- #MWE August #10
- Yes - Close to the Edge
- Yes and yass I listened to a classic from the best genre for today's MWE. Progressive rock. I'm not the biggest prog fan, but I do love it a fair bit especially when it's done with a sense of earnestness and/or cheese. And Yes as a band are another huge blind spot in my musical knowledge of the genre. So Close to the Edge, is it good?
- Yeah this album slays, especially the drumming courtesy of Bill Bruford who's just able to capture some really infectious grooves all throughout the three tracks. And Steve Howe's vocals have this earnestness to them that comes across as camp (not distracting to me, I've heard this tone before, particularly on Ayreon projects, and I usually love it). I also love this album's more psychedelic yet orchestral feel to them. Especially the space-y vibe going on halfway through the title track, leading to those more isolated vocals that come in. That hits the spot. This is a band I'll definitely check out more from. Great stuff
