  1. So much for a hunch. Fresh gallons of helicopter fuel wasted on a round trip from the oil rig to Mistralton City. Alex was back in that same steely briefing room once again.
  2. "YOU DID WHAT?"
  3. "I DON'T- don't th-think that MCA would know it was us." The young guard was scared. A bead of sweat rolled from his forehead, down the left side of his nose, and touched onto a lends of his tightly worn glasses.
  4. "You BLEW UP Macro Cosmos property while going after the suspect?"
  5. "It was an accident-"
  6. "Of course it was an accident-", the boy's speech grew in haste and volume, "-that doesn't mean it won't be a nightmare for our lawyers."
  7. "Pfft, that stupid trucker won't remember our faces, anyway."
  8. "There was a witness?". The boy was more upset at their failure to capture the quarry rather than the damages caused, anyway.
  9. "We did get th-this, however." The young guard held up the SIM card that Silas had so graciously given him.
  10. "Hm. Ah. So this is where my memories were lingering." Alex held the SIM card close to his lips, gently whispering to it, "Glad to have you back, Selene. Good to have you back...", he then turned his eyes back up to the young guard, then asking, "Where's Carl?"
  11. The bearded man chugged along the steel hallway. He was quite rotund, but such generally did not detract from his capabilities. Standing at five foot six, and at about forty years old, men like him should be married and having kids by now. His circumstances had other plans for him, however, so here he was, continuing a semblance of his failed Pokemon Journey under Heriot Security Services. It was the first time in a while he had failed, but maybe it wasn't all his fault. Or, maybe it was, maybe he was just getting too old for this shit.
  12. "So much for CRAMORANT", Alex said to no one in particular.
  13. "You wanted, me sir?", the bearded man said as he opened the door.
  14. "Where are the others?"
  15. "Shittin' bricks-", Carl bluntly answered, taking a very brief pause, "-they don't know what the hell to do, letting a goddamn Volbeat get away". Carl went to his seat. Alex set the SIM card on the table.
  16. Richter and the other guards slowly entered, in a formation resembling a single file line. They took their seats.
  17. Alex, in a voice feigning calmness, asked the room, "Would someone care to tell me what the fuck happened?"
  18. "He got away."
  19. "I can see that. You also blew a hole into a Macro Cosmos trailer."
  20. Seemingly in retaliation for Alex's earlier death-shrieking, the young guard belted out, "We were THIS close!"
  21. "So much for CRAMORANT."
  22. Alex gave a sigh. "Okay, new plan. I have a Vikavolt that one of you can use to capture it. I would have initially chosen Corviknight, but it's a lot bigger and this kind of mission doesn't take kindly to size. So, we're going to try this again, except this time, we'll do it better. Richter, you take Carl again and search for him, only this time you go to Nimbasa, and down to Castelia if he's not there. You'll be on the lookout, and, if you see him, you'll stay within range, send out Vikavolt to grab the Volbeat using Crunch then run with it. And run for the hills until we can get a roadblock set up somewhere, where we'll catch him. He'll be completely unarmed, and then you can just throw him in the van and bring him to me. Try to avoid any run-ins with Macro Cosmos, this time."
  23. "Wait, why do you still want to capture him?", the young guard asked.
  24. Alex shot him a glare. "I have a feeling that this guy may still be looking for something else. I haven't inspected the SIM card yet, but, Carl was right. This guy is a middleman. But who knows what other people he might have connections to? Maybe we might find something useful that's not on here. I'll inspect the SIM card and call you guys later-"
  25. A moment of silence passed.
  26. "-Actually, you're right. We'll still keep this plan, but, hold on for a second, this might come up with some useful information. Information that might make this catch easier. No one move a muscle."
  27. Alex, still standing for a moment, contemplated just what he may find inside, besides the recovered contents of his old Poketech. He slowly turned around and opened the briefing room door before turning left and once again going down the steel hallway.
  28. “Do you think he’s going through something? He seems pretty upset.”
  29. “I hear he stored a bunch of pictures on that thing. Important ones. Not just of his mother, but of some other things. Don’t know what they are. Hugo, maybe we can get a glimpse once he brings back the laptop.”
  30. “Wh-what if he gets mad?”
  31. “He’ll be too busy looking for whatever the hell that scoundrel has in his message logs to notice. Not like they have any relevance to us anyways. But don’t you ever get curious? We see quite a bit of the big man, not so much about his son. It’s not every day that we get called upon.”
  32. “Richter, I think he’s coming back.”
  33. The boy entered the room again.
  34. “So! Let’s see just what’s in store for us”, he said as he hooked up the old Poketech to the laptop, subsequently pushing in the SIM card, “let’s see just who this scoundrel really is.”
