- The creature is canny. It presses the advantage by ripping away rifles, rushing back and forth at wild speeds to claw and slap with its tail. Becker’s soldier’s instincts tell him to protect his fellow marines. A much more primal voice tells him to run.
- He charges toward the contractors, aggressively pointing to the elevators that will take them into the storehouses. There’s a strangled cry from Private Rankin, and Becker turns around just in time to see the thing stomp the unlucky woman to the ground and rip her head from her body. Her PRAE gear uselessly pops under its feet; the alien is careful to avoid the reactive blasts.
- Ames slaps a clip into his rifle, but his target bounds over to him, sinking her teeth around his entire face. A serrated tongue plunges through the back of his skull, and Marsalis throws his body to the ground. It yanks his pulse rifle off the floor and takes aim at Sergeant Wallace.
- Several rounds of depleted uranium wipe the goatee right off Wallace’s face.
