  1. >Chronicler would not be pleased that you had snuck off like this.
  2. >That was nothing compaired to ensuring that your friends were safe.
  3. >You could tell a mile away that the Lich, as you had discovered was his proper title, was invested in something here.
  4. >He said that every world you went to was different, yet he had cometo the aid of a pony in need.
  5. >Why that one, over all the others?
  6. >He was hiding something, and you had an inkling of what it was.
  7. >His spell was impressive; You could not see your own hands or feet, and your boots left no footprints.
  8. >You still made sound, but..
  9. >Well, it wasn't like anything that heard you would be able to see you.
  10. >You were headed to Ponyville.
  11. >You needed some questions answered.
  12. >First, were Rainbow Dash and all the others safe?
  13. >Second, what in Celestia's Name was going on here?
  14. >You are getting close, you are standing under that same damn Waterfall that nearly killed you once, and you denied letting kill you again.
  15. >You had survived so much, for so long...
  16. >It didn't take much to hurt you, but Celestia willing, you spat in death's face every time.
  17. >You weren't about to let Chronicler tell you what to do, especially when there were some big questions to answer.
  18. >He said "Stay put and wait".
  19. >You didn't even bother with a "Buck that", before leaving once he was distracted with his ritual.
  20. >It wasn't much longer before you arrive at Fluttershy's cottage, her chickens and animals unnaturally quiet.
  21. >You sneak across the lawn, over the stream and by the door.
  22. >You knock on the door gently.
  23. "Fluttershy? Are you in there?"
  24. >You get no response, so you knock a little harder.
  25. "Hey, Fluttershy. Are you alright?"
  26. >Faintly, you can hear a small
  27. >"Go away."
  28. >You recoil a little.
  29. >You didn't know what was going on, and now Fluttershy was being a recluse?
  30. >You look towards the town, the early dawn's light just starting to cut through the night.
  31. >You would have your answers there.
  32. >And if you had to beat them out of some unfortunate ponce, so be it.
  33.
  34. >You stalk into Ponyville, a phantom to the eyes and senses, carefully picking your footing.
  35. >You could still be heard, but with total invisibility, you could take the time to place your steps.
  36. >It was as you had feared.
  37. >Strange alien figures patrolled the streets, and held the town center.
  38. >That nut-job, Lyra seemed to even be helping them.
  39. >Your hate for that little beast grew five sizes that day.
  40. >You focus on your goal though.
  41. >You need answers.
  42. >Best way to get answers?
  43. >You answer that question by slugging an Eldar across the face, through his helmet with a nasty right hook when no one is watching.
  44. >With a grunt, his plastic-like armor buckles, and he falls down, out cold.
  45. >He was lighter than you expected, you are able to drag him into the shadows fairly easily.
  46. >Weren’t these flamboyant excuses for soldiers supposed to be tougher than that?
  47. >You grab the collar of his armor, and hoist him up.
  48. ”Alright, tell me…”
  49. >His head is flopping unceremoniously and is bleeding a little too much.
  50. “… Whoops.”
  51. >Note to self: Be more gentle.
  52. >Time to find another one who wouldn’t be punched into the next town.
  53. >Shouldn’t be too hard.
  54.
  55. >Celestia have mercy, this was hard.
  56. >After your first accidental KO, you’d discovered that the entire town went on high alert.
  57. >Now, if you saw one alone, it was shortly afterwards right in the line of sight of another.
  58. >You can take solace in the fact that you can knock out these assholes fairly easily, though.
  59. >They seem to enjoy harassing the ponies as they slowly come alive, preparing for their next day under the Elves occupation.
  60. >And you still haven’t gotten any answers.
  61.
  62. >”-I’m not too certain, Sylanel.”
  63. >Your ears perk up
  64. >Time to eaves drop?
  65. >”Don’t be a prude, Illidras. It’s not like we’re going back any time soon.”
  66. >”Still, it doesn’t seem right to fall right back into what got us here in the first place.”
  67. >”We’re not falling back, we’re just repopulating.”
  68. >”I just hope we get to leave this damn town soon.”
  69. >You creep up, slowly, behind the two talking Elves, both of which have their backs to the wall on either side of you.
  70. >”Yeah. The Autarch was not pleased with what happened at that farm..”
  71. >The farm?
  72. >Something happened to Applejack, then.
  73. >You needed to get there.
  74. >You slide away as quietly as you can and begin to make your way out of town.
  75. >You pick your way through the streets, and finally make it out of the main center of town.
  76. >And not a moment too soon, as you happen to look down and see your shirt.
  77. >Seems that whatever Chronicler did, it wasn’t permanent.
  78. >That’s a bit of a relief, would have been annoying trying to itch your nose and accidentally poking yourself in the eye.
  79. >You pause, smelling something off.
  80. >You can’t put your finger on it, but there’s a smell in the air, and it is upsetting your stomach.
  81. >You’re willing to bet that somewhere in that forest Chronicler is up to something.
  82. >That was odd.
  83. >It seemed to be getting a little bit darker.
  84. >Sun must have been covered by a cloud, or something, because you could swear it was still mid-day.
  85. >You redouble your pace, hurrying along the dirt path.
  86.
  87. >You pick you way through the apple trees of Sweet Apple Orchards.
  88. >There was agitated soil, signs of combat, and...
  89. >Solid rock?
  90. >You come to a stop, looking at a tree that is burned to a cinder.
  91. >Hard rock covers it about half way up.
  92. >So, to recap:
  93. >It was night at Mid day
  94. >Aliens and monsters were attacking your place
  95. >Your fucks were on fire.
  96. >You certainly weren't giving them away any time soon.
  97. >You could see the farm house in the distance, the miasmic darkness choking out what should have been an inviting glow.
  98. >You choose to move slowly, the last thing you wanted was-
  99. >"-Ah Gotcha!"
  100. >Appajackle, right the fuck outta nowhere.
  101. >Hooves in your stomach, you get floored by the attack.
  102. >Your vision swims as you hit your stomach, and you can feel yourself being tussed together.
  103. >Bridge to engineering:
  104. >Full power to Engines.
  105. >Going into DefCon Buck-All
  106. >Firing incoherency Cannon!
  107. "Buckspit the hay are you doing?!"
  108. >You feel yourself being turned around, and look up at a russled looking Applejack.
  109. >"Well now, ya don' look like onna d'em Buggers. What are ya?"
  110. >You prepare to open your mouth when the Capslock gets slammed down on with the force of a thousand Haymakers
  111. >"HE LOOKS A BIT LIKE ANON, SIS!"
  112. >You can't hear Applejack's reply over the ringing in your ears, and silently moan in pain.
  113. >The ringing dies down, and you chance talking again.
  114. "Oooow...?"
  115. >Applejack gets a sheepish look on her face.
  116. >"He ain't like onna those Giants that showed up earlier, ya think?"
  117. "Uh, I can pro-"
  118. >"HE AIN'T BIG NUFF' TO BE ONE. THEY WAS A LOT BIGGER AND MEANER."
  119. >Oh Celestia, it was like you were being told a secret by Luna.
  120. >Again, all abilities to hear are blotted out from the concussive force of that screaming voice.
  121. "Could you please lower the volumn?"
  122. >You're whispering, hoping not to be speaking too loud.
  123. >With the way Applejack topples off of you, you believe that may have failed.
  124. >Your hearing returning, you hear the tail end of some mumbled explatives.
  125. >"Now lissin' here Applebloom! Ah don' want that kinda talk on mah farm!"
  126. >You can't hear any reply, but are sure this is because of the damage done to your ears.
  127. >Applejack nods towards a figure somewhere away from you.
  128. >"Alright mister, I don't k ow who you are, but there's some miighty strange things goin' on 'round here, an let me tell ya, seein' another like Anon isn't exactly comfortin'."
  129. >You noticed a trend in the names of the people that Chronicler was dragging you around to find.
  130. >They all had your name.
  131. >You were going to have to get some answers after this was over.
  132. "Well, I can tell you right now I'm not here to hurt anyone. I'm just trying to make sure everypony is safe."
  133. >Applejack looks at you sideways.
  134. >"MmHmm, alright then. But don't you be gettin' no idea's Mister."
  135. >With a swift tug, your bindings come loose and you rise.
  136. >"Name's Applejack, by the way."
  137. >You follow after the doppleganger of your friend, who navigates the darkness easier than yourself.
  138. >You begin to wonder how the real Applejack was doing.
  139. >Your thoughts settle home once again, as you approach the inviting farm house.
  140.
  141. >You bow your head as you enter the farm house.
  142. >Applejack is right behind you.
  143. >You take a moment to get stock of the situation, and what a situation it is.
  144. >Applebloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo are all nursing some severe wounds.
  145. >Big Mac has a bandage around his mid section.
  146. >Applejack is exhausted, and Rainbow Dash is looking rather roughed up.
  147. “What.. What happened here?”
  148. >”It wasn’t pretty, but some big green Bug-guy came ‘round the farm. Ah swear, ah never saw nobody move like that before…”
  149. >You can tell that Rainbow Dash is nursing much more than a few bruises.
  150. >You nod in understanding.
  151. >”So, yeah. This here’s Rainbow Dash, my brother Big Macintosh, and the fillies are Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo.”
  152. “So, any idea what’s going on in town right now?”
  153. >Applejack shrugged.
  154. >”Ah wish ah knew.”
  155. >You look out at the window, and sigh.
  156. >There was a feeli-
  157. >And then you hear it.
  158. >A piercing scream that hurt your ears and, from what you can tell, hurt everyone else in the room.
  159. >You look outside, as the darkness grows thicker.
  160. >You look back to those in the house.
  161. >Rainbow Dash was safe, that was the important thing.
  162. “Alright, listen to me. I’m going into town. You all stay here until light, I’m going to go.. talk.”
  163. >You were sure that things would come to blows, but… hey. May as well try.
  164. >”Are you outta yer mind?!”
  165. >”Whoah, dude.”
  166. >You cast a glance at Rainbow.
  167. "I know someone in that town, and I think he might need some help. As long as you all are safe, I need to get back to him."
  168. >Applejack looks at you like you've grown a third head, but Rainbow nods.
  169. ________________________________
  170. >You exit the house while Rainbow explains just why you have to leave.
  171. >You check your hat, and slowly begin to move through the inky blackness.
  172. >It was a starless night, under a new moon.
  173. >You stumble your way, slowly, to Ponyville, unable to see more than a few feet ahead of you.
  174. >As you enter the streets, the darkness lessens somewhat, and you can see a horrific scene.
  175. >Dead Eldar stumble about, mindlessly shuffling towards the forest.
  176. >There is certainly Chroniclers hand in this.
  177. >The darkness was thicker around the library.
  178. >As a whole it was slowly lifting, turning to a more natural night, save in that location.
  179. >That had to be where he was.
  180. >Blood runs through the streets in thick pools.
  181. >You hope that there is no pony blood mixing with those small rivers of purple.
  182. >You approach the Library, not sure what to expect.
  183. >You can hear voices from within.
  184. >"... Sent you off to die."
  185. >You press your ear to the door, trying to catch the conversation.
  186. >You can hear a muttering, but the words are jumbled and unintelligible.
  187. >"I would never allow my loved ones to fight alone."
  188. >A brief reply.
  189. >"No, not even if they were."
  190. >There is a sound of plastic crashing, and claws on wood.
  191. >"Yes? He is where?"
  192. >Oh shit.
  193.
  194. >You grab the knob, and open the door just as a black shroud is tossed over a formless lump.
  195. "Uhm... I came soon as I-"
  196. >"What do you require Shermanator I am currently wholly preoccupied."
  197. >He wasn't interested in games.
  198. >Too bad for him.
  199. "I was just checking to make sure-
  200. >"I have directed my minions to outright ignore all Ponies."
  201. "No need to be rude about it."
  202. >Skeletor shakes a little, before setting a hand on the counter.
  203. >"I... I apologize. This whole ordeal has been, stressful."
  204. >Well now, not like you could know.
  205. >Still, felt a little bit like a dick.
  206. "Hey, you alright?"
  207. >Besides being dead and all...
  208. "You know if you want to..."
  209. >He glances up at you.
  210. >"I appreciate the offered hand. I shall deal with these demons of my own, however."
  211. >You nod to him.
  212. "You'll keep?"
  213. >He seems genuinely shocked at the question, recoiling slightly.
  214. >"I... I'll... Keep."
  215. >This wasn't how you dealt with someone in pain damn it all.
  216. >What could you do?
  217. >He was more secretive than Anyone you had ever met.
  218. >You couldn't even read his body language.
  219. >His face didn't even have a face!
  220. >You push the excuses from your mind.
  221. "I'll be here if you need me."
  222. >He doesn't call after you, instead looking at whatever is under the cloth.
  223. >You turn and close the door behind you, but not before catching something.
  224. >"I am quite alright, little one. Simply remembering someone..."
