57. In the midst of an elaborate conspiracy, an expert negotiator is driven to the edge when he's framed for the murder of his partner, as well as embezzling money from his department's pension fund. His only chance to prove his innocence is to take hostages himself, acquire the services of another expert negotiator, and find out who's running the conspiracy before it's too late.
 58. As a decorated hostage negotiator, Lieutenant Danny Roman has made a career out of talking down dangerous men who don't listen to reason. But he goes off the deep end himself when he is framed for the murder of a colleague investigating corruption in their department. Convinced that the Internal Affairs office contains evidence that can exonerate him, Roman takes everyone inside the building hostage. Roman demands Lieutenant Chris Sabian, known for his anti-violence creed, be brought in to negotiate thinking it will buy him time. When Sabian's attempts for a peaceful resolution are constantly undermined by local authorities, he begins to suspect there may be method to Roman's madness.
 59. When i think about the word negotiation, the first thing i think is business, second i think of a kidnapping payment and third and last i think about is the hostage situation. This film is about the last of the three; the hostage situations are put on screen one more time in a splendid way on this film, the movie isn't peaceful at all, it shows very hard and critic hostage situations, with a lot of gunshots and action; this is good, because for the ones that love action films with really good action shots and based on intelligent scripts, this is one of the films to watch. The script is deep and makes the movie strong on its basis, the directing and cinematography of the film is great, with some Die Hard style, the acting roles are performed great by Jackson and Spacey. This movie took me, grabbed me to finally spend one of the most pleasant 1 and 1/2 hour of my weekend.

ABOUT THE FILM: Samuel L. Jackson is here Ltt. Danny Roman, a police officer expert handling hostage situations, and negotiation with criminals. When Danny's partner Nathan (Paul Guilfoyle) was killed in some confuse events, Danny is taken suspect and some false evidence was set in his house to make him look guilty. Danny heard that Nathan knew something about some corruption on the Internal Affair division of the Police, so Danny suspected of them as the responsible of Nathan's death. When no hope was there for Danny, he decides to take as hostage the Internal Affair offices with some of the people who work there, including Insp. Niebaum (J.T. Walsh), the one that Danny tough as mostly implied in the events. With a lot of support of his wife Karen (Regina Taylor) during this hard events, Danny manages to bring an external negotiator, Lt Chris Sabian (Kevin Spacey), that's someone far from his division in order to try to probe his innocence. In this hostage situation, a lot of interest takes place, the same partners of Danny try to put an end to this by all means. Some of Danny's partners are: Cmdr Adam Beck (David Morse), Cmdr Grant Frost (Ron Rifkin) and Chief Al Travis (John Spencer). The kidnapped involved in the building besides Niebaum are Niebaum's secretary Maggie (Siobhan Fallon) and Rudy Timmons (Paul Giamatti).

8/10! great film of F. Gary Gray
 60. "The Negotiator" doesn't break any new ground in the suspense-thriller genre , but it's not too shabby either. Despite the rebuke of a grandiose reviewer, this film is acutally pretty involving. I wasn't expecting the next "Usual Suspects", but the elements of an intriguing film are there. Take the opening scene, for instance, where Samuel L. Jackson risks his life cunningly by amusing a disgruntled Marine. He digresses off the subject of the hostage situation and distracts the lunatic so a gunman can maim him. Most of the movie seems cliched from there, but eventually, as Jackson becomes the vigilante defending his life, the movie's coolness increases. This sets up for some unusually superlative acting in a summer flick. This movie is tense and alive; people shout and try to outsmart each other throughout. Most scenes are well done; well, the "eye thing" revealing truth was a bit contrived. The end of the movie was fun, too, with the unexpected twists. This movie almost ends on the note of "Chinatown", but instead concludes righteously like "L.A. Confidential" with the police corruption countered. This is a very good movie; not excellent or novel, but fun.
 61. Instead of the cat-and-mouse cogitations and psych-outs one might rightly expect from this high concept, we're fobbed off with a lot of sub-Die Hard theatrics and stinko plotting.
