- The silence filled the holy church. Leon V sat in front of the altar praying to Omael. The silence got disturbed when the three knights came stumbling inside.
- ‘I hope you have good news, Bevis.’
- ‘I’m sorry my lord. But we couldn’t retrieve the sword.’
- Leon stood up for his prayer and turned to the three failed knights. ‘I think my request was quite simple.’ Walking down the steps of the altar he reached the knights. ‘Was it not simple?’ His hand touched the armor plating of the knights, right above the heart. ‘Did any of you have something to say?’
- The knights kept silent. The terrifying silence got broken by a snap of the fingers from Leon, followed by horrific scream from the knights in the bronze and silver armor. A relic began to shine brightly on their armor. Light erupting from every crack in the armor, the heavy armor falling motionless on the cold stone floor. The armor falling apart revealing ashes where the body of the knights should had been.
- ‘You failed me Bevis...’ Leon spoke in a cold tone. ‘The request I had was a simple one. Take the sword away from the kid that took it!’ The anger in his voice grew exponentially.
- ‘I know Lord Leon. But the kid surprised us.’ Bevis spoke out quickly, fearing for his life.
- ‘How do you mean, surprised you?’
- ‘The kid managed to use a fire affinity right on the spot. The sword also had some kind of energy, it managed to shoot me several feet away when I grabbed onto it. The child even wanted to give up the sword!’
- ‘I see. The sword had some kind of effect on the boy it seems.’ Leon turned his back to Bevis. ‘You did well Bevis, you’re just the knight I need in these circumstances.’
- ‘What do you mean by that, my lord?’
- ‘Quite simple Bevis. I won’t kill you due to your failure like I did with the other two. Instead I’ll promote you to a higher rank.’
- ‘Really my lord? I’d thank you!’ Bevis got onto his knees and bowed before Leon, whom just waved his hand for him to get back up onto his feet.
- ‘But you do already have the highest achievable rank in the church. But I think I have an idea for that.’ Leon turned back around standing right in front of Bevis, placing his hand back on the armor plating of the man, right above his heart. ‘Answer me Bevis. Do you serve to protect the Holy Church of Fog? Protect it from evil and all who might fight against its power?’
- ‘Of course, my lord! I’ll fight for the church till the day I would be slain in battle.’ The dedication is his voice made Leon smile.
- ‘Perfect. I hereby grant you the rank of Devine Knight.’ Leon pushed his hand flat on the man’s heart. Bright white light warmed the man’s heart. The light got absorbed into his body, beams of light shooting out of eyes and mouth. Illuminating the ceiling of the church, the lights turned from a bright white to a dim gray. The darkened light took over Bevis’s body, the light slowly fading as he fell down onto his knees. ‘Perfect Bevis. I think your transformation is complete.’
- ‘Why do I feel so, different?’ Bevis looked down at his hands his armor had changed, the fully golden suit had changed into cloth, making him more nimble and agile. The shoulder plates stayed gold but changed their shape, from the round plates to more spiked ones. More golden plating was around his waist and abdomen. His hands changed as well; a gray light flowed within his palms. ‘Lord Leon, what is this power?’
- Leon merely chuckled and helped Bevis back onto his feet. ‘This Bevis. This is the power of the Holy Church, and you possess it. Now my Devine Knight, explore these new powers that I’ve gifted you with, and I’ll summon you when needed.’
- ‘Yes, my lord.’ Bevis bowed again before Leon, but he raised his hand.
- ‘No Bevis. People bow to us, demigods you might say. We only bow to Omael.’ Together they bowed before the altar, a new age for the holy church had started. One where Leon would go on the attack, to protect what took so many years to create. The man lived longer than the average men on Fog. But then again, Leon V wasn’t an ordinary man, once the general of Omael’s army, he turned to his own ambitions. The greed for longing to battle and lead his own land took over his good side. Omael noticed this and send him to fall. The once holy angel has fallen from his grace.
