TIFu French fries

I hyped up everyone at my home and told them to be ready for crispy, tasty French fries. After cutting and boiling, I sprinkled Cornflour for crispy fires except for the fact that it wasn't cornflour but Baking powder and i started frying. I didn't realise the fact until my sister tasted the fries and told me it was bitter. I had already served some of it to my parents and grandmother but they didn't say anything which led me to believe it was okay. Not only did i waste lots of potatoes and the oil which was completely bitter, but my hardwork. The taste was really very bad and i still kind of can feel it in my mouth. My parents said that i was overconfident and should have asked them before doing anything new. So now, i am afraid of entering the kitchen to even make myself tea.
The only supportive person was my grandmother who said it was okay and told me to make her fries someday after i learn how to.
PS- Thankgod we had some leftover meals.

TL;DR i mistook baking powder for cornflower and ruined the french fries which i was so eagerly waiting for.
