Gill was surrounded. Exhausted. Running out of Aura. If she waited too much longer she really would run out, and then everyone would run out, including her brother. If she took some Aura back now, she might survive a little longer in this fight against the Grimm and the Shade students and the faculty, not to mention the damn civilians from the city.

She looked across at Jax, who was still protected by his king’s guard from the group of Grimm closing in on them. The shadow of a Ravager passed overhead.

She locked eyes with her brother for a moment. They’d always had a special connection beyond just the Aura linking them, so she knew he would understand when she shrugged and mouthed, I’m sorry.

Jax’s eyes widened. He shook his head.

Gill began making her way toward her twin, forcing a path to the Grimm and reaching out to the Crown soldiers as she passed them pulling back whatever she needed for her and Jax.

Fox noticed how much Gill Asturias’s Aura had dimmed. And as she walked past her soldiers, their lights flickered out and hers flared brighter. Their bottomless supply had been cut off. They were on their own now.
