  1. Read the College Paper Case Study and consider how you would rate the responsibility of each person involved. Next, review the University of the People's Academic Integrity and Code of Conduct Statements. When you're ready, create a post that uses the case study and the College's statements to discuss what you believe about plagiarism. Discuss the strategies you will use to ensure that you will not inadvertently plagiarize while engaged in your studies at UoPeople and explain why you made the decisions you did. In this Discussion Assignment your response should be at least 300 words in length. Also include a title, at least two in-text citations using APA format, a list of references using APA format, and a word count.

  6. How to avoid Plagiarism
  7.
  8. In the case study, Reggie should be responsible for his failing grade the most. The root cause for his F score on the course results from playing games too much. Because of the insufficient time for studying learning materials, Reggie uses others' work as his paper for the assignment as the last resort.
  9.
  10. Either Professor Lovelit, Sally, or Arnie shouldn't hold any responsibility for Reggie's bad grade. Professor Levelit gave Reggie a fair score for his work given plagiarism and notifies Reggie how the final score comes. Sally, Reggie's tutor, gave Reggie correct suggestions for studying and warned him about the seriousness of plagiarism beforehand. Arnie, Reggie's classmate, shouldn't have any responsibility on Reggie's score since students are responsible for their own scores. Even if Reggie gave Arnie the sources of the Internet essay and warned her not to use it because he plans to use it already, what Reggie intends to do is already wrong whether Arnie follows Reggie's words. What Arnie did might show that she didn't listen to Reggie and owes him an apology in terms of their friendship, but it doesn't mean she should be responsible for Reggie's final score. In order to prevent what happened to Reggie or us in the future, there are many methods we can adopt to avoid plagiarism.
  11.
  12. First, differentiate the types of referencing others' work: quotations, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Only if we can distinguish the difference can we know what rules to apply to avoid plagiarism. Quotations use the exact same words as the original work and give attribute to the original author. Paraphrasing modifies the wording of original passages while remaining the main ideas and give attribute to the original author. Summarizing contains the same ideas with different wording and is usually shorter than original work; summarizing should give attribute to the original author, too. (Driscoll and Brizee, 2013)
  13.
  14. Second, consider using plagiarism checker service. After you adopt many ways to avoid plagiarism, it's still recommended to have your final paper checked against databases that specialize in plagiarism detection("6 Ways to Avoid Plagiarism in Research Papers," n.d.). In light of the advantage of the Internet, numerous papers can be stored in databases and accessed around the world. With the searching algorithm advanced every day, online plagiarism checker service becomes powerful and helps us to avoid plagiarism in a click.
