untamed wilderness, dotted with ruined cities and overrun by mutants. Neo-Vada was a pristine desert once again, its crown jewel frozen in time by sandstorms. Neo New York 3: The Revenge was overrun by plants and wildlife, as well as sewer mutants. They're a likable enough sort, if you don't mind the smell. The Southeast was surprisingly well-off, since very few missiles actually fell in the region, although the atomic crosswinds make for some odd mutations in the area. The point is, humanity doesn't struggle that much to survive. They have the bunkers, and enough nutrient gruel to sustain them. They want to love, learn, laugh, play in the sun, to create. That's a bit hard when you're buried underground, eating tasteless nutrient gelatin, worried about whether you're going to have to put down a mutant or zombie today.

  7. This is where you, the player, come in- you're a specialist. A cut above the rest. Much of the learning before the war was lost, but you still know something- the technological wonders of SCIENCE! The warm, earthy lessons of AGRICULTURE! The kinship that comes with CIVILIZATION! The strength to protect others through FIGHTING! Whatever your specialty, you've got something needed to make the world a better place. And it's time to put that to use. The time to survive is over- now, it's the time to live.
