  7. ----------
  8. >The bell rings, signalling the end of the schoolday, and all the kids in your class quickly pack up their things and flood out the classroom door
  9. >All of them but you, that is
  10. >Only after everyone else is gone do you slowly gather your things and walk to the door
  11. >You put one hand on the doorknob
  12. >Take a deep breath
  13. >And open the door
  14. >You step out casting your gaze around the hall to see who's around
  15. >There's a handful of macros still hanging around
  16. >A few groups of micros streaming down the edges towards the exit
  17. >But thankfully there's no sign of... her
  18. >Selene
  19. >She'll probably show up any moment now, but you're still glad you don't have to face her just yet
  20. >You calmly begin walking towards the bus stop
  21. >You get maybe 5% of the way there before you see her step around a corner far ahead of you, making you stop in your tracks
  22. >You see her quickly scan the corners where micros' paths are
  23. >Feel her eyes finally lock onto you
  24. >Feel the vibrations on the floor as she briskly walks over
  25. >She begins sliding her paw in front of you, as if to prevent you from leaving, but stops and frowns at you
  26. >From the way she's looking at you, you can guess that this isn't how she was expecting you to react
  27. >For that matter, neither did you
  28. >You're oddly calm; far calmer that you thought you'd be
  29. >The two of you spend what feels like an eternity just awkwardly staring at each other, waiting for eomeone to say something
  30. >Finally, she's decides to break the silence
  31. >"Anon," she begins, and with that she appears to regain her confindence.
  32. >"Anon, why didn't you go to Chess club today?"
  33. >The sound of genuine concern in her voice takes you by surprise.
  34. >Was she really that worried about you?
  35. >"I waited for you at the usual time, then when you didn't show up after 15 minutes I thought maybe you got out early and went on without me, so I checked in the club room but you weren't there either!"
  36. >"So I kept walking back and forth around the halls and you still didn't show up"
  37. >"And then I got worried and started thinking about all manner of awaful things that might have happened to you to make you miss out on your club!"
  38. >Good grief, is she seriously acting like the victim here?
  39. >After all she's done to you?
  40. >Your anger tightens your hands into fists
  41. >"If you care about me so much, why do you always make like you're going to step on me?!" you demand
  42. >"Why do you tease and humilliate me all the time?! Why don't you ever leave me alone?!"
  43. >Unexpectedly, Selene seems to flinch and her ears lean back, only coming back forward after you finish speaking
  44. >Seems the shoe is on the other foot now and little Anon is the one making the big bunny girl upset
  45. >In any other situation you might find the imagery funny
  46. >"Y-you think that means I don't care about you?" she responds
  47. >It sounds like she's trying to be indignant but instead she just sounds hurt
  48. >"Yeah, that's usually what it means when someone spends all their time bullying you," you say bitterly
  49. >"But I do care! I care a lot!"
  50. >"Then why do you do all those things?!", you ask again
  51. >"I-I can't help myself! You're just so..."
  52. >She turns her head, looking upset
  53. >"Ohh, that's beside the point! WHY didn't you show up for chess club today?"
  54. >"Well," you answer her, "I've been thinking of leaving the club lately"
  55. >"What?" She takes a step back, her face looking like she can't understand what she just heard
  56. >"Chess just isn't' as fun as it used to be for me, so, y'know, what's even the point of going anymore?"
  57. >In truth you just didn't want to go anymore because Selene had monopolized all your time at the club.
  58. >Over the past two weeks, ever since she won her "carring rights", she had made sure you spent more time playing with her than with anyone else
  59. >She always made you play as your king, always beat you at the game, and never let you play with anyone else until she was done with you
  60. >It was humilliating
  61. >She singlehandedly ruined chess club for you
  62. >"I'll probably just stop attending altogether" you shrug
  63. >"So I guess I won't be needing you to give me lifts to the club anymore."
  64. >"Oh..." she replies
  65. >Was that all she had to say for herself? Just "Oh?"
  66. >You can't help but shake your head
  67. >"Well, if that's all you wanted from me, I really should be going now"
  68. >You turn away and resume walking toward the exit
  69. >This is one of those times you really regret being a micro
  70. >if you were bigger you could just walk for a few seconds and have Selene out of sight, but because you're so small you either had to wait for her to leave or spend the next few minutes awkwardly walking away from her while she remained in plain sight
  71. >You can hear her shifting around behind you try to ignore it; as long as she doesn't follow you or say anything, there's no reason to turn acknowledge her anymore.
  72. >You hear her slowly step away from you and start thinking it's finally over.
  73. >Only, you notice she's stopped again
  74. >There's a dragging sound—the sound of paws pivoting on the floor—and then you hear as well as feel her coming toawrds you once more.
  75. >"Anon, wait!" She calls to you
  76. >You stop and turn to face her, wondering what she wants now
  77. >Just one step away from you, she gets down on her knees and lets out a sigh
  78. >"I'm sorry, Anon.", she begins, and you blink in surprise.
  79. >"I'm sorry for scaring you."
  80. >"I'm sorry for teasing you."
  81. >"I'm sorry for... for forcing you to spend time with me."
  82. >"It's just that I... I..."
  83. >She looks away and brings a hand up to wipe something away from her eye.
  84. >Is she crying?
  85. >Jesus, you really weren't expecting this from her.
  86. >"Anyways, you don't have to worry about me bothering you anymore"
  87. >"You don't have to keep avoiding chess club because of me either"
  88. >"I'll just leave you alone from now on"
  89. >"I promise you won't even see me."
  90. >Now it was your turn to be speechless
  91. >It never once occurred to you that she was capable of apologizing for her actions
  92. >Had you completely misjudged her?
  93. >"Goodbye, Anon"
  94. >And with that, Selene got up to leave
  95. >The encounter turned out better than you could have expected
  96. >You got everything you could have asked for from her
  97. >...
  98. >So why does this feel like a hollow victory?
  99. >Why does it feel like some part of you is being ripped out when she turns her back to you?
  100. >"Selene, wait!" you yell up at her
  101. >Her head turns slightly to look at you
  102. >Her face looks like her heart's one blow away from shattering
  103. >"I'm... running kida late" you say
  104. >"The bus is probably leaving soon and I don't think I could get there in time by myself, so..."
  105. >The words catch in your throat
  106. >Are you really going through with this?
  107. >Just an hour ago you thought this was the last thing you wanted
  108. >How had everything turned upside-down so suddenly?
  109. >Finally you blurt out, "Do you think you could give me a lift to the bus stop?"
  110. >She hesitates a moment before turning back to face you and crouching down.
  111. >"Are you sure about this?" she asks.
  112. >You nod and she slowly lowers her hand so you can climb on
  113. >These last two weeks she had grown more confident in picking you up
  114. >She had stopped being quite as cautious as she was the first time
  115. >Now, however, she was even more careful than she was on that first day
  116. >You expected her to drop you in her breast pocket as usual, but instead she brings her other hand up and cups them both around you.
  117. >You look up and see her face filling your view, her gorgeous green eyes beaming down on you like twin moons
  118. >Selene smiles tenderly down at you and your heart skips a beat
  119. >Had she always been this pretty? you ask yourself. Had you just failed to notice until now?
  120. >No; you HAD noticed it before
  121. >You recall the first time you saw her
  122. >You just caught a glimpse of her in the halls
  123. >It was your first day at a mixed-size school so you still felt nervous around macros
  124. >Even so, you couldn't help thinking to yourself how cute she looked when you saw her walk down the hall off in the distance
  125. >Of course, that was before she took to bullying you and her face became the absolute last thing you wanted to see in your life
  126. >But now...
  127. >You're snapped back to reality by the sound of Selene giggling
  128. >Suddenly you become aware that you're blushing
  129. >Embarassment makes you blush even more and she lets out another laugh in response
  130. >You turn away and cover your face
  131. >"Alright," she says, her laugh subsiding.
  132. >"Let's get you to that bus"
  133. >A couple minutes pass and she finally comes to a stop at the exit leading to the micros' bus stop.
  134. >"Well, here we are," she sighs as she casts an expectant look on you
  135. >"I guess this is goodbye, then."
  136. >"Yeah, goodbye," you reply
  137. >Selene's lip began to quiver at those words, and here eyes to blink back tears
  138. >Yet your next words undid the effect of the first two
  139. >"For now."
  140. >God, what were you even doing?
  141. >Why would you have feelings for the girl who spent so long tormenting you?
  142. >Why would SHE have feelings for YOU?
  143. >The whole thing made no sense
  144. >And yet it was clear now that you both did have such feelings
  145. >"I'll see you tomorrow for my lift to chess club. If you're still up for it."
  146. >Her face transforms miraculously
  147. >Her whole being seems to brighten up, to fill up with a warmth and energy
  148. >Smiling with sheer joy, she replies, "I'd love to"
  149. >Bringing you up to her face, she leans in and plants a gigantic kiss all over your little torso
  150. >Your entire body is sandwiched between her hand and head and it's making you feel incredible
  151. >And just as quickly as it began, the kiss ended and you were left gasping for breath on the palm of her hand
  152. >Slowly she lowers her hand down again and you step off
  153. >Still a bit disoriented you nearly trip over yourself walking over to the exit
  154. >With one hand on the door, you take one last look up at your past tormentor, and saying "I'll see you around", you take your first step into the outside world.
