  1. Windows 7 to Windows Julia transformation tutorial

  5. 1. Create system restore point
  6.  
  7. 1. Open the start menu, right click on 'Computer' and select 'Properties'.
  8. This should open the 'View basic information about your computer' window in Control Panel.
  9. 2. On the left-hand sidebar, click on 'System protection'. A window should open.
  10. 3. Click on 'Create...' at the bottom of the window.
  11. 4. Name the restore as you wish, and click on 'Create'.
  12. 5. Once the restore point has been created, you should get a message stating "The restore point was created successfully." Click OK.
  13. If you encounter any errors, you can easily restore it to previous state:
  14. Restoring from a System Restore backup
  15. 1. Restart your computer
  16. 2. After BIOS/UEFI loading click quickly F8 couple of times
  17. 3. Select "Repair computer" and click Enter
  18. 4. Wait for load System Repair tool
  19. 5. Click on 'System Restore...' at the top
  20. 6. Click next, and then select the backup you made previously. (Noted by the name you typed earlier).
  21. 7. Select next, and then finish.
  22. System restore will now restore your PC to the way it was before following the tutorial, and hence, should be back to the Windows 7 look and feel.
  23. 2. Required updates

  25. 1. Open the 1 - Required update folder, and 1. Update folder
  26. 2. Launch the update based on your architecture (x86.msu or x64.msu)
  27. 3. When prompted click OK.
  28. 4. Open the 2. Required frameworks folder, and 1. Visual C Runtimes folder
  29. 5. Run "install_all.bat" as Administrator
  30. 6. Wait for the end installing
  31. 7. Open 2. .NET 4.5 folder
  32. 8. Run "dotnetfx45_full_x86_x64.exe" installer and follow the instructions
  33. 9. When install is complete, restart your PC.

  36. 3. Install the theme
  37. 1. Open the 2 - Theme folder.
  38. 2. Open the 1. UniversalThemePatcher folder, and then launch UniversalThemePatcher for your architecture (x86 or x64).
  39. 3. Patch each of the 3 files by clicking the 'Patch' button on the corresponding file.
  40. 4. Restart when prompted.
  41. 5. Open the 2. Theme folder
  42. 6. Copy whole folder to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
  43. 7. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')
  44. 8. Select the "Windows Julia Aero" theme.

  47. 4. Start Button

  49. 1. Open the 3. Start Button folder.
  50. 2. Run the OpenShellInstall file, and follow the instructions
  51. 3. When install is complete, click on the start button.
  52. 4. When the OpenShell settings page opens, click the Backup button at the bottom, and select Load from XML file . Then, open the WinJulia.xml file.
  53. 5. Back in the settings window, check the Replace Start Button option, then click Custom and click the Pick image... button. Open the StartButton image, and click OK on the settings window.

  55. 5 - Taskbar

  57. 1. Right-click the taskbar and click Properties
  58. 2. Check the Use small icons box, and change Taskbar buttons: to Never combine.
  59. 3. Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.
  60. 4. Right-click the taskbar, and go to Toolbars>>New toolbar...
  61. 5. In the window that appears, paste the following bold text into the bottom text-box
  62. %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
  63. and click Select Folder.
  64. 6. Right-click the taskbar, and UNCHECK Lock the taskbar
  65. 7. Right-click the Quick Launch text (look to the left of the status icons), and uncheck both Show Title and Show Text
  66. 8. Drag the folder to the left of the start button, and change the size to fit the taskbar buttons.
  67. 9. Ensure you unpin any taskbar icons from the taskbar. You can add QuickLaunch icons by dragging applications from the start menu to the quick-launch area on the taskbar.
  68. 1. Open the 4 - Taskbar folder.
  69. 2. Run the 7tt_setup installer
  70. 3. Follow the steps to install it
  71. 4. Open up 7+ Taskbar Tweaker application from the start menu
  72. 5. Open the 7tt_settings image from the folder, and adjust your settings accordingly
  73. 6. Close the 7+ Taskbar Tweaker window.

  76. 6 - Login screen
  77. 1. Open the 5 - Login screen folder
  78. 2. Run enable background change.cmd as Administrator
  79. 3. Run Win7LogonBackgroundChanger.exe
  80. 4. Select 5 - Login screen folder

  82. 7 - Icons
  83. 1. Open the 6 - Icons folder.
  84. 2. Run the CustomizerGod.exe
  85. 3. Click the menu that matches folders name (like Shell Icons, Volume Icons etc.)
  86. 4. Click on the icon and select all icons (Ctrl+A)
  87. 5. Click on the Change and select folder that matches actually selected menu
  88. 6. Repeat steps for each folder (except Desktop Icons)
  89. 7. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')
  90. 8. Click on Change desktop icons
  91. 9. Click icon and open Desktop icons folder and select imageres.dll - repeat the step for each icon
  92. 10. Install SetupNaa1.5.exe and run NetAnimate, select Windows XP icons from dropdown.
  93. 11. Drag NetAnimate icon to show icons and hide original network icon from the taskbar.

  95. Do you have Internet Explorer shortcut on desktop or/and in Quick Launch toolbar? If yes, change icon for it.

  97. 12. Right Click on the Internet Explorer

  100. 15. Select Internet Explorer.ico from Desktop Icons folder

  102. 8 - Boot Screen
  103. 1. Open the 7 - Boot Screen folder.
  104. 2. Run the Win7BootUpdater2.exe program as Administrator.
  105. 3. In the window that appears, in the Animation menu select Static Image
  106. 4. In the file dialog, open the WindowsJuliaLogo.png file.

  109. 7. Set Position to 491

  112. 10. You can now close the Windows 7 Boot Updater window.

  114. 9 - Cursors
  115. 1. Open the 8 - Cursors folder
  116. 2. Right Click on the install.inf file
  117. 3. Click Install
  118. 4. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')
  119. 5. Click Change mouse pointers
  120. 6. Select ClassicAero Cursors from the menu
  121. 7. Click Apply and OK

  123. 10 - Sounds
  124. 1. Open the 1 - Required update folder
  125. 2. Open the 3. AdvancedRun folder
  126. 3. Open folder that matches your architecture (advancedrun-x64 or advancedrun-x86)
  127. 4. Run AdvancedRun.exe
  128. 5. In the AdvancedRun window, select TrustedInstaller in Run As... menu
  129. 6. In Program to Run paste this - cmd.exe
  130. 7. In Start Directory paste this - C:\Windows
  131. 8. In Command Line window type this - rmdir /s "Media"
  132. 9. Type Y and Enter
  133. 10. Close cmd and Advanced Run window
  134. 11. Copy Media folder from the 9 - Sounds folder to C:\Windows

  136. 11 - Winver Branding
  137.  
  138. 1. Open the 10 - Branding folder.
  139. 2. Copy the basebrd.dll file from C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd\ into the Step 10 folder
  140. 3. Install reshacker_setup.exe
  141. 4. Open Resource Hacker, and drag the basebrd.dll file from the Step 10 folder into the window.
  142. 4. On the left-hand side, open the Bitmap folder.
  143. 5a. Right-click the 120 : 1033 resource, and select Replace bitmap.
  144. 5b. Select Open file with new bitmap... and open j_winver1.bmp from the Step 10 folder, and then click Replace.
  145. 5c. Repeat step 5a and 5b for 1120 : 1033 and 2120 : 1033
  146. 6a. Right-click the 121 : 1033 resource, and select Replace bitmap.
  147. 6b. Select Open file with new bitmap... and open j_winver2.bmp from the Step 10 folder, and then click Replace.
  148. 6c. Repeat step 6a and 6b for 1121 : 1033 and 2121 : 1033
  149. 7. Repeat 1-6 steps from the 10 - Sounds step
  150. 8. In Start Directory paste this - C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd
  151. 9. In Command Line window type this - del basebrd.dll
  152. 10. Copy basebrd.dll from 10 - Branding folder to C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd
  153. 11. You can now press Win+R, type winver, press enter, and see the new branding!

  155. 12 - System font and Window Borders

  157. 1. Open the 11 - System font and Window Borders folder
  158. 2. Install WinaeroTweaker-1.40.0.0-setup.exe
  159. 3. Launch Winaero Tweaker
  160. 4. Navigate to the Window Borders section on the left-hand side
  161. 5. Set the Border width to 2, and the Border padding to 6.
  162. 6. Select Apply changes
  163. 7. Navigate to the System Font section on the left-hand side
  164. 8. Select Use the following font and then click the Change system font... button
  165. 9. Select Tahoma from the window that appears, and then click OK.
  166. 10. Repeat 5-7 steps for the Icons, Menus, Message Font, Statusbar Font and Windows Title Bars sections.

  169. 13 - Disable Aero
  170.  
  171. 1. Open the 12 - Disable Aero folder
  172. 2. Run the Disable Aero.bat
  173. If you prefer Aero-based theme simply run the Enable Aero.bat and do not take above steps

  175. Becouse Windows will re-enable Aero after restart, we are going to auto-disable Aero:
  176. 3. Open the Task Scheduler
  177. 4. Click on the Task Scheduler Library section
  178. 5. Right-Click on blank space on the list of tasks
  179. 6. Select "Import Task..."
  180. 7. Open "Disable Aero - Task Scheduler.xml"
  181. 8. Click OK

  183. 14 - Wallpaper

  185. 1. Open the 13 - Wallpaper folder
  186. 2. Right-Click on the Wallpaper.png
  187. 3. Set as desktop background

  189. 15 - Sidebar

  192. 2. Install the Sidebar.exe

  197. 1. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')
