  1. >You crouch down next to Twilight Sparkle and gently place your hand on her mane, hoping not to disturb her
  2. >She instantly shakes you off, then swats you with her tail as though you were a fly
  3. >You were worried that would happen
  4.
  5. >"Huddle up everypony, I need you closer together!"
  6. >"That means you, Anon" Twilight adds without looking back
  7.
  8. >You don't have many options left
  9. >You hate that it's come to this, but if you drag things out any longer you risk looking more awkward than usual
  10. >You put your arm around Twilight and pull her in a bit more forcefully than necessary
  11. >"You KNOW that's not what I meant Anon, you need to take this seriously" She says
  12. >She shakes you away more forcefully this time, still without looking back
  13.
  14. >"Hurry up now, I need this for tomorrow's printing" The pony with the camera says urgently
  15. >The rest of the group are also starting to get restless
  16. >Rainbow Dash in particular is getting agitated
  17. >"I've got a nap to get back to, can't you sit around on your own time?"
  18.
  19. >Worst case scenario ; you only have one option left
  20. >You place your arm over Twilight, hand on the other side of her, arm curled around her neck without actually touching her
  21. >The pony with the camera seems satisfied, takes a picture and is off in a cloud of dust
  22. >You almost want to chase him down, stop him from using that picture
  23. >Half the town is going to be laughing at you tomorrow for that
  24. >But you know you could never chase him down at this rate
  25. >What's done is done
  26.
  27. >Tomorrow, the paper is going to go out, and on the front page is going to be the main 6 cuddling up to each other
  28. >And you
  29. >Awkwardly squished into the middle, no one touching you
  30. >Your hand hovering in mid-air above the Princess of Friendship
  31.
  32. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  33.
  34. >It's been like this almost since you showed up in Equestria, but it started like a dream come true
  35. >Everyone was interested in this strange new creature that had shown up, everyone wanted to meet the "human"
  36. >Twilight and her friends instantly latched on to you
  37. >You were declared a part of their group and dragged around on adventures
  38. >At first it was all so fun and new, but as time wore on you started to notice a few trends
  39.
  40. >You never actually got to help with friendship problems or monster attacks
  41. >Your advice was routinely ignored as much as your 'attacks' on the monsters were
  42. >But the group insisted that you were one of them and dragged you along anyway
  43.
  44. >What felt like a bigger problem was...
  45. >Well, frankly, no one wanted to touch you
  46. >When it came to each other, the group was constantly hugging or so close their noses were pressed up against each other
  47. >But when it came to you, it was a different story altogether
  48. >You were always left out of group hugs and trying to join in made everyone awkwardly dis-join
  49. >Any contact with a pony was ended quickly, with force if convenient
  50. >Questioning the group about their behavior led nowhere, they just denied your concerns, said you were overreacting
  51.
  52. >Spike was the worst
  53. >He saw plainly what was going on, but to him you were just a big joke
  54. >Sure, he was forgotten and left behind once in a while, and his help often just made things worse
  55. >Once in a while, however, he'd save the day, and the ponies never shied away from hugging him
  56. >His interactions with you mostly involved him laughing at you until you walked away
  57.
  58. >Honestly, Spike looking down on you felt worse than Pinkie not showing up to your birthday party
  59. >And that had been a low point
  60. >She hadn't even apologized, just said she'd had a busy day at Sugarcube Corner and was too tired to party
  61. >That one wouldn't have hurt so much if it hadn't been such an obvious lie
  62.
  63. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  64.
  65. >You hadn't managed to get a job
  66. >You mostly blamed that on how the town ponies reacted to you ever since your novelty had worn off
  67. >So the Princess of Friendship had given you a room in her castle
  68. >After whatever today's disaster had been (you'd long since stopped paying attention to them) you were resting in your room
  69. >You spent a lot of time doing that, if only to avoid further awkward contact between you and Spike or the ponies
  70.
  71. "Today is going to end differently"
  72. >You talk so little nowadays you'd nearly forgotten the sound of your own voice
  73. "Today, I'm going to make a new friend, even if it kills me!"
  74. >The determination in your voice found no match in your spirit, but you exit your room anyway
  75.
  76. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  77.
  78. >"Hello there Anon"
  79. >You find Twilight, Spike in tow, nearing your room as you exit
  80. >"I was just about to pay you a visit."
  81. >You and Spike cringe in unison at her use of "I" instead of "we"
  82. >Spike can be a real asshole sometimes, but you still feel bad for him being forgotten again
  83. >Besides, he's nowhere near as bad as Rainbow Dash
  84.
  85. "Hi Twilight"
  86. >You say with all the enthusiasm you can muster
  87. >Which is none
  88.
  89. >The Princess tips her head
  90. >"What's the matter Anon?"
  91. "Nothing, I'm just busy is all"
  92. >You give her a moment to say what she wants, but she doesn't volunteer anything, only looked at you worriedly
  93. "What do you want with me?"
  94.
  95. >"Anon, we've been through this, we're friends I just want-"
  96. >"Oh! You mean just now" She says with a blush over the misunderstanding
  97. >"I just wanted to see how you were getting along. You've seemed depressed lately"
  98.
  99. "That's nice of you Twilight" You say in earnest
  100. "I was just feeling a little lonely and thought I would try and make a new friend"
  101. >"This isn't about that 'no contact' thing again, is it?"
  102. >"I told you, it's all in your head. You hugged me twice just this morning!"
  103. >You decline to mention you were shaken off both times
  104. >You've been down this path before, you know it doesn't lead anywhere productive
  105.
  106. "I know I have you and Spike and the girls, I just figure it can't hurt to have one more, right?"
  107. >"No, I suppose not" Twilight says with some thought
  108. >"Well, then I wish you good luck"
  109. >Without another word, Twilight wanders off, Spike still diligently following
  110.
  111. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  112.
  113. >Wandering around town you can't help but feel something is off
  114. >The streets are empty, vendors closed, windows shuttered
  115. >It normally looks like this AFTER you wander through, not before
  116. >Did someone tip them off?
  117.
  118. >It takes you a moment, but there's no mistaking it. This belongs to the GREAT and POWERFUL TRIXIE!
  119. >You can't believe you hadn't thought of it before
  120. >She's an outcast, just like you. She'll gladly be friends!
  121.
  122. >Moving to the front of the carriage you spot her talking to herself
  123. >"I guess Ponyville still hasn't forgiven me for my less-than-friendly takeover. Everyone is still avoiding me"
  124.
  125. "I'm not avoiding you"
  126. >You step forward, so she can see you better
  127. >"By the sisters, what manner of beast are you?"
  128. "My name is Anon. I wasn't around the last time you were in town, but I've heard lots about you. Do you want to be friends?"
  129. >You give the best smile you can muster
  130. >"Does Trixie really appear so desperate as to be friends with something so fat and smelly?"
  131. >Without warning she bursts into tears
  132. >You think it may be best to just leave her be for now, she's really going at it.
  133.
  134. >Walking back to the castle through the empty streets, you begin to ponder what she said
  135. >Were you really fat and smelly? You hadn't ever considered everyone's reactions actually being your own fault
  136. >You stop in front of the castle. Instead of going inside, you go to the side and look at your reflection
  137. >You look awful!
  138. >You've really let yourself go
  139. >It seems all the snacks and sweets the ponies have around all the time really affected your waistline
  140. >And no wonder you stink, with this much fat, you must sweat like a hog
  141. >Have you really been so preoccupied with other people you never noticed how bad you were yourself?
  142.
  143. "That's it. Today, I may not have made a friend, but I have made a decision. No more of this"
  144. "From today onward, I'm going to become a person that I want to be friends with"
  145. "Only then will I try to befriend other people"
  146. >This time, you felt the determination
  147.
  148. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  149.
  150. "This is terrible"
  151. "Nothing could possibly be worse than this"
  152. "I hate running so much"
  153. >You keep thinking these things to yourself, but you know it isn't that bad
  154. >You've been running every morning since you made the decision to better yourself
  155. >Barely any progress has been made, but you're grateful for what you have
  156.
  157. >Around once a week Pinkie Pie brings a bunch of sweets over to the castle for Twilight
  158. >Truth be told, you'd been eating over half of them each week
  159. >But not anymore
  160. >No more sweets, no more snacks, not even the pony versions of cheetos and mountain dew
  161. >You used to make fun of people that ate those, but the versions the ponies made were just so good
  162. >But that didn't matter any more
  163. >What mattered was liking yourself, and that meant not eating foods like that
  164.
  165. >You walked for a minute to catch your breath, then started running again
  166. >You did this until you couldn't continue any more, then walked back to the castle
  167. >Then you'd do pushups, sit-ups, anything you could think of, until your whole body was tired.
  168. >In those things at least it seemed like you were making progress
  169. >When you started, you could barely do a single push up
  170. >Now you can do nearly 20 at a time, just like they do in the army!
  171.
  172. >Then, to finish your routine, you take a nice, long shower
  173. >You can't see much of a difference in yourself, but you feel so much better about yourself you know you'll be swimming in friends soon
  174.
  175. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  176.
  177. >It's been several months since you started running
  178. >You mostly dropped the other exercises early on in favor of some warm-up exercises for running with some stretches afterward
  179. >You didn't really know any runners, so you had to guess from what you remembered of gym class way back in school
  180. >Your running was finally improving
  181. >You'd lost a lot of weight too
  182.
  183. >Still no real friends though. Other than yourself, that is
  184. >All the ponies still mostly avoided you.
  185. >They treated you spending all morning running around town then all day along the edge of Everfree Forest as strange
  186. >More strange than you were before
  187. >But you didn't care
  188. >You still had one friend
  189. >Yourself
  190.
  191. >And maybe, just maybe, if you kept this up, you'd have another the next time Trixie rolled around
  192. >You hadn't had a chance to say this to her, but she had always been one of your favorites
  193. >You'd never had a waifu or anything, but if you had to choose one, Trixie would have made the short list
  194. >And now, somehow, you'd made her a goal
  195. >Maybe because she wasn't one of the ponies you were around all the time
  196. >Maybe because you were an outcast like her
  197. >All that mattered now is that when you started running, you did it for yourself
  198. >Now, you do it for her
  199.
  200. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  201.
  202. >"Hey Anon, looks like you've finally gotten serious about something
  203. >You want Rainbow Dash to fuck off so bad
  204. >She's taken up 'following' you around on your runs
  205. >And by following, you mean flying circles around you and then making fun of you
  206. >Rainbow Dash pulls so far ahead you can barely see her before she circles around and flies back to you
  207. >"Well, not THAT serious"
  208. >And there it is, the little insult that has to follow every compliment from Dash
  209. >Always good, but never good enough
  210. >Specifically, never as good as her
  211. >"Don't worry, not everyone can be as AWESOME as I am"
  212. >"I'll meet you back at where we started, I'll just nap until you show up"
  213. >"Then Twilight wanted you back at the castle, so hurry up"
  214.
  215. >That was strange
  216. >Not Dash going on ahead, she did that almost every day
  217. >But ever since you became serious about running, Twilight and the others had mostly left you to your own devices
  218. >They'd finally stopped bothering you about problems that you could never help with anyway
  219. >But now it seems she's changed her mind
  220. >Maybe it has to do with the group warming up to you
  221. >None of the ponies would comfortably touch you yet, but you could hold a conversation with most of them now
  222. >You hadn't noticed previously, but none of the ponies used to talk to you directly much
  223. >Now, between the running you do and the reading you do in the evenings, Twilight had been really talking with you
  224. >Maybe she was ready to start bringing you on adventures again
  225. >Maybe you are finally ready to go on adventures in the first place
  226.
  227. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  228.
  229. >"Rainbow Dash, when I asked you to bring Anon here, I meant right away, what took you so long?
  230.
  231. >"Hey, I can't help it if he's not as fast as me"
  232. >"Besides, the exercise is good for him. You have to admit he doesn't look as terrible as he used to"
  233.
  234. >"RAINBOW DASH! That's very rude of you to say"
  235.
  236. >Rainbow just rolls her eyes and drifts away as Twilight dismisses her
  237.
  238. "You wanted to talk to me?"
  239.
  240. >"Yes Anon. It's about all this running you've been doing lately"
  241.
  242. "Like Dash said, it's good for me"
  243.
  244. >"Yes, I'm sure it is, but this is about more than your health"
  245. >"The fact of the matter is, when I welcomed you into this castle it was because you were new here and had no way of supporting yourself"
  246. >"I've let you stay as long as you have because you're completely non-magical"
  247. >"I thought having no magic at all, not even a cutie mark, would prevent you from ever being able to support yourself"
  248. >"You just couldn't compete with ponies, even Earth ponies, without some special talent of your own"
  249. >"I mean you can't even buck apples"
  250. >"But I've seen how hard you've been working, and I'm convinced you can find meaningful work to do"
  251. >"Even without a special talent"
  252.
  253. >You hesitate for a moment
  254. "Wait, are you saying I'm no longer welcome in the castle?"
  255.
  256. >"You'll always be welcome to visit, Anon, but yes, I think you should leave the castle"
  257. >"I realize this is short notice, so I understand if it takes you some time to find a job, and I'm not going to kick you out"
  258. >"But I'd like you out of the castle by the end of the month"
  259.
  260. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  261.
  262. Week 1
  263. >Things aren't going great
  264. >You went around town, looking for work or a place to stay again, but the town ponies still seem really uncomfortable being around you for any length of time
  265. >You aren't a hamplanet anymore, you've been working heavy on hygiene, you just don't know what they're reacting to
  266. >At first they all seemed so interested in you, it's only been over time they started avoiding you
  267. >Up until this point you had assumed it had been because you'd been becoming the worst kind of neckbeard
  268. >Now you just don't know what you're doing wrong
  269.
  270. >In an emergency effort, you put together a lean-to near a stream that flows from the Everfree Forest
  271. >It's not home, but with a month's worth of work you think you can make a nice little hut
  272. >You've even told Twilight that you think you've found a place, even though you don't know how you'll eat yet without her
  273.
  274. Week 2
  275. >shitshitshit
  276. >Turns out 'a month from now' and 'by the end of the month' don't mean the same thing
  277. >You could remain a basement dweller in the castle, but you already told Twilight you thought you had a place to stay
  278. >And the look of disappointment of Twilight's face when you said you thought you had longer nearly broke your heart
  279.
  280. >So, now you're moving out, and you need to upgrade that lean-to fast
  281. >There's only one group of ponies besides the main 6 that will even give you the time of day
  282. >It's time to go looking for favors
  283.
  284. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  285.
  286. >You've been waiting outside the elementary school all day
  287. >Totally not creepy
  288. >The police only questioned your behavior twice
  289. >You never even got arrested, though you have reason to believe some parents have been contacted
  290. >You high five yourself for not even shouting "Am I being detained"
  291. >You know you wanted to, but you doubt the reference would have been appreciated
  292.
  293. >Class is in right now, so you just decided to hang around the school until they finish up
  294. >In a manner that contains no creepiness whatsoever
  295. >Just because a grown man and near-total stranger is hanging around an elementary school so he can pick up a group of kids he needs some favors from-
  296. >Yeah, ok, so it might LOOK creepy, but really you're just doing this so you'll have a roof over your head at the end of the month
  297. >Which is NOW, apparently
  298.
  299. >Class eventually ends and you approach your marks (still not creepy) a group of 3 little fillies talking excitedly amongst themselves
  300. >They're reluctant to talk to you at first, but as you explain what you need they suddenly become excited
  301. >"CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS ; HOUSING CONTRACTORS!"
  302. >And just like that, you have a crew
  303. >You explain the location near the Everfree Forest you want to build in, but get no further before the CMC all split in different directions
  304. >With no way of knowing where they all went, you decide to go to the clearing you intend to build your house in and wait
  305.
  306. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  307.
  308. >You show up to what sounds like an argument
  309. >"Ya prolly shouldn't ah used a jackhammer Scootaloo. Ah'm pretty sure those are only used in road construction"
  310. >"Yeah, well you should have brought more boards. We don't even have enough to replace what he had built without us"
  311. >"GIRLS!" a breaking voice squeaks "We need to stop blaming each other and figure out how we're going to fix this pile of rubble before Anon gets here"
  312. >"He said this is the only place he has to live, how's he gonna react when he sees we destroyed it?"
  313. >"Ah think we're too late..."
  314.
  315. >Where you had spent a week building a clean little lean-to there is now only a pile of rubble
  316. >And a jackhammer
  317. >Where do they even get these things?
  318.
  319. >"We're sorry Anon, we destroyed your... "hoouuse" " Scootaloo says, unsure on the last word
  320. >"But we can make it up to you!" Sweetie Bell interjects
  321. >"My sister regularly gets orders for new work clothes from a group of construction ponies"
  322. >"I'm sure they'd help build you something if she gave up payment for an order"
  323. >"Yeah, Ah know that group. They order lunches from us in bulk" the small apple horse says
  324. >"If Ah did a little extra buckin' and cookin', I'm sure sis would let me trade some free meals for some work"
  325.
  326. "It's alright my little ponies"
  327. >You've wanted to say that since you got here
  328. "You all tried your best. I didn't have much work into that anyway. I'm sure I'll be able to build a hut on my own"
  329. "By the end of the week"
  330.
  331. >The group gives you puppy dog eyes
  332. >"Please Anon, we made you homeless, let us help you"
  333.
  334. >You're really surprised by this behavior. Only Twilight had previously pitied you enough to help you
  335. "Well, alright, you can try asking for a few favors. But nothing too... extreme. Promise?
  336.
  337. >"Promise, Anon" They say in unison
  338. >And like that, just like before, they all split in different directions, leaving you behind
  339. >Again
  340.
  341. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  342.
  343. "Ouch!"
  344. >You bash your foot into what must be the hundredth rock
  345. >"Sorry Anon, but we're almost there!" Applebloom exclaims
  346. >They're navigating you to where they claim your house is, fully built
  347. >Blindfolded, "For extra surprise"
  348. >But they aren't very good at directions
  349. >"Just a bit more this way Anon, but not too much" You get from Scootaloo
  350. >You try to make a turn, but trip over what feels like a tree root
  351. >"Not quite enough that way" Sweetie Bell chimes in
  352. >You better actually have something like a house at the end of this, or else
  353.
  354. >It would probably help immensely if one of them just grabbed your hand to lead you
  355. >Unfortunately they'd all been just as reluctant about that as they had about letting you take your blindfold off.
  356. >It seems Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon had been through the area recently
  357. >No one would be caught dead "holding hooves" with you with them around
  358. >Even if it was just so you could stop hitting things while blindfolded
  359.
  360. >After a few more minutes of stop and go every few feet as you hit something new, Sweetie Bell speaks up again
  361. >"Ok Anon, we're here, you can take the blindfold off"
  362. >Finally
  363. >About damn time
  364.
  365. >You remove the blindfold and are greeted by a cute little cottage where the pile of rubble used to be
  366. >It was just like the generic little places that Ponyville is predominantly made of
  367. >Going inside, you find it completely unfurnished, and not very big
  368. >It's honestly about like the shack you figured you'd spend a month building
  369. >It's perfect!
  370.
  371. >Now all you have to worry about is having no friends
  372. >And also living practically in the Everfree Forest
  373. >That shouldn't be too big of a deal
  374. >You'd been running around the area for months and never had any problems
  375. >What could possibly go wrong?
  376.
  377. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  378.
  379. >Something has gone terribly wrong
  380. >You actually fit in TOO well into the Everfree Forest
  381. >This place feels so much like a home to you, you rarely leave
  382. >There's actually a lot of food if you know where to look
  383. >It's doubtful you could have survived the wilds back on Earth, but it's so much easier here
  384. >But because you rarely leave, when you do you don't get the greatest reaction
  385. >The town ponies are now convinced that you're some sort of terrible monster
  386. >Although, by their standards you suppose you are
  387. >You've been eating fish(meat) from the stream, you live in the Everfree and spend all your time there
  388. >You've also become fit enough that you could probably break a pony over your knee
  389. >Not that you would
  390. >But they don't seem to know that
  391. >In fact, they seem convinced that you're going to eat them every time you come to town
  392. >Which just makes you want to come around less
  393.
  394. >You are working on getting more friends though
  395. >You've met a dragon that didn't bother to eat you
  396. >But only just
  397. >A group of living trees referring to themselves as 'dryads' that don't seem to mind you hanging around
  398. >But trees don't make the best company
  399. >They rarely talk, mostly getting enjoyment from swaying in the breeze
  400. >And you swear there's a sasquatch in the area that you intend to track down one of these days
  401. >But if you have to chase him down, how friendly will he be inclined to be?
  402.
  403. >But, but, but
  404.
  405. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  406.
  407. >It's doubtful you'll ever make any friends out here in the Everfree
  408. >But you've kept in contact with Twilight
  409. >She seems concerned over the reputation you've garnered in town as a monster
  410. >You tried playing up the dryads as friends, but Twilight was doubtful
  411. >One day she wouldn't even let you leave until she had cast some spell or another on you
  412. >It was supposed to gauge something, but you weren't really listening as to what
  413. >She said it would take a while for her to understand the strange results she got from the test spell
  414.
  415. >You'd also kept tabs on Trixie
  416. >She was actually quite the popular stage magician outside of Ponyville, and you'd been collecting any bit of new about her you could
  417. >Spike had become a total bro ever since you moved out into the Everfree and saved any news that passed through town about her for you
  418. >She was headed back this way
  419. >Any day now she'd stroll back through town, and there you'd be
  420. >Ready to...
  421. >Sweep her off her hooves?
  422. >You aren't entirely sure what you're going to do
  423. >Be friendly, you guess
  424. >You tried that last time and it didn't work, but you were dangerously close to donning a fedora at the time
  425. >You can only hope the improvements you've made to yourself will be enough
  426.
  427. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  428.
  429. >Today's the day
  430. >Trixie should be rolling into town this afternoon
  431. >Twilight has gone so far as to have Pinkie set up a welcoming celebration for her after the reception she received the last time she was in town
  432. >Trixie shows up and is greeted by banners and a parade into which her carriage is swiftly integrated
  433. >"What's going on? Where are you all leading the Great and Powerful Trixie? Trixie thought you all hated her"
  434. >So did you, but it appears the town ponies are all too caught up in the celebrations that Twilight declared to really be scared
  435. >Besides, Trixie is a borderline celebrity nowadays. How could anyone famous be mean?
  436. >At least, that's what most of Ponyville seems to think
  437.
  438. >You're just considering asking Twilight to throw something like this for you when Trixie rolls by you in the parade
  439. >Now is your chance to put all that hard work to use
  440. "TRIXIE"
  441. >Your shout is drowned out by the crowd
  442. >"Hey, watch it"
  443. >"Watch where you're going"
  444. >"Look out!"
  445. >The crowd protests as you start to push through it, trying to keep up with Trixie
  446. "TRIXIE"
  447. >You're now waving your arms like a spas as you shout at her, but she doesn't seem to notice you among the crowds
  448.
  449. >You finally push your way out of the crowd and into the parade
  450. >You sheepishly fall in line next to Trixie, pretending you belong there
  451.
  452. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  453.
  454. >"And what, praytell, are you?"
  455. "Hello, Trixie"
  456. >You can talk much more gently know that you're out of the crowds
  457. "I'm Anonymous the Human. You can call me Anon. We've actually met before, the last time you were in Ponyville"
  458. >You try to give a winning smile
  459. >"Trixie thinks she remembers now. Were you that lumbering creature that wanted to be... friends?"
  460. >She seems to hesitate at the word
  461. >"You look like you've done well for yourself since then"
  462. "Thank you. You know, I'd still like to be friends if that's alright. Would you like to hang out after the show?
  463. >Trixie cringes
  464. >"That would be... acceptable, I suppose"
  465. >The words seem to hurt her
  466. >You can see her tolerance for you wavering by the second
  467. >It's the same reaction as the other ponies
  468.
  469. >There are daggers in your heart
  470. >All the hope you'd had that you had finally become a likable individual fades in an instant
  471. >The girl you'd tried so hard for obviously wants nothing to do with you
  472. >The least you can do is give her that
  473.
  474. "Oh. Nevermind then, it's ok"
  475. >Trixie sighs with relief as you wander away, not mindful at all of the parade and celebrating ponies around you
  476.
  477. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  478.
  479. >Trixie does a show and leaves without much fanfare
  480. >Or more probably with, but you don't really care
  481. >None of it reaches you this far out of town anyway
  482.
  483. >You become more of a recluse than ever
  484. >You still run, it's gotten to the point where you feel weird when you don't
  485. >But you don't do it for her anymore
  486. >Habit is the only thing keeping you moving
  487.
  488. >You eat, you get dressed, you run, you clean yourself, then you wander the Everfree
  489. >Even creatures here seem to avoid you nowadays
  490. >You see a lot of interesting plants and old structures here and there, but you don't really pay it any mind
  491.
  492. >You've fallen out of contact with the main 6, even Twilight
  493. >She sends letters now and again
  494. >The first few were mostly tired pleasantries to which you never responded
  495. >After a while, you stopped reading them entirely
  496. >Soon after that, even those stopped coming
  497.
  498. >You were glad when they stopped, all they did is remind you of a time when you thought you had friends
  499.
  500. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  501.
  502. >Knock, knock, knock
  503.
  504. >It was the spring after the Trixie debacle and you just imagined someone knocking at your door
  505.
  506. >Knock, knock, knock
  507.
  508. >Scratch that, there WAS a knocking at your door
  509.
  510. >Opening the door, you find Spike, a look of worry on his face
  511. >"Anon, Twilight wants you at the castle right away. She says it's important"
  512. >You could tell that just from her having sent Spike in person instead of a letter
  513. >Without a word, you start jogging toward the castle of the Princess of Friendship, leaving Spike to try and catch up
  514.
  515. >You arrive to Twilight crying, her friends surrounding and holding on to her
  516. >"Anon, I'm so sorry. WE'RE so s-sorry" she sobs "That we didn't believe you"
  517.
  518. "Twilight, I haven't seen you girls in months. What are you talking about"
  519.
  520. >*sniff* "I finally figured out the results of that test I ran on you. Anon, you can't make any friends"
  521.
  522. >Had that been what the test was about?
  523.
  524. "How can you know for sure? I mean, I've got you girls don't I?"
  525.
  526. >The group sheepishly averts their eyes
  527. >"Anon you don't have any magic. None whatsoever. But friendship IS magic. So any magical creatures are going to be uncomfortable around you"
  528. >"The effects get worse with prolonged exposure, and much worse the closer you get. You were right Anon, we all hated touching you and just never realized it"
  529. >"The girls had some resistance to it from holding the Elements of Harmony, and as Princess of Friendship I had even more, which is why we all tried to be friends with you"
  530. >"But we messed that up pretty bad, didn't we girls? Anon said it himself, he hasn't seen any of us in months"
  531. >"This is all my fault Anon. You knew something was off from the start, and I didn't believe you"
  532. >" I should have recognized the problem right away, and instead I forced you to live a life completely devoid of friendship"
  533.
  534. "Oh"
  535. >It's all you can manage to say
  536.
  537. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  538.
  539. >"I think I have a solution. If I could turn you into a magical creature, a Pony, then you could possibly become susceptible to magic and capable of making friends with other ponies"
  540. >Something in you awakens
  541. >You think it might be hope
  542. >For so long, you've lived without. But to be a pony to have friends again? This is too much, too sudden. You just aren't sure how to feel about the situation
  543.
  544. >"But there's a risk. To permanently turn a non-magical creature into a Pony may have all kinds of unforeseen effects"
  545. >"That said, it's the only way you'll ever make friends in our world. Do you want to try it?"
  546. "Yes"
  547. >You don't bother to give yourself time to worry
  548. >You're going to be around friends soon, and that's all that matters
  549.
  550. >"Ok Anon, here goes"
  551.
  552. >There's a bright flash of light, then everything is gone
  553.
  554. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  555.
  556. >Your name it Tree Top
  557. >Ponies used to sometimes call you Anon, but that was just some old inside joke. You don't even remember where the name came from
  558.
  559. >Your cutie mark is one large tree in front of two smaller trees. It represents your special talent : Forestry
  560. >Specifically, you're the only pony that takes care of the Everfree Forest
  561. >Before you came around, everypony thought it just took care of itself, but you actually have a really hard job
  562. >For some reason, you've just always had a connection to the creatures here as far back as you can remember
  563. >The Princess says it's because you're Magic Impaired : You just don't have as much magic as other ponies, even other Earth Ponies
  564. >But you don't mind. A Lot of creatures and plants in the Everfree don't have much magic, so you don't stick out as much as a normal pony would
  565.
  566. >You don't have very many friends
  567. >You used to be friends with the Elements of Harmony
  568. >That was really fun!
  569. >But over time they all found special someponies and settled down
  570. >They don't spend much time with you anymore, they all have families to take care of
  571.
  572. >But that's ok. You've got friends in the Everfree
  573. >There's a dragon that talks to you from time to time, a group of dryads that love your company, even a large hairy creature known as a sasquatch
  574. >He was really shy at first, but over time the two of you became fast friends
  575.
  576. >That's your life, and you're happy you were given a chance to live it
