  1. "His name means Double Black, but that isn't reflected in his jump height" pretty funny
  2. I'm glad that he points out that the cel-shading thing is misinformation, but if he wanted to meet those ill-informed hack losers half way, the technique they are thinking about, that Namco could have used (but didn't) was referred to as ramp shading.
  3. as a means to design shadow into the textures rather than just leave it entirely to the global lighting which can cause games to randomly look like shit like really before ramp shading I don't know how people lived without ramp shading, disgusting, it's just absolutely disgusting, how could you be so comfortable with not having absolute control over your lighting, are you a hack, you're just a fucking hack and I gave you my money? fuck you fuck you fuck you-
  4. I appreciate that someone else realizes that the snowboarding parts are the only good gameplay elements, the overall world design is nice, but it's not as particularly fun to play as often as the boarding segments, which crush it, 100% of the time.
  5. I think he's giving the plot way too much credit, but he's at least not making it out to be something that it's not, just moreso musing on
  6. "what could have been, if this wasn't a game for babies" After emulating it, I did lament that when I had a chance to buy Klonoa 2 instead of Wrath of Cortex, I chose Crash.
  7. But now that I'm older, the real moral of the story is that even immoral art like :retch: 'Mascot Platformers' can be art worth making as long as it's done well - and that Franchising is a natural reaction to economic success - nobody makes 20 of a Game because it failed so hard that it fell on it's ass and pissed itself, they make 20 of something because people actually liked it, and there might be people who like working on it (moreso when they're getting paid, and can maintain a healthy worklife balance) so more of it is what people get.
  8. I don't really understand people who try to force enjoyment and appreciation of a work just because 'they' like it and it seems like it's not that popular with the wider world, like it's fine to erich the world around you with the knowledge of the unknown, but some people really just border on religious fanaticism, and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that kind of stuff rubs me the wrong way.
  9. There's nothing wrong with looking back fondly at the times that came before, but eventually you gotta move on - put all of that other stuff behind you, not so much as throw it away, but stop serving the mythos of fiction and let the mythos of fiction serve you - if a Series that you love is gone, like gone gone - and all efforts to reclaim it have been for naught, then there's nothing stopping you from maybe, making your own spin on the thing. and learning what it was that made it seem unappealing to other people's sensibilities, Update it, improve it. You're not "defacing the legacy of the original work" you're making it better and making it yours, and if you're successful, that's your grand opportunity to tell everyone about the work that inspired what they 'now' appreciate,
  10. and that man's name was Chase GeeGee, but to his friends and close confidants, Che Guevara
