- >"Daddy, what are you doing?"
- "Your mother, sweetie. Now go back to bed."
- >Lyra bats at you with her forehoof, and frowns.
- "What? It's not like she hasn't seen us before."
- >"She's never had it explained before. And I made lunch, so it's your turn."
- >Letting out a sigh, you drop Lyra's legs from your shoulders, and stop pumping.
- >Both of you are content to lie there, draped on each other, with you clenched inside her.
- >You reach up, and wipe a lock of sweat-drenched hair out of your face, trying to think how to explain it to your daughter.
- "Hope... You know how some people have babies, and some don't? Like the Cakes have Pound and Pumpkin, but Pinkie and Dash only have Gummy."
- >She nods, bright green hair dancing behind her head.
- >The blue peg is glowing in the dim light, whilst the red seems almost black.
- "And me and mummy have you, don't we?"
- >Another nod.
- "What do me and mummy have in common with Mr and Mrs Cake?"
- >Her face scrunches up in thought, and you take the chance to pull out, drawing the covers up.
- >"You're married?"
- "Almost, sweetie. But so are Pinkie and Dash, remember?"
- >She bites her lip, and scratches at her head, eyebrows furrowed.
- >"I dunno then."
- "Well I'm a boy, and so is Mr Cake."
- >Hope claps, and lets out a laugh.
- >"And Mrs Cake and Mummy are both girls! And so are Miss Pinkie and Miss Dash!"
- >You smile at her, and go to pat her on the head, before thinking better of it, and wiping your hand on the bedsheet instead.
- "That's right. And when a mummy and a daddy love each other very much, they have the special hugs like you just saw me and Mummy doing."
- >"I love you too daddy!"
- >Lyra glares at you, then switches her glare to Hope.
- >And back to you again.
- >She never really got over Bonnie's affair.
- "I love you too, sweetie. But we're not married, so we shouldn't have special hugs. And you're my little girl, aren't you?"
- >Hope sighs, and pouts.
- "And sometimes, when the mummy and daddy are having a special hug, they'll deliberately cast a spell, so they can have a baby."
- >You don't look at Lyra for the next bit, making sure to keep your gaze focused on your daughter.
- "But mummy and daddy should both know about the spell, because otherwise it can be a really big shock!"
- >Hope gasps, and brings her hands to her face.
- >"Like when the creepy bug lady came to town?"
- "Sort of. Because everyone was surprised, weren't they dear?"
- >Lyra is furious, and slips out of bed, stomping downstairs.
- >She's probably going to ge-
- >SLAM
- >In that mood, she's probably going out to get another hay/vodka-shake.
- >Or four.
- >Not that she's got a drinking problem.
- >Just a bit of one fitting into her old clothes.
- "Now c'mere, and give your daddy a big night-night kiss, eh?"
- >She skips over, and smooches you on the cheek.
- >A quick peck on hers, and she scurries off to bed.
- >With a sigh, you reach out, and undo the latch on your bedside cabinet.
- >Lyra won't be back until tomorrow, so there's plenty of time for you and Miss September...
- >"DAAAAAAADDDDD! I WANNA STORRRRYYYYYYYY"
- >Or a bedtime story.
- >Because no matter how bad life gets as a married man,
- >You'll always have Hope
