  1. >…
  2. >You awake with vigor unlike any other.
  3. >Today you were gonna get Big Mac in to the safe house and then…the most important quest…
  4. >BUILD A FORT.
  5. >Not just any fort, but the coolest most awesome fort ever!
  6. >And it’ll be no girls allowed!
  7. >…except Applebloom and Granny Smith because maybe you’ll have to watch AB or GS might bring some snacks or see AB or maybe you don’t really know and you’re going off on a tangent like Pinkie Pie or…
  8. >You shake your head.
  9. “No distractions! Big Mac, fort, in that order.”
  10. >You wake Mac and put your finger to your lips.
  11. >He nods silently and gets ready.
  12. >Well, you both do, really.
  13. >It was waaay earlier than usual, and everyp0ny else in the house was asleep.
  14. >Perfect. Maybe even Colgate wouldn’t be up this early!
  15. >You tip-toe and tip-hoof across down the stairs and across the floor to open the door.
  16. >Colgate.
  17. >Is sleeping right on the welcome mat.
  18. >Phew.
  19. >You and Big Macintosh step over the sleeping mare.
  20. >Once the two of you are far enough away towards the Carrot Residence, Mac starts conversation.
  21. >”Would you believe this mare? Yesterday she was hidin in the cupboards when Ah got lunch! Ah’m surprahsed she weren’t waitin for us in the hallway, or already in the bed when we woke up!”
  22. >you shrug.
  23. “Maybe she fell asleep at th’ door?”
  24. >Now it’s his turn to shrug.
  25. >”Anythin’s possible. Now let’s hurry up. The Carrots are right decent folk, but Ah’d rather we get this over an done with.”
  26. >You nod and pick up the pace.
  27.
  28. >It’s still pretty early when you arrive, only being about 3 minutes away does that.
  29. >In fact, how didn’t you notice the building right away?
  30. >There’s a big old carrot weather vane on top of it, and the coloring is primarily orange.
  31. >Hey, Sweet Apple Acres is pretty much reds and light purple with an apple weathervane, so it’s not like you can say this building is weird…it’s just obvious, and you’re a little upset that you never once noticed its existence in the little over a week you’ve been here.
  32. >You are at the front door to the Carrot’s.
  33. >There’s no real obvious places to search other than the house, so you’re debating with Mac over whether or not to just knock and ask.
  34. >”Ah say we should just take a look aroun’.”
  35. ”And Ah don’t see anything to look at but plants! And they ain’t like trees, it’s all flat!”
  36. >He rolls his eyes.
  37. >”Yer not lookin raght. Jus’ give it a look-over an you’ll see all sorts a buildins.”
  38. >You look around AGAIN only because he told you. You can’t wait to tell him you’re right…
  39. >There’s a small shack near the fields.
  40. “Oh.”
  41. >He smirks and leads the way.
  42. >He knocks.
  43. >Rap-tapatap tap
  44. >From the other side of the door, you hear a voice.
  45. >”Password?”
  46. >Mac replies immediately.
  47. >”Two bits.”
  48. >You don’t get it.
  49. >”You’re late, you know.”
  50. “Ah’m sorry, it was mah fault he’s late.”
  51. >About head level for you, a small panel slides and a pair of eyes looks at you and widens.
  52. >”AH! The human-colt.”
  53. >You make a face.
  54. >ಠ_ಠ
  55. >The stallion on the other side of the door laughs.
  56. >”Haha! Well it’s all good, Little Macintosh. Come on in. The colt comin’ in too?”
  57. >LITTLE Mac?
  58. >”Well are ya, Anon?”
  59. “Hmm…what do you do in there?”
  60. >”Well down in here we just hang out in the basement for the duration of the storm, playin’ cards, shootin’ the breeze. Whatever we can to take up time.”
  61. >That sounds BORING.
  62. >Besides, you still have to make that fort, remember?
  63. >I remember brain.
  64. “Nah. Ahm gonna build a fort today!”
  65. >”Well good luck, little guy!”
  66. >Locks rattle on the other side of the door. The door opens just wide enough for Big Macintosh to slip through, then it slams shut, and you hear locks once more.
  67. “…well I guess it’s time to go back for chores…”
  68. >At about this point you realize chores are going to take longer now without Big Mac. Maybe if you had waited until you were done…
  69. >No, not happening. Colgate was RIGHT outside the door.
  70. >You sigh and begin walking back home.
  71. >You’re no more than five feet away when you hear hoofsteps behind you.
  72. >”Hello there.”
  73. >Huh?
  74. >You turn to see the source of the voice, an orange haired yellow filly with a carrot cutie mark.
  75. >Phew, you really weren’t looking forward to seeing another mare, they might figure out that Mac was close by.
  76. “Hi.”
  77. >”Who are you?”
  78. “Ah’m Anonymous.”
  79. >”I’m Golden Harvest How old are you, where do you live?.”
  80. “Uhh, eleven. Ah live at Sweet Apple Acres.”
  81. >”Oh, we’re neighbors! I’m home-schooled so I don’t meet many ponies…you want to be my friend?”
  82. “Yeah, sure.”
  83. >>Friend list: Rarity? Pinkie Pie, BonBon, Lyra, and Golden Harvest.
  84. >>Family: Granny Smith, Big Macintosh, Applejack and Applebloom.
  85. “Oh, Ah’ve got to get back home fer chores…”
  86. >”Alright, see you later today then!”
  87. >…shoot, did you just say you’d play with her today?
  88. >No…just that you’d be her friend. Hmm…
  89. >Well, if you complete chores and the fortress, then you should have time.
  90. >You nod, wave and hustle back home.
  91.
  92. >Big Macintosh’s sudden leave of absence was not paid any mind…except by Colgate, who left in a huff after sunrise.
  93. >Chores naturally took an extra HOUR. After all, Big Macintosh was the most industrious of the Apple family, the strongest, largest and fastest too.
  94. >The division of labor for the day left Granny to sort apples, Applejack in the orchard, and you watching Applebloom.
  95. “Excellent…”
  96. >You wave to AJ and Granny as they head out to work and turn back to your current charge…
  97. >Hey, where’d she go?
  98. >Inside the house are a few couches, a rocking chair, stairs, the table and the kitchen.
  99. >A foal guard door blocks the stairs, to prevent falling shenanigans.
  100. >So where is little Applebloom?
  101. >Giggling from around the bend raises your suspicions.
  102. >You jump around the couch to the other side, with a large grin.
  103. “Gotcha-”
  104. >Not there…
  105. >More giggling…under the couch?
  106. >You hit the deck and lift a flap on the end of the couch.
  107. >Light spills under the seats, revealing a giddy Applebloom.
  108. >She squeals and skitters out the other side, giggling.
  109. >You get back up and hop over the couch, then grab the filly and hoist her into the air.
  110. “Oh, you think it’s funny?”
  111. >She smiles and coos.
  112. “Well, then Ah’ll give you a reason to laugh!”
  113. >You bring her into one arm and begin to tickle her.
  114. >She flails, giggling and gasping under your five digit oppression.
  115. “Ha-ha!”
  116. >You lay her onto the couch to further destroy her sides.
  117. “The hands ‘ave been doubled! You stand no chance fer survive, make yer tahm!”
  118.
  119. >…okay…time…for that…fort.
  120. >It took over 2 hours to finally wear Applebloom out and get her to fall asleep.
  121. >But it was worth it. Not even midday and you can work on that fort.
  122. >…just one thing: what was it going to be made of?
  123. >You sigh, taking a seat next to the sleeping Applebloom and begin to think about what it was you wanted to make.
  124. >A castle, duh…but that wasn’t happening anytime soon.
  125. >And, if the fort was too large, you’d need to build it in the barn or outside.
  126. >Okay then, maybe you would just build a rough draft fort…
  127. >You’re gonna need pencils from upstairs, which you can’t cross because of the barrier on them.
  128. >Or just build a preliminary fort from pillows and couch cushions!
  129. >…but Applebloom JUST fell asleep. Waking her now would be annoying.
  130. >You hit the back of your head against the couch.
  131. >What is up with everything not working out? First this storm of maes stuff, then chores today, Applebloom-proofed house…
  132. >You cross your arms and pout.
  133. “Tain’t fair.”
  134. >You eye the couch again. Maybe if you simply lifted the part with Applebloom, you could begin construction just at -1 cushion.
  135. >Better than nothing, you guess.
  136. >With all due care, you extricate the filly and the offending cushion and then begin construction, using the very couch as the base.
  137. >Starting out with a floor and a whole wall was pretty beneficial, after all.
  138. >Cushions one and two, ready, pillows 1-5 prepared.
  139. “Let’s do this thang.”
  140.
  141. >Minutes later you look upon your handiwork and despair.
  142. >Sure, it was stable, large enough for you and maybe another pony or two, but it wan nowhere NEAR as cool as Applejack’s club/tree house.
  143. >You hear a noise behind you.
  144. >You whip your head to the the source.
  145. >Applebloom.
  146. >You look at her cautiously and take an apprehensive sniff.
  147. “Wuh-oh.”
  148. >Yeah, that’s a stinker.
  149. >This day is never going to end, will it?
  150.
  151. >Diaper changed, fed, burped, played with and put back to sleep.
  152. >The list of hoops you jump through to have some time to your fortress is staggering.
  153. >Speaking of, you didn’t expect to put prying Applebloom off your leg on the list, but as you look down, you see it’s gonna have to happen.
  154. “Why, Applebloom?”
  155. >She smiles and clings on more tightly.
  156. ”Why?”
  157. >She nuzzles your leg and giggles.
  158. >Sighing for probably the hundredth time today, you walk like Frankenstein over to the crib and tug at Applebloom, using your tickle attack to make her release her grip in a laughing fit.
  159.
  160. >It’s afternoon.
  161. >Your fort is miserable.
  162. >You’re miserable.
  163. >Applebloom is…asleep, thankfully.
  164. “Oh yeah…”
  165. >You remember Golden Harvest saying she’d see you later.
  166. >Did that mean you go to her or was she going to show up here?
  167. >Your worries cease when Applejack, Granny Smith and Golden Harvest all walk in at once.
  168. >“Hooo-ee! Ah’m ready fer supper, who else is hungry?”
  169. >You raise a n eyebrow.
  170. >”Hello Anonymous, I said I would see you later, and here I am!”
  171. >”Heh, you’d think after all that trouble getting Big Mac to a safe zone, you’d stay away from fillies!”
  172. >You stick your finger at your throat and gag.
  173. “Ah met her this morning. We’re friends now.”
  174. >Golden Harvest beams and sits at the table.
  175. >”Yes, and as your friend I came to see you like I said I would! We’re neighbors, after all, too!”
  176. >You roll your eyes.
  177. >This is going to happen every day, isn’t it?
