- With some more experimentation and reverse engineering, here is my current understanding of how chaos works:
- 1. Chaos goes up and down in increments of 6.
- 2. There are several categories of NPCs: Civilians, Thugs, Guards, Tallboys, Weepers and Assassins.
- 3. Killing a Civilian gives you 6 chaos.
- 4. Every 4th Thug, Guard, Tallboy, Weeper or Assassin you kill will give you 6 chaos. Note that these are tracked individually, so killing a guard and three thugs will not give you any chaos.
- 5. Certain actions, like poisoning the distillery, will give you 6 chaos.
- 6. Certain actions, like freeing Sokolov's test subjects, will take away 6 chaos.
- 7. Triggering 5 alarms or having 5 bodies discovered gives you 6 chaos. Again, these are tracked individually.
- 8. The categories are not necessarily tied to how they show up on the End of Mission screens. For example: The Pendletons count as Civilians, and killing Granny Rags does nothing, although she shows up as a Civilian.
- ---------------------------------
- THRESHOLDS FOR CHAOS
- ---------------------------------
- High Chaos Prison: 12
- High Chaos Campbell/End of Cat dialogue: 48
- High Chaos Cat: 72
- High Chaos Bridge: 96
- High Chaos Boyle: 114
- High Chaos Tower: 138
- High Chaos Flooded: 162
- High Chaos Loyalists/Lighthouse: 168
- Really High Chaos: 390
- 200 is also mentioned, I don't know where it is used
- maybe to check for some dialogue, maybe a remnant
- Yes, it is completely possible to get the low chaos version of lighthouse but still have it say high chaos when completing it
- you lose 20 chaos from sparing daud
- killing daud gives you 6 chaos
- I believe those are the only chaos levels that matter

- Does anyone know why ''Really High Chaos'' is 390, but the added total of all the missions listed here is 810, even without the extra 200?
-
- The High Chaos thresholds are for overall chaos. There is no per mission chaos.
- For example:
- - If you kill 8 guards in prison, you'll have 12 chaos the end of mission screen will say High Chaos.
- - If you then kill 6 civilians in Campbell (as well as Campbell himself, since sparing targets takes away 20 chaos) you'll get 36 chaos for a total of 48 chaos, enough for high chaos in that mission.
- - If instead you didn't kill anyone in prison, and go into Campbell with 0 chaos, but otherwise do the mission exactly the same you'll have 36 chaos at the end, and the end of mission screen will say low chaos.
-
- In lurven's all achievements world record, during the second time he does the Loyalist's mission, he activates the pylon to kill every guard in the area. Kind of a silly question but, does anyone know if this is done to increment the Chaos rating?
