LORE ON NIKO, THEIR VILLAGE, ETC

(Warning: Everything here is not organized at all. If something is repeated, it is probably because it was from a separate comment. Think of these as notes and not a professional guide.)

(Sources for these are from the two Oneshot dev AMAS on Reddit, Nightmargin's tumblr, and the game itself. (though mainly the first two, there is absolutely more in the game))

-Niko themself-

Night on Niko's personality: "For their personality and general concept, they're based off the little prince as a sorta precocious child from another world who quickly becomes your friend and sometimes asks you deep questions."

Nightmargin on what Niko remembers after Solstice: "Niko would probably remember it as a dream that was a little too vivid to be "just a dream", they would tell their friends about it and probably think about it long after they've grown up."

Additionally, they remember you "in the same way you fondly remember a dream you had as a child."

Night does not know Niko's full name.

Niko has skin and not fur, "probably."

Niko's gender is intentionally ambiguous. ("Niko is a gender. I will not elaborate further." -Gir)

Niko's birthday is December 28th, 2013. Likely because it is the date Niko was created by Nightmargin.

Niko likes any toppings on pancakes.

Niko is ambidextrous

Niko likes Pistachios, but are not native to Niko's part of the world. It's more of a rare treat.

Niko has a handmade, brown + yellow vaguely owl shaped plush called Mr. Banana Bread (It's a little old but they still love it)

Niko would probably grow up to be a Farmer/Baker, according to Nightmargin.

Grown up Niko would be 5 ft 7in tall.

Niko's favorite instrument is a marimba/xylophone, or a triangle.

Niko is not afraid of dogs (unless it's a "rabid Tibetan mastiff foaming at the mouth")

Niko's favorite hobby is Arts and crafts (with found objects like bottlecaps)

Niko's likes owls, probably their favorite animal due to Mr. Banana-bread

Niko would likely want a ferret as a pet

Niko likes spaghetti with maple syrup (ew)

Niko likes anything with syrup on it.

Niko plays video games (as in, one of those free mobile farming sims with ads. They would like Pokémon according to Night, though.)

Niko would like Tomato and clam chowder soup. ...With syrup.

Niko's cat ears on their hat are part of their hat, and we don't know what's under it

Niko's scarf was knitted by their mom.

Niko's favorite color is blue and yellow.

The most rebellious thing Niko has done is the part of solstice where Niko refuses to talk to you. (I think after silver dies i forgot)

Niko does not like spicy food.

Niko would like strawberry pie.

Niko like croissants (especially the ones with chocolate inside)

Niko likes chicken cooked.

Niko's favorite drink is milk. (with syrup)

Niko's clothes are "probably some kind of hand-me-down clothes", maybe from another (older) village child, according to Nightmargin.

Niko would probably like marching band or carnival music.

Niko will always remember the Player, according to Gir.

Niko can bend down and touch their toes, and tie their shoes.

Niko "probably isn't super big on hugging strangers" according to Nightmargin.

Niko uses big words because they think it's "Cool" according to Nightmargin.

Niko's ears are under their hat according to Gir.

Niko's hair is an in-between color, on the blue-ish side. It is purple on the plush because that's the only way the creators of the plush could make it work.

Niko's voice sounds like either Tardar Sauce (Grumpy cat), or the "#1 Victory royale" kid.

Niko is around 4 feet tall.

Nightmargin on what TV Shows Niko would like: "pg cartoons and other forms of children’s programming"

Niko's eyes are too big for goggles of any kind according to Night.




-Niko's Village-

Nightmargin on Niko's village:

"It's a small village with a handful of buildings in the middle of a wheat field. The tallest building in town is a bell tower and there's also a well in the center of town. Niko and their mom lives in shared communal housing with other villagers."

More on Nightmargin's tumblr:

"It’s a small village surrounded by wheat fields, the tallest building (2 stories) is an assembly hall/ clock tower. population is around 50-ish, there’s a well in the center of the village"

Eliza on if everyone in the village would deny being a cat: "I think they would find it equally as strange to be compared with a cat as Niko"

Niko's village has a 1-2 classroom schoolhouse, not very big

Niko's village does annual pancake-related events ("sure why not")

Gir on what the world of Niko is like: "It's name is "Niko's world" because there aren't many details about it besides what you hear from Niko."

Niko's village is tight-knit, like one big family.

Niko's neighbors make bread and noodles a lot, can be found as something they say in-game.

Niko's village is quite isolated, with the closest city being an hour away.

Niko gets to play grownup with the other kids while their parents are working due to being one of the older kids in their village.

Niko's village has a few cats in it to keep the grains "vermin-free."




-Oneshot itself-

Oneshot takes place whenever you play it

Niko was the messiah because they're a kind, considerate person, along with fate and destiny

Gir when asked if Oneshot the game exists in Niko's world: "Maybe?"

Every copy of Oneshot is it's own timeline if you think about it, according to Nightmargin. At least 6 timelines due to George.

Niko was gone from their world for as long as it took you to play the game.




-Misc-

Nightmargin when asked what Niko's species would be called if she had to name it: "c...at....people (emphasis on the “people” part)"

Niko would dress up as a pancake for Halloween.

The reason Niko's favorite food is pancakes because they look like the light-bulb. (In the Dev's case, not canonically)

Niko's mom does not have a canonical name.

"The planet Niko lives on is most likely Earth, or an Earth analogue." -Gir

Nightmargin however says they are not from Earth on her tumblr.

Niko's species is "a person." according to Gir. Thanks Gir.

If Niko WAS a cat, they'd be a "barn cat of indeterminate breed, probably a tabby of some kind"

Gir on what Niko would think of furries(????????????): "but those are just normal people back in my world..."

Niko would probably still prefer not being called a cat person.

If Niko met the Player again they'd "probably have pancakes together or something" according to Gir.

Gir has "no idea" what happened to Niko's dad and in another comment says he is not sure if Niko's dad canonically exists or not.

Nightmargin on Niko's dad: "he probably have been working out of town since Niko was a toddler, since Niko haven’t seen enough of him to mention him in your conversations"

"The Pancake Episode" is an AU.

Niko would be allowed to watch Dragon Ball, but only when they're older as their mom doesn't like the violence.

Niko originally had a yellow scarf, but the design was changed to make their eyes and the lightbulb stand out more.

The reason they have "whiskers" for hair is so they have a more interesting silhouette.

Niko would maybe believe in aliens if they saw a crop circle.

Niko's mom would only let Niko listen to rap if there was no swearing.

Niko's mom was originally just a caretaker, but it was hard to explain so they just made her their mom. A sibling was also considered, but never went anywhere.

Gir on if Niko would enjoy hanging out with the cast of Undertale: "Probably? As long as they were able to eat pancakes together or something."

If Niko could be friends with any other character from any other universe, they would be friends with you.

Niko's sleeves ARE meant to be a different color from the rest of the coat.

Niko's weapon of choice would be Molotov cocktails.

Nightmargin on what Niko's favorite movies would be: "Niko would probably really like Ponyo or Totoro, maybe Kiki's Delivery service."

Niko's previous names in development were "Kitty," "Cat Eyes," and "Nico."

If Niko had 3 wishes, they would wish for world peace, cure to every disease, and FTL travel.

Niko would like Toy Story, and have that paranoia that their toys may be alive and would make little cardboard chairs for them.

Niko's full name is Niko Oneshot. Eliza always imagined that Niko was their full name.

Niko has committed at least 1 crime.

Niko would get along with Heavy TF2, they both like food.
