- "... and I'll give it to you if you tell me what's inside." Evelia wiggled the cup of healing fluid invitingly.
- The neo-Nazi coughed.
- "Fine. ...seven guards, all armed. One with a rocket launcher for ... serious threats, like you. And the weapon itself, it'll be manned."
- "The weapon." Her eyes flickered to the chalice in her hand. "More details, please."
- "Armour plating. Artillery cannon. Slits for gunners. Tank treads. It is a tank, basically. Home-made."
- She tipped the cup wordlessly, splattering him and watching as his wounds began to close. Then she pulled out a foot-long blade and held it under his chin, her hand high up the meter-long handle.
- "Now, you have a choice. Go home and rethink your life, now your little ... group ... is gone. Cops might find you. Or stick around, turn yourself in, get some more medical attention for anything lingering, tell the cops everything and get a reduced sentence."
- He opened his mouth to respond, but she was already striding toward the fire-entrance.
- ***
- The first thing he hadn't mentioned was that one of the guards was at the fire-entrance door.
- >Initiative rolls: Scarlet 14+4, Guards 14+1, Heavy Weapons 10+1, Tank 1+1
- Primed to retaliate if he tried anything, the heroine stabbed the Nazi in the chest
- >Attack roll: 2+4 vs 10+5(Parry)
- but he was fast enough to leap backward out of the way. Trained. He called out "Intruder! Powered!" and leveled his rifle at her.
- >Attack roll: 20+5 vs 10+4(Parry)
- >Damage reduction: 2+4(Toughness) vs 15+10. 3 damage. Total: -1, staggered
- The blast caught her right in the face. *Well-trained,* she thought. *Or just lucky...* Her reflexive retaliatory swipe to return the favour to its originator caught nothing but air - he had retreated out of range before making the attack.
- >Round 2
- Blinking blood out of her eyes, she switched mental priorities. She'd need to be proactive if she wanted to get healed, against an opponent who was trying to play keep-away.
- She charged forward, reaching to tag his face.
- >Attack roll: 18+8-2(charge) vs 10+5(Parry)
- >Damage reduction: 14+2(Toughness) vs 15+12. 3 damage. Total: -1, staggered
- >Healing roll: 16+10 vs 10. Totally healed.
- *An eye for an eye,* Evie thought, the old cliche rattling through her mind for the thousandth time.
- The villain took a swipe at her himself. He, however, was unpowered.
- >Attack roll: 7+5 vs 10+4(Parry)
- Nor did he have the heroine's practice at fighting while injured. He missed miserably.
- >Round 3
- Evie struck out with her decorated spear, then ducked low.. A second thing her prisoner had failed to mention - the warehouse was very exposed, with only the walkway around the edges she was on and a large open space below.
- >Attack roll: 8+4 vs 10+5(Parry)
- Even injured, the guard managed to scramble out of the way and kick out at her again.
- >Attack roll: 4+5 vs 10+4(Parry)
- >Round 4
- Not a very good kick, but it's the thought that counts. Frustrated, she let the spear drop so it sliced across her palm and made a grab for the offending leg.
- >Attack roll: 9+8 vs 10+5(Parry)
- >Damage reduction: 11+2(Toughness)-1 vs 15+12. 3 damage. Total: incapacitated
- The cut transferred to his Achilles tendon, then slithered up his leg to his spine and she maintained her grip.
- The heroine stuffed the Nazi's unresisting sleeve in his mouth as a makeshift gag, relieved him of his rifle and collected herself. The spear returned to her belt and was replaced by a small iron nail clutched tightly in one hand.
- Crouching low, she peeked over the edge of the walkway at the warehouse below. Panicked Nazis were scurrying like ants, looking directionlessly around or hurrying to try and find her. One in particular, toting a large rocket launcher in one hand, was scanning the walkway for her with a glare as he waited below.
- Time to oblige him. She hopped over the edge of the railing with a single smooth movement.
- >Damage reduction: 2+8(Toughness) vs 15+5. 2 damage. Total: -1, dazed
- >Initiative rolls: Scarlet 9+4, Guards 16+1, Heavy Weapons 20+1, Tank 7+1
- Once again, she had underestimated how much the Nazis had been planning for this moment. The unphased hulk of a man turned smoothly and backed away, aiming his enormous weapon at her. Before she could react, he pulled the trigger.
- >Dodge roll: 15+7 vs 10+10. Reduced to Damage 5.
- >Damage reduction: 9+8(Toughness) vs 15+5. 1 damage. Total: -2
- She hurled herself prone as the explosion went off behind her, fortunately missing her with the brunt of it. Still, she was pretty badly burned and bruised.
- Scarlet picked herself up and charged.
- >Attack roll: 19+8-2(charging) vs 10+5(Parry)
- >Damage reduction/save: 11+2(Toughness) vs 15+6. 2 damage, immobile. Total: -1, dazed, immobile
- >Healing roll: 1+10 vs 10. Heal 1 damage. Total: totally healed.
- She touched him and pushed the full force of her injuries into the Nazi. Unlike her, he didn't have the advantage of positioning himself so it scorched his back - he caught the full brunt of the attack right in his face.
- Finally reacting, the other guards began opening fire into the exposed center of the room.
- >Attack rolls: [10,6,12,3,2]+5 vs 10+7(Dodge). 1 hit.
- >Damage reduction: 3+8(Toughness) vs 15+5. 2 damage. Total: -1, dazed.
- Only one shot hit her, but it hit her solidly in the arm.
- The tank guys decided to get in on it as well while the going was good, firing en masse through slits in its armour.
- >Attack rolls: [5,19,5,5,2]+5 vs 10+7(Dodge). 1 hit.
- >Damage reduction: 5+8(Toughness)-2(injured) vs 15+5. 2 damage. Total: -2, dazed.
- >Round 2
- She quickly jogged over by the tank-thing to take cover. (Good luck firing at that angle, tank goons.) Hopefully it would not only protect her, it would buy a small amount of time until the others could find an angle to attack behind it. Not that she really needed it, but every little helps.
- Swapping the protective nail for the short-handled spear, she prepared to slice into the tank.
- >Round 3
- The supernaturally-charged steel sliced into the thick metal of the tank with a sound eerily reminiscent of a can opener, albeit at ten times the volume.
- >Attack roll: 3+4 vs 10
- >Round 4
- >Attack roll: 7+4 vs 10. Critical hit.
- >Damage reduction: 13+10 vs 15+16+5. 2 damage. Total: hole torn.
- After a moment's effort, a large doorway-shaped hole had been raggedly torn in the metal. The neo-Nazis inside were prepared - it's hard to miss someone cutting a hole in two-inch-thick steel right next to you, but it's even harder if you're in a small, echoing metal space. Still, she had some cover as they opened fire.
- >Attack rolls: [19,12,2,7,8]+5-2(cover) vs 10+4(Dodge). 2 hits.
- >Damage reduction: [13,3]+4(Toughness)-4(injured) vs 15+5. 1, 2 damage. Total: -4, staggered.
- It didn't do much good. The goons' bullets shredded flesh and costume alike.
- >Round 5
- >Regeneration: heal 1 damage. Total: -4
- Clutching the shredded metal of the tank, some of the worst wounds spilled over into the tank itself. She was hurt - badly hurt - but she wasn't blinded or slowed for these next few moments
- >Damage reduction: 18+10 vs 15+1.
- The tank, not having any vital organs to endanger, was unmoved.
- As the volley stopped, she stepped into the little room within. No preliminaries, just thrusting out to stab the nearest attacker with her uninjured arm.
- >Attack roll: 5+4 vs 10+5(Parry)
- Unscathed, he swung back, joined by his fellows as they crowded around her. Boots, fists, and guns all slammed into Scarlet. Even the men themselves would probably have found it hard to say whether they were fuelled by desperation or aggression.
- >Attack rolls: [18,12,20,9,2]+5 vs 10+4(Dodge). 4 hits.
- >Damage reduction: [2,2,13,3]+4(Toughness)-2(injured) vs 15+0(immune). 3,3,3 damage. Total: -7, incapacitated.
- >Attack reflection: [2,5,14]+4 vs 10+5(Dodge). 1 hits.
- >Damage reduction: 20+2(Toughness) vs 15+0(immune).
- >...and I guess that's it. I might come back and write the daring escape, but yikes, from shrugging off rockets and hails of concentrated fire with a smile to ... creamed by a handful of ordinary humans in a fistfight. Such is the random number god.
- >It's possible that this character is a little *too* swingy in terms of health. Although, in fairness, they are meant as a flexible support character rather than primarily for soloing armies as a lone bruiser.
