  1. This strat attempts to use Feraligatr's ability, Torrent, to save turns and manipulate the AI throughout the Shadow Pokemon Lab and the first part of Realgam Tower.
  2.
  3. You can safely hold high Torrent for every fight in the lab, plus the first three fights of Realgam Tower (Arton, Baila and Ein). However, getting and maintaining high Torrent can be challenging, depending on your stats.
  4.
  5. -----
  6.
  7. Ideally, the strat goes something like this:
  8.
  9. (Enter Myron at full HP after the free heal)
  10. - MYRON: Helping Hand+Surf (2 Sparks = very high Torrent, and then you OHKO both Voltorbs for a 1-turn fight)
  11. - COLE: Normal strats (Torrent only saves time if you crit Remoraid)
  12. - COREN: Protect+Psychic Magnemite, then Surf+Psychic Electrode (adjust depending on combo, but generally save a turn, and never get hit by Thunder unless you miss favorable Magneton range)
  13. - LARE: Normal strats, but Bite Carvanha to take 7 damage if necessary
  14. - VANA: Normal strats, but can save a turn by hitting damage ranges (50% Surf Zubat, 100% SurF Swablu, 50% Surf+Psychic Forretress)
  15. - LESAR: Normal strats
  16. - TANIE: Bite+Psychic Granbull, Surf+Psychic Linoone (Surf OHKOs in Torrent, so can use the faster Bite on turn 1)
  17. - KOTAN: Normal strats (no difference with good Speed, but with bad Speed, you can save a turn+death by hitting a 50% Ampharos range with Psychic so Magneton takes a full Torrent Surf)
  18. - REMIL: Normal strats
  19. - SKRUB: Normal strats, but 100% consistent because no Wobbuffet damage ranges
  20. - EIN 1: Normal strats
  21. - Instead of using a healing machine, Hyper Potion+Ether Espeon
  22. - ARTON: Surf+Psychic Delibird, Surf+Psychic (Piloswine dies to the first Torrent Surf, so you save animations and take no damage)
  23. - BAILA: Normal strats
  24. - EIN 2: Manip Dig/Fly from Rhydon and Crobat so you never get Protect and Toxic. 100% consistent unless Starmie lead (details below)
  25.
  26. Turns saved: ~5
  27.
  28. Unfortunately, many Gatrs have HP and Sp. Def IVs that are too high to get Torrent from Spark x2, which makes the Helping Hand strat worthless. However, these Gatrs can take an Espeon Psychic from full HP. You could perform this manipulation on the Cole fight, ideally with the Aipom/Castform combo, with 5-10 seconds of time loss:
  29.
  30. 1: Bite+Psychic Castform (Castform dies, send out Remoraid)
  31. 2: Bite Remoraid+Psychic Aipom (both die, send out Furret)
  32. 3: Surf+Psychic Feraligatr (Torrent Surf OHKOs Furret)
  33.
  34. There are many other ways of getting Torrent, such as tanking a Thunder from Electrode with godly Sp. Def, but the Spark and Psychic strats seem most consistent.
  35.
  36. Keeping high Torrent is slightly easier, but not free. Aside from Carvanha's Rough Skin, there is no fast, consistent way to take minor damage. So if Spark/Psychic puts Gatr at 38 HP, for example, your only options would be 31 or 38 HP. Most Gators will risk Shadow Rush damage ranges with 31 HP and come out of Torrent at L41/42/43 with 38. Also, a high Psychic roll could put Gatr below 30 HP, and you might not have a Potion left to heal into high Torrent. Risking damage ranges in mid-Torrent is probably worth it if you have Revives (which you should).
  37.
  38. The main threat in the lab is Remil's Forretress, since does variable damage up to 41 and usually gets a turn. Lare's Murkrow is not a threat because you can simply Protect its Night Shade while 2HKOing with Return.
  39.
  40. Two more complications arise late in the lab:
  41. 1) Remil's Kecleon generally kills Feraligatr from high Torrent when it is a normal type, which causes it to target Feraligatr. You can manipulate its type by using Surf/Bite/Blizzard/Psychic, thus avoiding the death, but you'll still have to heal out of low Torrent for Ein. Also, multiple Blizzard misses can cause you to die to Vibrava.
  42. 2) Ein's Altaria seems to count Pursuit's damage as double, meaning Gatrs with low Sp. Def will need to be at 35+ HP to avoid a potentially deadly AI shift. This isn't too concerning, because you need 30+ HP for Ein anyway.
  43.
  44. Since you need high Torrent for Ein 1, you might enter Ein 2 outside of Crobat's Fly range, thus allowing Protect and Toxic. You can likely fix this by Returning Feraligatr on the last turn against Arton (Surf will still kill Glalie).
  45.
  46. Ein 2 seems to be 100% consistent if you enter at proper HP. Here are the strats:
  47.
  48. Rhydon/Crobat
  49. 1: Bite+Psychic Crobat (Crobat dies; Starmie takes damage; Rhydon goes underground)
  50. 2: Protect+X Special (Gatr blocks Dig and Psychic)
  51. 3: Surf+Psychic Starmie (Rhydon and Starmie die)
  52. 4: Protect+Psychic Pelipper (Pelipper dies; Gatr blocks Thunder)
  53. 5: Surf+Psychic Raikou (Raikou dies)
  54.
  55. Rhydon/Pelipper
  56. 1: Bite+Psychic Pelipper (Pelipper dies; Starmie takes damage; Rhydon goes underground)
  57. 2: Protect+X Special (Gatr blocks Dig and Psychic)
  58. 3: Surf+Psychic Starmie (Rhydon and Starmie die)
  59. 4: Protect+Psychic Crobat (Crobat dies; Gatr blocks Thunder)
  60. 5: Surf+Psychic Raikou (Raikou dies)
  61.
  62. Rhydon/Starmie
  63. 1: Switch to Plusle+Psychic Starmie (Plusle dies; Rhydon goes underground)
  64. 2: Protect+Psychic Starmie (Starmie dies; Gatr blocks Dig)
  65. 3: Surf+Psychic Crobat (Rhydon and Crobat die)
  66. 4: Protect+Psychic Raikou (Raikou probably lives in red; Pelipper uses Rain Dance)
  67. 5: Bite Pelipper+Return Raikou (Raikou dies; Pelipper uses Surf)
  68. 6: Bite+Psychic Pelipper (Pelipper dies)
  69.
  70. The third strat is slower than the other two unless you get a weak Raikou.
