TIFU by pepper spraying myself

Technically it was yesterday, but here's the story. We've been on quarantine and staying home, but we have let my oldest son's girlfriend come and visit every once in a while. She came over and set her keys on the kitchen counter, then they went downstairs to hang out. A little later, I got up from the recliner and went to the kitchen. I saw her keys lying there, but for some reason thought they were my wife's. They both have tons of dangling key chains and sparkly doohickeys. A sparkly canister of hand sanitizer hung from the keys, so I helped myself. I sprayed a generous portion of "sanitizer" in my hands before realizing it wasn't sanitizer. Even after I sprayed it, and it didn't come out like sanitizer (it was a pressurized stream) and didn't look like hand sanitizer, it didn't click right away. I smelled it, and was immediately overcome with the overpowering aroma of pepper spray. My wife came up behind me, her eyes started burning, and she screams, "WTF are you doing, that's pepper spray?!" Welp, I go over to the sink wash my hands as well as I think I have to, then rub my beard and face- why did I do that??? Next thing I know my eyes and whole face is burning. The kitchen filled up with pepper spray, burning the noses and eyes of everyone in the house. Afterwards, we all had a good laugh at my mistake. I ended up having to shower for like 45 minutes before the burning stopped.

TL;DR Grabbed a bottle of pepper spray thinking it was hand sanitizer. Pain followed.
