Reasoning: Despite almost having everyone turn on her for the stunt she did with Astor, Thea has kept her composure. Also even after almost dying to Astor's blade after his rampage, She was lucky to be alive despite almost bleeding out. However, he let her live so that she may use her life for him. Which, she offered to get stronger. In any way.

So she took it upon herself to gain a grimoire. Specifically a scissor blade. Her Senketsu called out and said it was the best weapon for them. However, after receiving it, it was still not enough. She was still fairly behind everyone else. She sought to find Kaldwin and attain the same vampiric power he had, seeing as he was related to her Senketsu by a margin. With how her Kamui "sucked" her blood out of her to give her power. She felt the same would be good for her. Although, it was stated that she would need a sacrifice of some sort to obtain that. Giving out their freedom to Kaldwin so he could empower with that freedom. It was a heavy situation.

But instead of seeking out power through other means. She used her determination and patience of the day she has to battle her sister come. Whenever that day did, she wanted to be prepared.
