- 7:40 PM Feral5x said: i forgot what the third one was but there's definitely been a third mentioned.
- 7:41 PM Aran;Jaeger said: r-mode
- 7:41 PM Aran;Jaeger said: for "reserves"
- 7:41 PM Aran;Jaeger said: x for "x-ray (without resevres being involved)"
- 7:42 PM Aran;Jaeger said: g for "grey/god (bec after more tests it proved to be very powerful)"
- 7:42 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and grey bec of the grey screen and greyout glitch which ejardon named that way years ago without noticing this special case
- 7:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but idk what ELI5 is
- 7:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: leet speak or?
- 7:43 PM Feral5x said: explain like i'm 5. it's from reddit
- 7:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ohh
- 7:43 PM Feral5x said: as in, what are they in simple terms
- 7:43 PM Feral5x said: are they just ways to get oob
- 7:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok thats not so hard to explain
- 7:44 PM Aran;Jaeger said: i´ll get a few videos that showcase those
- 7:44 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and the explain it
- 7:44 PM Feral5x said: ty
- 7:44 PM Feral5x said: i just like to know what people are talking about when those are mentioned.
- 7:45 PM Feral5x said: i saw the gmode plasma video into grey door for plasma. but then suddenly xmode and rmode started being mentioned
- 7:45 PM Aran;Jaeger said: that wasnt g-mode, it was x-mode
- 7:45 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok first of all, taco´s explanation from tasvideos:
- 7:46 PM Aran;Jaeger said: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=550&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=5200
- 7:46 PM Aran;Jaeger said: Isn't the full story. I don't think the situations that cause the glitch to occur are fully understood yet, but also relevant here is 7E0B36. This address keeps track of whether Samus is on the ground (0), rising (1), or falling (2). Normally, activating a shinespark sets it to 1, but everything that has caused this glitch to occur keeps that address at 2 for the duration of the shinespark wind-up. It just so happens that the address is forced to be 2 after the hurt timer (7E188A) reaches 0, but that's not all there is to it; if it were, it would be possible to damage boost back for a frame or two and then activate the spark while still in the air. Landing first is a requirement here, for some reason. The normal way of performing the glitch - unmorphing after taking damage from a spike - kind of imitates landing, hence why that works.
- 7:46 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ^ this part
- 7:47 PM total said: that's not really a correct analysis of the spikespark thing though
- 7:47 PM Aran;Jaeger said: well ok
- 7:47 PM Aran;Jaeger said: then explain it :3
- 7:47 PM total said: it actually doesn't explain at all what happens
- 7:47 PM total said: and why it happens 😄
- 7:47 PM Aran;Jaeger said: well but..
- 7:47 PM Aran;Jaeger said: starting the spark and ending of the knokcback frames
- 7:47 PM Aran;Jaeger said: those both would change its value
- 7:47 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if it happens at the same rame i´ve been told
- 7:47 PM Aran;Jaeger said: it will stay there
- 7:48 PM total said: yes that is true
- 7:48 PM total said: but yeah, I even posted the more detailed explanation in the thread
- 7:48 PM total said: "I did some debugging on this shinespark glitch and what happens is that a code pointer (7E0A58) gets set to the wrong value while in the shinespark pose. Normally when you start a shinespark that pointer gets set to use code that deals with shinesparking.
- But when we start a shinespark at the same time as the "knockback timer" (7E18AA) runs out and while the "knockback direction" (7E0A52) is above zero, the game will run code to clean up the knockback state.
- This code runs after the shinespark initiation code and one of the things it does is reset the code pointer (7E0A58) to point to "normal movement code". This then makes the game not really able to handle the "waiting to start a shinespark" pose and samus will just sit there. "
- 7:49 PM total said: And the same bug happens for x-mode, where the knockback cleanup code runs after x-ray has started, and sets the wrong pose
- 7:49 PM Aran;Jaeger said: is the knockback direction really relevant?
- 7:49 PM total said: it's not relevant more than the fact that it has to be something else than 0
- 7:50 PM total said: that's pretty much the reason mid-air "spikespark" doesn't work
- 7:50 PM total said: landing early will preserve that value, but cancelling d-boost mid-air won't
- 7:50 PM total said: if I remember correctly
- 7:52 PM Aran;Jaeger said: basically, in x-mode, samus can "freely" move or at least change her poses while x-raying
- 7:53 PM Aran;Jaeger said: it is some restricted movement though
- 7:53 PM total said: yeah, and that's because the game is running at least some code for samus as she was runnning about normally and not x-raying
- 7:53 PM Aran;Jaeger said: one cant move upwards or downwards much. a jump will get samus´ position a bit higher but thats it
- 7:54 PM Feral5x said: because xray can adjust values or something i heard?
- 7:54 PM total said: There's a lot of different handling for poses and stuff, and that value is just one of them
- 7:54 PM total said: x-ray can corrupt memory yes, but this has nothing to do with that
- 7:55 PM Feral5x said: ok

- Samus X-Ray the world. [ Super Metroid ]
- 7:55 PM Aran;Jaeger said: this video by ftp shows both, spikespark and x-mode
- 7:55 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and sparking in x-mode i think
- 7:56 PM Aran;Jaeger said: whenever he unmorphs on spikes in that video (frame perfectly)
- 7:56 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and uses x-ray while he can move. thats x-mode
- 7:56 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and he tries out all kinds of movement
- 7:56 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so thats what one can do during x-mode
- 7:56 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but in the other video he shinesparks upwards in x-mode at the plasma beach room
- 7:57 PM Aran;Jaeger said: during the spark in x-mode, he moves upwards with normal sparking speed BUT
- 7:57 PM Aran;Jaeger said: generally whenever a diag or vertical spark is executed, there is some "speed" variable and its value will increase roughly like this: 7,14,21,28,...
- 7:58 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but samus will not use this speed for her upwards movement during a spark
- 7:58 PM Aran;Jaeger said: now during the x-mode spark, for every spakring frame, roughly 7 is added to this value
- 7:58 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but not used
- 7:58 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but as soon as one releases x-ray
- 7:58 PM Aran;Jaeger said: samus will use this value for her upwards movement
- 7:58 PM Aran;Jaeger said: meaning if one did spark 3 frames in x-mode upwards, and then releases x-ray
- 7:58 PM Aran;Jaeger said: samus will have gained roughly 21 upwards speed
- 7:59 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and will when x-mode ends in falling pose move upwards with 21 pixels per frame speed
- 7:59 PM Aran;Jaeger said: 16 pixels is the size of a block

- 8:01 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so this is x-mode movement and superjumps (x-mode sparks)
- 8:01 PM Aran;Jaeger said: now for R-Mode and G-Mode
- 8:01 PM Aran;Jaeger said: g-mode is just a special case of r-mode but has its own properties
- 8:03 PM Aran;Jaeger said: to obtain the r-mode state, one needs x-ray and reserve tanks
- 8:03 PM Feral5x said: that's the video i've seen. slope spark super jump thing
- 8:03 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and one has to have x-ray iceon green while walking/running into some transition
- 8:03 PM Aran;Jaeger said: thats not a slopespark though ...
- 8:03 PM Aran;Jaeger said: a slopespark is 1 variant of spikespark
- 8:03 PM Aran;Jaeger said: i think you have seen spikespark though befoe, right?
- 8:04 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the thing is that x-mode setups are flashsuit setups and vice versa in most cases, but not always
- 8:04 PM Aran;Jaeger said: both use the same thing that tewtal explained before
- 8:05 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but abuse it in different ways
- 8:05 PM Aran;Jaeger said: in the flahsuit setup, one jumps in that "magic" frame
- 8:05 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if one wanted to get x-mode instead, one uses x-ray in that frame

- 8:07 PM Aran;Jaeger said: this here is a video of slopespark
- 8:08 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but now back to r-mode. for r-mode one enters a transition with low hp and auto reserves and x-ray iceon green
- 8:08 PM Aran;Jaeger said: as soon as samus touches a transition, the enemies in that room still can move around for a few frames, but smaus cant
- 8:08 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and an enemy can touch samus during that
- 8:09 PM Aran;Jaeger said: or if it is a metroid, it can suck some hp out of samus during it
- 8:09 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but the damage will be dealt in the next room at the 1st frame in which smaus can do something
- 8:09 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and if one starts x-raying in that 1st frame while in the same frame the reserves kick in
- 8:09 PM Aran;Jaeger said: which normally isnt possible
- 8:10 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and then continues to hold X-Ray until the reserve refill ends
- 8:10 PM Feral5x said: yeah i've used spike spark. just catching up after watching the videos.
- 8:10 PM Feral5x said: i'm gonna have to re-read all of this to get my head around it lol
- 8:10 PM Aran;Jaeger said: then some code that normally runs when the x-raying state is ended, wont run (i think)
- 8:10 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so the game in some sense still thinks smaus is x-raying
- 8:11 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but enemies can move in that state
- 8:11 PM Aran;Jaeger said: in r-mode, there is almost nothing special
- 8:11 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the screen is a bit darker
- 8:11 PM Feral5x said: so is bowling skip r mode?
- 8:11 PM Aran;Jaeger said: no
- 8:11 PM Aran;Jaeger said: thats a different thing again >_>
- 8:12 PM Kojakt said: Lol
- 8:12 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok... you know x-ray climb
- 8:12 PM Feral5x said: yes
- 8:12 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if samus releases x-ray (dash button)
- 8:12 PM Aran;Jaeger said: in crouch pose or in standing pose
- 8:12 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the releasing of x-ray will not change her pose
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but if one releases dash in a non static pose
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: like the turnaround in crouch pose
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: then the game will put samus into standing pose
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: thats what we call a "force stand"
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: an event that forces a pose upon samus
- 8:13 PM Feral5x said: so you go up a pixel each time
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: which is an important event for a lot of things
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: well no
- 8:13 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok...
- 8:14 PM Aran;Jaeger said: in when samus force stands
- 8:14 PM Aran;Jaeger said: then her bodybox will extend from the bodybox she had in the previous crouch pose
- 8:14 PM Aran;Jaeger said: to the new larger bodybox that she has in standing pose BUT
- 8:14 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the lowest pisel row of samus´ bodybox
- 8:14 PM Aran;Jaeger said: will stay at the same height
- 8:15 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the action that shifts samus upwards
- 8:15 PM Aran;Jaeger said: is not the force stand
- 8:15 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but the crouching
- 8:15 PM Aran;Jaeger said: namely..
- 8:15 PM Aran;Jaeger said: samus has a bodycenter, which is her CF center and which is what one would see in ram watch bec a certain memory address shows the position (height in the room and another memory address the horizontal position)
- 8:16 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and when samus crouches, then her bodybox will shrink
- 8:16 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the size will decrease and the way the box shrinks is by shrinking from samus´ top and bottom the same amount of pixels
- 8:16 PM Aran;Jaeger said: it always contracts to the center
- 8:16 PM Aran;Jaeger said: vertical height center of the body
- 8:17 PM Aran;Jaeger said: in SMILE editor one cna even change samu height/size for some poses for which one likes to do so
- 8:17 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but if one increase her size, then the number of pixels part of smaus´ body box
- 8:17 PM Aran;Jaeger said: that are beneath samus´ CF center
- 8:17 PM Aran;Jaeger said: will always be the same as above it
- 8:17 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so in the force-stand, samus stays at the same height
- 8:18 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but when crouching, then her bodybox contracts to the center
- 8:18 PM Aran;Jaeger said: which causes samus´ lowest row of pixels part of her bodybox to be a bit higher up in the wall
- 8:18 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and then the next force stand will just allow samus to crouch again
- 8:18 PM Aran;Jaeger said: or well...
- 8:19 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the force stand will cause samus´ bottom row of pixels to stay at the smae hight
- 8:19 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but the size of her bodybox will be larger
- 8:19 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and her center bec of that will be higher up
- 8:19 PM Aran;Jaeger said: meaning when the bodybox gets contracted again
- 8:19 PM Aran;Jaeger said: she will move upwards a bit
- 8:19 PM Feral5x said: ok
- 8:19 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok good
- 8:20 PM Feral5x said: yeah
- 8:20 PM Aran;Jaeger said: now for bolwing skip
- 8:20 PM Aran;Jaeger said: actually its not that hard to explain
- 8:20 PM Aran;Jaeger said: all one basically needs to know is
- 8:20 PM Aran;Jaeger said: when reserves kick in and the reserve refill ends
- 8:21 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the game always will "force" the game to allow samus to move freely
- 8:21 PM Aran;Jaeger said: or well not in all cases
- 8:21 PM Aran;Jaeger said: rainbow beam. if during rainbow beam reserve refill ends, smaus wont be able to move freely
- 8:22 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but in a lot of other cases, the end of the reserve energy refill will allow samus to move freely
- 8:22 PM Aran;Jaeger said: for example if the reserves kick in during an elevator ride...

- 8:23 PM goop.Q said: "A simple anwser" -The new book by Dr.ED
- 8:23 PM Aran;Jaeger said: i gain control of smaus even though smaus was previously put into a static centered standfing pose
- 8:23 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok at the bowling statue
- 8:23 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the statue is an enemy
- 8:23 PM Aran;Jaeger said: one can kago into it
- 8:23 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but if one plays around there, oen will notice
- 8:23 PM Aran;Jaeger said: that one cant move into her hand
- 8:23 PM Aran;Jaeger said: that is bec at her hand, a special block, a solid one, is located
- 8:24 PM Feral5x said: so you're controlling samus up the elevator?
- 8:24 PM Aran;Jaeger said: all this block does is to grab samus and keep samus in place as ball, when she is on top of it as ball
- 8:24 PM Aran;Jaeger said: well in SMILE
- 8:24 PM Aran;Jaeger said: one can see that above the elevator, in the shaft
- 8:24 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the shaft is 2 air tiles wide
- 8:24 PM Aran;Jaeger said: then there is 2 coloumns of solid blcks, left one and to the right one
- 8:24 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so i cant move through those
- 8:25 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and the elevator will cause smaus to keep rising up
- 8:25 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so i can only change poses (like morph or unmorph etc)
- 8:25 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and move a bit left and right
- 8:25 PM Feral5x said: aah ok.
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok so at bowling statue´s hand is a special solid block
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: that would hinder free movement
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but when reserve refill ends
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: one can break out
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: now all one has to do/manage
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: is to let the reserves kick in after getting grabbed by that block
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: which is done via manual reserves, pause abuse
- 8:26 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and then turning the reserves on in the menu after getting grabbed
- 8:27 PM Aran;Jaeger said: after the reserve refill, samus will be able to freely change poses
- 8:27 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the same can be done at the spacejump statue in lower norfair
- 8:27 PM Feral5x said: ok
- 8:27 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but there is an additional thing
- 8:27 PM Feral5x said: i get what's happening there
- 8:27 PM Feral5x said: but does the room state change?
- 8:27 PM Aran;Jaeger said: namely the game will in the bowling statue´s case teleport samus constantly to the moving statue´s hand´s location
- 8:27 PM Feral5x said: to allow you down the spikes(edited)
- 8:28 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so that it looks like it carries the ball
- 8:28 PM Aran;Jaeger said: yes
- 8:28 PM Aran;Jaeger said: with a hitbox viewer, one can see that at some point during the grabbing animation
- 8:28 PM Aran;Jaeger said: some blocks to the left (spike blocks mostly)
- 8:28 PM Aran;Jaeger said: will change to air blocks
- 8:29 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the statue is just like a normal enemy
- 8:29 PM Aran;Jaeger said: it cant move through solid blocks either
- 8:29 PM Aran;Jaeger said: same as bosses cant
- 8:29 PM Aran;Jaeger said: (depending on the boss)
- 8:29 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but in SMILE one can choose if an enemy can move through objects or not
- 8:29 PM Aran;Jaeger said: refill bugs can
- 8:29 PM Aran;Jaeger said: hoppers not... and so on
- 8:30 PM Aran;Jaeger said: some enemies are more tricky in that regard
- 8:30 PM Aran;Jaeger said: like ridley can sometiems move into the wall but at other animations it cant
- 8:30 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and after the bowling state arrives down there
- 8:30 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the spike blocks will spawn there again
- 8:30 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and the solid blocks beneath the spike blocks too
- 8:31 PM Feral5x said: oh, i never even thought to try to get back up
- 8:31 PM Aran;Jaeger said: ok back to r-mode
- 8:31 PM Aran;Jaeger said: screen is grey, x-rays finishing code isnt executed yet
- 8:32 PM Aran;Jaeger said: bec it was interrupted by the reserve tanks refilling and reserve refill ending before x-ray was released
- 8:32 PM Aran;Jaeger said: now smaus can move around freely in r-mode
- 8:32 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but as i explained before (in some rough manner)
- 8:32 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the game does a force-stand
- 8:32 PM Aran;Jaeger said: like for x-ray climb
- 8:33 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if samus isnt in crouch or standing pose whenthe code for exiting the scanning state runs
- 8:33 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so if one in r-mode (where everything is absolutely normal, enemies work and respawn and produce drops, gates work and doors and all thatt)
- 8:34 PM Aran;Jaeger said: except that the room is a bit darker (as if smaus was still x-raying)
- 8:34 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so if one farms hp back
- 8:34 PM Aran;Jaeger said: to fill the reserves a bit
- 8:34 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and then lets the reserves kick in again
- 8:34 PM Aran;Jaeger said: then in that moment, the final part for x-ray´s code will run (as far as i understand it, tewtal would tell me wrong anyways, but it is mainly about to get an idea for it)
- 8:35 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and that is when the game does a force-stand
- 8:35 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so the interesting part here is
- 8:35 PM Aran;Jaeger said: that one in the room can choose when the reserves shall kick in, and where smaus shal be and in what pose
- 8:35 PM Aran;Jaeger said: (in which the force-stand code shall then happen)
- 8:36 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and this can be abused in rpe botwoon room for example
- 8:36 PM Aran;Jaeger said: by obtaining r-mode for pre-botwoon room and then farming a bit hp back
- 8:36 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so one has some reserves and then letting a mocktroid drain samus´ hp
- 8:36 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and then jumping and morphing on the way up beneath the ceiling that one clips through with ice beam normally
- 8:37 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and then when the ball moves up and is close to the ceiling
- 8:37 PM Aran;Jaeger said: the mocktroid shall do its final hit so that reserves kick in
- 8:37 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and the force stand happens and samus´ head is past the ceiling
- 8:37 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and will keep her upwards speed from before
- 8:37 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and can break the crumbles
- 8:38 PM Aran;Jaeger said: or one can also use this force-stand to interrupt a CF or a spark
- 8:38 PM Aran;Jaeger said: in those cases, samus will gain flahssuit or blueusit respectively
- 8:38 PM Aran;Jaeger said: also to note: if one exits a room in r-mode, then the r-mode state is lost
- 8:38 PM Aran;Jaeger said: now finally for g-mode
- 8:38 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if one releases Dash button for holding X-ray
- 8:39 PM Aran;Jaeger said: it will take about 4 frames until normal game play continues again
- 8:39 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so there is a few frames during which samus will stil x-ray for a bit even though dash button was released already
- 8:39 PM Aran;Jaeger said: this is the frame window one normally has
- 8:39 PM Aran;Jaeger said: for releasing Dash button during a R-Mode setup
- 8:40 PM Aran;Jaeger said: such that the reserve enrgy refill ends during one of those frames (where dahs is already released but gameplay doesnt start yet)
- 8:40 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if one does this, then one will have the r-mode´s propertties for the current room only
- 8:41 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but additionally, doors cannot be opened, nor gates, and enemies when killed wont show explosions and wont produce drops (yet)
- 8:41 PM Aran;Jaeger said: g-mode is exited/cacnelled when using x-ray 1 more time after the setup
- 8:42 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if an enemy was killed in g-mode, then its drop(s) will spawn after x-ray was used after the g-mode srtup
- 8:42 PM Aran;Jaeger said: basically, the time stands still for all environmental things
- 8:42 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but not for smaus nor enemies
- 8:42 PM Aran;Jaeger said: if one enters a new room oin g-mode, then the r-mode´s force stand property is lost
- 8:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: but g-mode´s property is kept
- 8:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: so if one enters a new room in g-mode, lets say a room that has a gate
- 8:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: then the gate will not spawn (yet)
- 8:43 PM Aran;Jaeger said: it will spawn in one uses x-ray in that room
- 8:44 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and other PLMs wot work/exist
- 8:44 PM Aran;Jaeger said: like items for example
- 8:44 PM Aran;Jaeger said: and i notice
- 8:44 PM Aran;Jaeger said: that i really really should work on my compendium
