Mona was born and raised in London, England to a Korean mother and a St Lucian father. She grew up in a family who really valued the importance of music and genuinely loved it. Her parents often played music from the likes of Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Little Richard and Big Mama Thornton. These artists made her fall in love with music. She loved listening to it, understanding it, following the melody, and just the overall composition. Everything about music made her fall in love. It was in the 60s that she started learning how to play the bass. Although made in the 50s (the modern bass guitar not the original), the bass guitar was becoming more frequently used and she absolutely loved the way it sounded; she felt it added so much to a song and it became her dream to learn how to play it. This dream was made a reality when her parents paid for her own bass guitar as well as lessons. Her dream of joining a band was actually influenced by her love for The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Temptations and Jimi Hendrix. She loved the whole band aesthetic and the way they acted so freely on stage. They did whatever they wanted, no matter the consequence and she loved that and sought to live her life like that.
