You can see the sun setting through the window of your shack. You can barely feel their heat anymore as they land on your frail body. Your breath hitches, and it becomes evident that these will be the last few breaths you’ll take.

“Anon…” Her hand tightens around yours.

You look to your right, and see the red haired zombie beside you, looking towards the ground. Even after the 30 odd years you’d spent together, she hadn’t aged one bit. A patchwork of flesh, a frankenstein, a corpse that shouldn’t be. A perfect fit for an outcast with no desire for the living.

“I’ll stay strong Anon… I’ll keep our promise...”

You feel the overwhelming urge to close your eyes and drift off to sleep, but you try to stay awake a little longer. You move your hand to her cheek.

“I’m sure… You’ll find someone better…” You manage a faint smile.

She doesn’t reply, and you feel her tremble in your hand. With the last vestiges of your strength, you pull her head closer to yours, giving her a parting kiss.

You close your eyes and let yourself fall asleep. You hear her shaky voice calling out your name.

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m-”

You wake up.

You don’t need to look down at yourself to know what happened.

“I- I couldn’t! I couldn’t do it Anon! And now I’ve dragged you down with me! Stupid, selfish, ins-”

You pull her into a hug, stopping her from continuing further. You hold her tight.

You are now damned to an eternal life. But you are damned alongside her.
