- With hindsight, my notes stated the obvious, and yet they were circumspect. Rereading them showed me what I'd been missing, too. I remember, even now, the way the Khan's knuckles whitened as he gripped his goblet of airag and the way the Princess's cheeks dimpled as she glanced at the Sculptor. But did I understand the breadth of possibilities - political, economic, religious - that the situation implied? If I did, I did not write them down. Why was that?
